If you read the book and look through the evidence packet, you should be able to find all the numbers quite easily. But in case you're worried that you've missed one, here's a checklist of the people that you can call (going from memory since my book is on loan).

Spoilered for those who don't want to know who to call just yet. Don't forget to see if you can access the voicemail system for each of the numbers as wel.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cathy
Emma
Victor
Carla
Carla @ work
Bianca
Taso
Chang Kuo Lao

YouTube video

There's an introductory video of sorts posted on YouTube.

In unrelated news, I want to make every single person I know read this book. Just sayin'.

Video? That's incredibly neat.

As long as this doesn't go along the lines of LonelyGirl, I'll be fine...

Or even if it does go along those lines...Smile

Odd... No news since the 28th?

Do we want to open up discussion now that the book's been out for a while?

Got a message from CG...

I haven't been following Cathy's Book at all, but I got an email from Covergirl today from Cathy (sort of). There isn't really much to it, just Cathy recommending her favorite CG products and suggesting going to CG's website to help me pick out cosmetics to match my coloring. Also what I assume is an excerpt of the book, a link to her cartoon on beinggirl.com, and an invite to add her on Myspace. Nothing really important, but I thought I'd post it for those who are following this.

(Incidentally, I've never actually signed up at any P&G site, so I'm not exactly sure where Covergirl got my address. But they did sign me up for their beauty newsletter, how exciting!)

I think since discussion is wide open at the doubletalkwireless forums, anything goes here. We should probably continue spoiler tags when appropriate, but let's not try to keep discussion closed.

I'll post some discussion points of my own soon...

heh sweet...

Quote:
So is it working? According to Nielsen BookScan, Cathy's Book has sold 4,000 copies. Steinberger said that number is deceiving because the title is selling in a number of major accounts not tracked by BookScan, including Wal-Mart.

Also, consider that many people probably buy it and pass it on to friends to enjoy it. With 100,000 in print, and 4000 reported sales, I'd expect many more unreported, and many more 'shared'.

Quote:
Also encouraging is the number of phone messages the fictitious Cathy has been receiving; according to Steinberger, she's gets up to 80 calls a day.

She's a popular girl by phone standards at least!

Quote:
Running Press's grassroots, viral push for the book...has taken at least one pleasantly unexpected turn. Two teenagers posted their own Cathy's Book trailer on YouTube.

...searching...
ETA: hehe, hook line and sinker

According to the fascinating Gamasutra Elan Lee interview, Cathy's Book was also on the NYT bestseller list (week of November 24, I think?). Yay!

Thanks for the props, Matt. I think I may have figured out the riddle on the front page of the Wireless site.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The riddle asks what 600K in a frame is. Cathy is an artist, and Emma seems to be involved in gallery openings, judging from her lists. $600,000 in a frame may be art. Or a painting. Unfortunately, when you enter that, a pop up tells you that that feature is not available yet.

Top notch work on that.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Most likely I would guess that the painting is one that is mentioned in the book or in one of the papers that comes in the evidence packet.
It's too bad the Wireless Doubletalk forums don't have spoiler tags...

I just finished the book, and it is in the book
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's chagall

A Kid's Review
I am just a kid who acutally HAS the book.

I have the book and I just want to say one thing. Have any of you asked any kids if they like the book? You kept saying how it's trying to get teens to buy stuff. So what. I love this book. Maybe those of you who don't have the book should go get it and stop complaining

I just bought the book from Barnes&Noble. If i could make one comment to the publishers/distributers: Please have stores stock a shrink-wrapped copy. Every copy of the book on store shelves has been opened and fondled. How do i know that my copy has every piece of the extras in the pouch? Is there an inventory somewhere?

I'll let you know what my teen thinks of it in a few weeks. She may snub it at first glance, being something like: "mom thinks I like this kind of stuff, but i can't let her know she's right about me." But left alone, I'm betting she'll like the package and the variety of the text (with stretches in instant message format instead of paragraphs, and doodles in the margins). Let's hope she's also sucked into actually reading the prose.
