 [SOLVED] mollyhaleisasammeeeee on flickr
Cathy's pictures of the coded pages from "The Day He Died"

Under the assumption that 'the book' is still part of the path to Piece#2, I am going to post this here. *

Enaxor heard from Nedd here that he was contacted by "Molly Hale" who led him to a myspace page here: http://www.myspace.com/mollyhalepics

On that page there is:

Quote:

Hi I'm Molly and I love to photograph old books http://www.flickr.com/photos/86059682@N00/ check it out!

So if you go to that Flickr page, like Jenna observed, it seems as if our friend Patricia/Cathy has come through and took pics of the other markings in The Day He Died.

The Linear B on the title page reads Gods power. The Linear B at the top of p. 11 reads messenger

I've gone through and tried to pull out all of the letters with the little marks over them. The [brackets] indicate the letters (usually z x j q v) that are printed in the margins. I don't know if these are supposed to be embedded with the others -- but the fact that they are unusual letters makes me believe that they represent cases where the needed letter was not there in the text. I've indicated a few more unusual things as well...

Anyone else is free to double-check my work!!

EDIT2: There are now more pages posted on Flickr, all the way up to page 30! I can't pull out the letters right now...

EDIT: Randomeis on chat started to transcribe the code on the inside cover:

EDIT3: I finished off the transcription. I've bolded at least one string of letters that seems to be repeated several times. There are probably more. Also, random thought that the lowercase 'g' could be some kind of marker.

*( I took the liberty of splitting off this topic from here as it will probably be a long thread. - drizjr )

Molly Hale posted more pictures, now with a string of numbers handwritten on the pages.

I'm tired so I'll just post my (poorly and probably wrong) transcription from p94 and back

Code:

Edit - the line break was added by me in order to keep the post from stretching out the page - C

Send Happy and wr2 the twins know them and mike them. if they are not available get permission from the twins before you send anyone else. these guys are nuts. to get to the trailer follow the map that wr2 taped to the bottom of his ironing board that he has mounted on the wall and painted like a surf board.

I've sent an email to Nedd letting him know.

Nedd responded a short time later to me letting him know where the map was.

Cathy has left several comments on these pages. Among them, is this; on the sixth picture posted
mollyhaleisasammeeeee says:
Quote:
One of Alan's troll Jackals came to my house last evening and retrieved the book. Alan is beside himself with "glee". I have documented the entire book with my camera and will post every page that has the coded marks on it through out today. There is quite a number of pages involved. I hope this helps us. Let's try to keep this location out of Alan's hands. He will NOT tolerate me posting any of this book for the Sammeeeees. We can also write to each other here. (for now)
Hope everyone is well.
Cathy

So, please, friends of Spoocheeeee, don't tell AJ. (Or at least, not until we get it solved.) Smile

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The page codes are Vigenere with the key word "VICE".

Using the given page 1-15 transcriptions, you get:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
MRALA NJOHN SONIS INDAN GERIN HISOW NLAND OFSPO
OCHEE EEETH EELDE RSARE AFREI SOUTO FCONT ROLMR

This reads:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Mr. Alan Johnson is in danger in his own land of Spoocheeeee. The elders are afraid he is out of control. Mr. Johnson is responsible for losing three of the five jackals who have gone on to become part of Dick White's White Rose society. The Elders say he has endangered Spoocheeee by not keeping his associates happy. There is much dissention in the ranks. The Elders fear the toll will continue to grow even higher.
Mr. Johnson's dark side is again rearing its ugly head. His appetite for killing and torture is putting all of Spoocheeeee at risk. His blind desire to retrieve Buck Jone[s]

EDIT: I think there were both Barney-errors and transcription errors and unreadable bits as well. Here is my corrected ciphertext:

I have corrected the above decoding to reflect this edited ciphertext.

Done with pages 1-15!

TADA! Thanks to Driz, Nax, and Red, we're done with the decoding! Here's the plaintext:

His blind desire to retrieve Buck Jones at any cost has also made him weak. We must find a replacement and train him immediately. The boy in Patricia Moore's care is known as the Spoocheeeee future. Patricia has begun his training and will continue to put the boy on the fast track.

Mr. Alan Johnson cannot know any of the plan. The Elders fear that Mr. Johnson would more than likely kill all of them as well as the boy. Goal of the Elders is simple: train the boy quickly; crown him as the new Spoochee leader. The present Mr. Alan Johnson will then be removed from his position permanently.

Cathy left a couple of comments here http://www.flickr.com/photos/86059682@N00/288479988/

The first; in reponse to randomeis' transcription of the cover page on the book.
Quote:
Good afternoon Vengefullobster,
Is that you Joe? It is me, Cathy (Patricia). I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to say hello to each other at the pier. Joe, I think there's a VE at the top of the page. Didn't want you to miss it.

Thank you for helping to save Kevin. (Dwin)
Cathy

And then this..
Quote:
If you guys have questions about any marks or symbols on the pages let me know by posting a comment and I'll help when I can. There are a few more pages to post but I will wait and post them tomorrow.

A few more pages to post...!?

IMHO: Mr AJ should *NOT* know that we have seen the book. He still trusts danteIL, Red & Patricia. If he found out we had seen pages, he would know that Patricia provided them (unless he was told that Peeps or Timothy Mann did that).

Even if he sends the book to danteIL, there would be no reason for us to let him know we've solved it. Unless we want to save Mr AJ's life. Do you think he would trade "The Five" for his own life????

2 quick two questions....

Where did you get the Vigenere key "Vice" from?
What was the manner of decode for the Cover/Title Page?

And great job!!! You all have more patience than I do...lol Very Happy

I got the Vigenere key of "Vice" by letter frequencies and the like.

The cover and first page are Base64 - if you try it yourself, make sure to get the "VE" at the very beginning.

Letter frequencies? Can you elaborate a bit? Is that the way you crack a vigenere when you don't have the key? I would think that somehow there would have been an indication to us re: VICE?

I did try the B64 but gave up when I decided I couldn't tell a capital I from a lowercase L....how did you manage? Trial and error, or is there some standard (I wouldn't know) that tells you what is an L and what is an I?
