correction on Jack's AIM

catherwood wrote:
I chatted with him briefly while I was at work.

My profuse apologies! I was unable until now to double-check the Buddy List on my office computer. Sure enough, I posted incorrectly. The AIM nick I was using to speak with Jack was ScratchSurface, not 'scratched', even though that is what appears to have been the clue.

(if i liked using emoticons, i would add a sad and embarrassed smiley face here.)

yes, this was me, catherwood, posting from work, sorry again.

I got an e-mail from Jack today,I wrote
Quote:
I hope that everything is OK with Anne, Jack.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do. . .

He responded,
Quote:
Oh god... John, i would have never guessed that Anne - my sweet, niece, surprisingly nice for a 15 year old - was my daughter! But, then again... i can't exactly remember the day she came from her aunt... but...

I'm sorry, i need time to think.

Jack

In black at the end of the newest post he has written:

Quote:
AIM not for the Past Tense, but the order. such as "Play", not "Played"

I agree that, according to the clue, it really should be scratched but at least the PM has tried to rectify the misunderstanding - though doesn't that mean that the character is reacting to something posted on UI?

"Oh my god. My daughter's my niece. i mean. my niece's my daughter. i mean.... AAAGGGH!

I can't believe Rector didn't tell me! No wonder i took a shining to her...

I... i have nothing to say... i'm gobsmacked..

Oh god....

Jack"

I sent off an email a day or two ago that basically said nothing. I just asked how it was possible that Jack thought his daughter was his niece. This has since been explained to Teri, but Jack did send me a brief email that explains things more ..uh... clearly

Quote:

Let me explain it like this.

Anne=My Daughter=Brainwashed into thinking she was my Niece.
Anne's Mum=My dead wife=Me brainwashed to think that she was Anne's mum but not my wife.
Me=brainwashed into believing that my daughter is my niece and my dead wife is Anne's mum but not my wife ever.

I'm confused also, to be honest Chris.

Jack

This is almost, but not quite, as bad as that line in Spaceballs. You know.
Quote:

Lone Starr: Helmet. So, at last we meet for the first time for the last time.
Dark Helmet: Before you die, there is something you should know about us, Lone Starr.
Lone Starr: What?
Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lone Starr: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing—which is what you are about to become!

Anyways, this looks good! I think i'm in on this one.

"Saying that in another way, Dark Helmet is the former roommate of Lone Starr's second cousin. He could be Lone Starr's former roommate as well, but that's unlikely." - Thank you Wikiquote!

A google search of "hallow's end" brings up thousands of responses related to a horror movie, but a search of 'jack holl +"hallow's end"' gives us 4 responses, only one about this ARG, and that is THIS THREAD! The recursive googlesearch strikes again!

TRIVIA
background on the names...

Newbie ARGonaut here... got interested in this thread and started digging into the Hollow's End ARG.

I did some background research on the names in use in case it becomes relevant.

Holl:
From http://matt.pope.users.btopenworld.com/hollin/origins.htm:

"The name Hollingbury is Saxon in origin and comprises three place-name elements. The 'bury' element is a common form of the saxon 'burh' meaning a defended place, 'Holl' is a contraction of a saxon name 'Holla' and 'ing' means 'the people of' or 'kin'. Taken together the name means something close to the defended place of Holla's people. There are other possible derivations with 'Holl' coming from the saxon 'hoel' meaning watching place or the 'Holla-ingus' elements could refer to 'people of the hollow', there being a very deep coombe falling away to the east of site."

Dr. Rector M:

There is a film director by the name of Dr. Malcom Rector... http://www.malcolmrector.com/ - probably not connected.

Hallow's End:
And of course there is a film called Hollow's End with an old flash based website associated with it: http://www.highlandmyst.com/hallowsend/ - not finding any connections.

I also emailed Jack but got no reply as of yet. Fun.

I thought of that, too. Are we supposed to be solving something? Pretty quiet in Hallow's End the last couple of days...

Well, it's a grassroots game, so our PM(s) might just have other things interfereing. Lets not proclaim it dead until it is! Smile

I sent some emails to Jack, and commented on Rector M's blog. Here's hoping for a response or two!

Ya I've been staking out scratchsurface on AIM as much as I can, but nothing yet.
Also, I'm a bit confused, is Anne/Eliza still missing? Because if she is, I find it strange that Jack seems more concerned with the fact that she is actually his daughter, than the fact she is nowhere to be found. Of course it would explain the lull, if I had a daughter who went missing I probably wouldn't be rushing to my computer to type blog entries or hang out on AIM.
