Yeah already suspected they would be in GoO. If you wanna check out some theories on everything Halo just go to the group on Bungie called The Watchers. Very interesting theories and info over there. www.halo.wikia.com also has some nifty little info on that.
As for me, I cant wait for this novel to be released! I want to know what that protector like soldier is, in front of the two spartans on the cover

Just finished the book yesterday and was somewhat dissapointed. Not sure yet what it was, but it did not have the epic feel of the previous books. Just seemed like there were too many plot holes or impossibilities that just got glossed over. I'll re-read soon and try to nail it down.

If you ask me naming them all Spartan III's doesn't make much sense. There are what, 5 different waves of them? Each of them has a different and more refined training as well as augmentation. At the very least the last group with the illegal operation should have their own classification.

Ghosts of Onyx Sorry for the spoiler tags, but I didn't want to give away anything to those who haven't read the book yet.

I think the forerunners DID use it. Read on to see my reasoning.
Onyx existed to shield the forerunners and later the Reclaimers from the destruction brought about by the the activation of the Halos. Someone would have to reclaim all of the worlds after all life was vanquished. Thus they would be reclaimers. I think that the forerunners used the Sheild and were transported to Earth.
Since we know that the core of Onyx leads to a slipspace bubble, there is nothing to say that they are still on Onyx. My theory is that the the slipspace transition took them back to Earth (underground on Earth actually), and that they are on the Ark or at least near where where the Ark is located. I believe that the forerunners took these very same steps as our beloved Spartans.
In conclusion, the forerunners were transported to Earth, where they set about reclaiming the planet. The forerunners are humans. Thus they started civilization on Earth.
The only piece missing from my theory is why or how the forerunners either lacked the technology to return to space travel or forgot about the technology all together.

I'm thinking maybe we'll see spartans in Halo 3
Maybe we'll need more to fight the brutes since apparently they are now the main enemy according to the latest Halo 3 video released today.

interesting. but how did they move stationary Slipspace bubble to Earth? unless there is a control room in the bubble? it could work. i like it!!
