I compared the file in hex view to the specification: http://www.w3.org/Graphics/GIF/spec-gif89a.txt . The file starts with 6 bytes id tag, then 7 bytes header (indicating a color space of 128 colors).
After that, the palette follows, with 3 bytes for each color for a total of 384 bytes. The offset of the characters you noted lies within that range.
It still might be a message, though - it could even be created just using the image editor by carefully selecting the colors.

OK, I see what you're saying. And in fact, all of the three-letter decimal sequences I've pointed to, when converted to hex and treated as RGB values yield the kinds of blue-ish gray colors we see in bg.gif. I was hoping that since the color table is apparently optional , superflous color values might demonstrate intentionality.
Then again, all of the RGB hex values that would convert to readable decimal values are going to be in that grayish range, and there would be plenty of ways to encode the color table to produce similar results that wouldn't rotate to "ado" or "rue." So in other words, I'm sticking with it for now.
EDIT: Also, the color table isn't ordered in a logical way having to do with it's presentation. At least, it's not in order by luminance or popularity, so there's no reason I can see for all the "rue" rotations to be together and all the "ado" rotations to be together unless someone arranged them that way.

Trout me if I'm covering old ground with this but going back over the /curiosity page I noticed that itbeings_22.jpg now seems to be stegged. I'm sure I don't remember this being the case before

I don't know if it calls for a trout if we never actually found anything, but yeah, we've seen that before. nukedog was of the opinion that it was a false positive, but at any rate, no one's yet found a passphrase that opens it in jphide.

I don't believe they did and we were waiting for it to change since the appearance of Bryan. The non-flash version is currently unchanged.

So, given what we know so far...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Gilnor osen thfr ij licij tednot lankal beche rawet ivektol THE chrel OF A sonlal nerken. Chisheck gilnor osen tikov THE ishka OF THE eutshoo. [ONE?] tei rean enedia [MAN?] AND [MUST?] ske tolkna. IN lysheen I [MUST] nlyuk FOR iance. Chisheck shktol HAVE/HAS masuka goro rnal kn geifyl TO OUR shalan Jkl kintala gry ocktel.
A couple interesting phrases and repeated words we'd only seen once before.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
-"...ishka OF THE eutshoo..." this exact phrase appears verbatum on the Yshk Lanti page.
-"kn" appears several times in the transcribed second recording, implies at least that the transcription of that word is right.
-"tei" given context in this passage and in Yshk Lanti is probably a verb / auxilliary verb
-"lysheen" First time we've seen it, but clearly a proper noun.
-"Jkl" Same deal, probably a proper noun.

i'm thinking that ishka OF THE eutshoo = blood of the king. but that's just as guess.

*nod* As good a guess as any. Unfortunately, since there's really no internally consistant semantic relations in Lanti (at least not that we've been able to determine), it's pretty hard to ever know for sure.

The Yshkla.html page has finally updated (in the non-flash version). Either this is a mistake or it's purposeful.
I vote for the on purpose one.

Did I miss something because the Yshk La page is the only one I see this on?

It appears on Yshk Lanti as well. Pretty well confirmed now to mean "blood of the king"
