Tried going with "MOON" due to counting poles between "stops" in the Legend 3 video. Or what appears to be the video associated with Legend 3.

It didn't fly, but I noticed Taylor was online (still is) and rang her up in google chat:
Quote:
me: Boo!
Taylor: hola
did you see that Aunt Anna has a youtube account?!

me: I hate the sound that little box makes when it pops up!
I did.
How are you feeling?
Taylor: man - but how is she posting things like, now?????
i'm good

me: I thought it was the program she set up to run the "game" for us that did the posting.
Taylor: yeah, to lawngames for life
me: It does show it was only set up like 19 hours ago.
Taylor: but how could her program write all that stuff and set up an account??are computers that good?
me: Scripting is a wonderful thing.
Taylor: oh ok
me: That or we should hold a seance.
Taylor: ?
nooooo
I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Souzas
now they're involved, now that we found out about Ignacio and Aunt Anna...
it's strange to me

me: How so. The not knowing about the marriage?
Taylor: well, that and everything I guess
me: You think the Souzas had something to do with the Youtube postings?
Taylor: I don't know - maybe??
them and youtube came out of nowhere is all i'm saying

me: Hmmmmm.
me: I'm stuck for a reason why they'd do something like that. Maybe the Fountain is more than I was hinking it was.
+t
Taylor: oh - the fountain?
or - maybe they know something about it?
I was thinking that maybe they are AUnt Anna's REAL favorites
all along, I thought I was

(no offense)

me: Nah. Why would she entrust all this work to you, then. All the references are directed at you for the most part.
Taylor: right. whew. ok
plus, i'm sure that some student of hers helped her set up all this technology
what do you make of those youtube videos?

me: I'm no expert in such things, but the one of the mountains was apparently there BEFORE you (or the program) opened upo the new challenge that has the original flash file.

Not sure what to make of that. I think Mountain Girl took over for me at this point (thankfully) Wink
Is this where the screaming starts? Or is it just a gamejack attempt?

In the Superstitions Vidoe, the audio track is supposed to be some important part as well as the letters. Having listened very carefully to this audio track too many times Smile I have realized that it is really one set of sounds repeated exactly 3 times. the sounds - in order are:

5 foot steps
2 tweets
1 very heavy foot step (or turning sound)
3 woofs
10 footsteps
4 knocks I was told that this information is incorrect
4 squeeks (screeches from a bird)

these are repeated exactly the same 2 more times.

still have no clue what to do with this information!

Ignacio

I used to count poles too! I would do it in a mindless "loves me loves me not" sort of way. I was like such a little teenager in those days. It's a good thing that we were together before cell phones or I would have called him all the time.

Hey Souzas - I'm glad to have you around!

New Hints

Hey everyone!

I just remembered one of Aunt Anna's mnemonics that I think might help out a teen tiny bit. I still think of it sometimes (even though I never call him because he hates to be disturbed).

Actually, that makes me feel pretty good about my latest guess.

There are some additional items I got from Taylor:

-Though I still can't see it, there is , apparently a pole in the bushes just before the first house

-The part before the first stop IS to be considered.

-There are 5 characters in Ignacio's nickname.

Re-read Ignacio's page for what to do with the counts

Okay, I'm wondering if the student/TA/etc. that we keep seeing is Victor Garcia who has commented on Taylor's blog. He is at Berkeley where Anna taught.

small hint to superstitions from Taylor

2 words - 9 letters total (I am thinking we only use the 5, 1 & 10 & the equation to figure out the grid plotting - but I always hated that part of math, so someone else will have to get this one)

This is why I'm no good at puzzles. I usually can't work my way around them if they have a mistake in them. This is why strifey is my puzzle buddy. He's much better at trying to figure out what PMs meant than what they have actually produced.

This is a somewhat long and convoluted walkthrough, so I'm just copy/pasting from what I have written in the guide rather than try to explain it anew for the 3rd time.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Okay, we have 6 different sounds and 6 different variables, not including the n. So, we match each sound with one of the variables. Easiest way to do this is in order. The shoes with the X seems to confirm that all of the stepping sounds should line up with the x in the equation. If we do that, we get:

[(5,2) , (1,3) , (10,4)] *n

Okay, so now what? Remember that this set of sounds repeats 3 times. That is what the n is for. We take the equation and run it three times, each time increasing n by 1. Doing that we get:

[(5,2) , (1,3) , (10,4)] *1 = (5,2) , (1,3) , (10,4)
[(5,2) , (1,3) , (10,4)] *2 = (10,4) , (2,6) , (20,8)
[(5,2) , (1,3) , (10,4)] *3 = (15,6) , (3,9) , (30,12)

Now it's just a matter of finding the letters at those positions, and this is where we get a gibberish answer.

(5,2) , (1,3) , (10,4) = L , A , P
(10,4) , (2,6) , (20,8) = P , R , A
(15,6) , (3,9) , (30,12) = L , T , A

Using the format given to Redhatty in Hint #5, this should be La Ppralta which doesn't make a lot of sense. So, once again we're stuck. I've emailed Taylor with a walkthrough of how this result was reached, so hopefully she'll find some new coorespondence from Aunt Anna that can explain where we have gone wrong.

I sent the above information to Taylor and got back a response saying that yes, the method was correct and that as aunt anna sucks at math, the grid got goofed up. Taylor is gonna update a new excel spreadsheet that will produce the correct answer.

For everyone who doesn't want to go through all that, the correct answer should be:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
La Peralta

Well at least I know where i got stumped last night - the typo in the solve has me scratching my head. Thanks Rowan!

Edit: This is getting to where we have to impose on people in Arizona too. I have asked a friend who lives in Phoenix if they could help out, but they have real life to deal with and cannot. As much as I am enjoying the game, I am not the type of person to impose upon others for the sake of my mental recreation.

It appears in one of the latest location trials that not only should you get numbers off a fence (which I could probably get with a phone call to the boat house
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(602) 254-1520
but that you should actually rent a boat & go out to the center of the lake to find something else that will eventually help.

Sorry Garcia family & all, I'll try to help with the puzzles, but I don't see very many loyalty points coming from my direction. I can't take off to the southwest & I will NOT ask others to do it for me. /threadjack

Hey, Taylor sent me some good news (IMHO)

Quote:
hey cuz - between you and me and everyone in the family that you keep in touch with: Aunt Anna liked it when we revisited places she went to but I think that the time spent exploring was more important than the actual physical locations. I think that we're going to have an "out" pretty soon. As for all of those other tasks - riding boats, etc. - I think that she's trying to make the whole point thing become hard to keep track of. And in the process get us paying attention to the things that she's DOING at the places. please help keep our familiy spirited! I think the Souzas are going to be instrumental in unmasking the "out."

Well, we have three members from UF in the Phoenix area as listed on the Frappr! map. I've sent PMs to all three asking for help and with any luck one of them will come through for us. Also, celina said she knows someone in the area and will see if they are willing to go on a little expedition as well.

I notice we have bonus points on the last 2 Location Trials also. +5 points for each family member who answers with no limit.

As a family of one, it seems like points are pretty meaningless, now.
Even if I answer first, if I share, I lose.
