where did that email come from Phae? Can you post the headers?

I'm trying to figure out how to get headers in Novell Groupwise. Anyone with ideas please PM me.

I'm hoping this is spam, because I do NOT want my work address out there. Confused

tempting me at the office...

What I take from the headers is:
orchardintl.com
216.94.116.121
marcom productions incorporated
www.mgrp.com
(all indications of a legitimate marketing firm, in Canada)

Received: from [83.9.4.100] (helo=abxk100.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl)
(indicates a relay thru Poland?)

Subject: Six Apart Ltd
(indicates the site we should be searching for?)

Is the block print saying
TORA.OB or
TORA.08 or O8 or 0B?

That sounds really familiar for some reason.

ETA: Six Apart is the software company that makes Movable Type/Typepad.

Yeah Six Apart was really familiar to me too... and now I know why...
http://www.sixapart.com/
Anyone who blogs much has probably heard of them.

This is starting to look more spammy now... :-/ Though i don't know why Six Apart would be spamming.

I got same message in my in box at work this morning. It was sent to one of the e-mail aliases I'm on which is almost exclusively used for internal communication. Can't get the headers cause, well, I don't know how:)

interesting. Tried the variants, and Tora.OB had the best results - the most significant hits coming up being for Tora Technologies stock
I'm guessing it's not a trailhead... odd though.

That's got to be it... good find Bruce...

This must be a new kind of penny-stock spam aimed specifically at ARGers...

Here's a wiki article about Six Apart:

and their website:

http://www.sixapart.com/

EDIT: wow...nevermind. That'll teach me to wait and post until after dinner.

false alarm

I just wanted to point out that Phaedra's email's subject line was different ('real regarding aswell may') than bwochinski's, as was the sender's address -- I'll bet Boozemonkey's headers were also different. So, forget about Six Apart, that was probably one of those random subject lines pulled from bw's own email folders to trick him into thinking it was legitmate. Standard spam tactics.

Still, I can't resist a puzzle. Are the numbers in the TORA block just random?

(I would add my Tin Hat Posse sig line, if i were logged in)

Phaedra's email was also TORA.OB, but the font has spaces as half the size of captial letters. I believe the spacing is accurate now, though a couple spots look like a number is missing. So with the spacing fixed, it looks like this:
(the A's are there just so the text doesn't wrap - sorry for the stretch, can't make the font smaller)

I'm pretty sure it's spam, but just for the record I also got the TORA.OB drawn out with numbers email. I had to view the raw message in order to see what it was spelling since my client wrapped the lines on its own.

As far the numbers, I think that's just to get around spam filters. My filter report said something to the effect that the spam score was low because it had a large percentage of unique words. If all of the "words" are random letter strings, that would certainly make most of them unique.

Still, it's a pretty cool looking spam.

 weird email

I searched for this on the forums and didn't find anything, so i'm posting it here. I got an email from someone named "Margaret" with the subject "attempting contact" and all it said was "This is going to be a long day."

I thought it was a little argish, except the email address (FirstTimeForEverythingSPLATpclrmyna.it) sounds spammy.

I searched google for the email, and all I came up with was this.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061117120152AAiJK3Q

It's a little weird that one of the people got a call from "margaret".

anybody know anything?
