I thought the original idea for a group name was something in the vane of "Cloudmakers". From cloudmakers.org:

Quote:

On April 11, 2001, Cloudmakers was founded as a discussion group for the interative web game centered around the film A.I. We officially solved the game on July 24, 2001. Though the original game, The Beast, has ended, Cloudmakers now serves as a clearinghouse for online gaming. Members can find out about new games, find fellow players, and reminisce about and discuss The Beast.

So they were originally centered around The Beast, but evolved into something more. I kinda like that idea, that we are starting the group centered around MetaCortex, but will evolve into a general ARG-solving group. I don't think it necessarily needs to have a tie-in to Metacortex specifically.

Personally I like Ungamers because a) of where we are all congregated, Unforum at Unfiction, b) I like the sound of it, and c) I thought of it Smile

And for those who insist on having a Metacortex tie-in, the Ungamers can celebrate "Unbirthdays" with Alice in Wonderland Wink Yeah it's tenuous but I like it.

Question, since I didn't play The Beast: Does the name "Cloudmakers" have a tie-in to the game?

Never played, read the guide. Cloudmaker was a boat belonging to some character from the ARG, Evan, I think.

Not so sure we want to make it Forum-Centric. If we want to do the Tshirts and other items, would be cool for everyone to get them. If we develop a made-up team name (Fake Business) that covers everyone playing and/or following, then maybe the pm's will make in "Ingame" or refer to it. Kick it [BAM!]up a notch.[/BAM!]

But we should at least make it Game-Centric.

What I did on my lunch hour...a logo for the ARGonaut idea. Not as cool as the other logo someone did, but I'm no graphic designer, so check it out.

[EDIT] Didn't mean to post two attachments. They are both the same image.

I must say, the ARGonaut name is much more appealing when viewed as this image.

I've created a monster!

How about BlackHole? A fitting tribute to our anomalous hacker...

Or Anomaly.Net?

Metanomaly.Net?

BlackHole is my fave of this three...

Ok, so I'm a nerd. It sounds cool in a nerdy sort of way! Hee...it's probably sad that my nerdiness was just proven relative to ARG players... Mr. Green

Anyway, I like the idea of something related to Blackhole... Dunno, brain isn't working. I wonder how much of a kick the PMs are getting out of this thread.

Do we all aggree that this is merely a game? ARG makes me think that this is simply a game and I think that we cal all aggree that this is something way more elaborate than that. If the intention is to have this organization live on after this is finished, then it should be something uniquely tied in but not exclusively tied to it.

I do think that it should be something "in game" but not something that is exclusively assosciated with it. It should be open to interpretation long after Metacortex is over.

I liek that idea. How about a tag line for the logo:

We find the Missing. Or something of that nature. Find the Missing.

Unplug the missing? Not sure about that. Makes it Matrix related.

We would have to base it out of Redland, WA.

Well, I can say that I'm glad I joined this group. You all sure seem to be on top of things here. Don't worry, you won't see any newbie moves from me. No making new topics with something that's already been discovered in October. I can't offer much in the way of computers, but I do like this whole ARG idea. This is my first experience with one.

No I won't jump on the Matrix bandwagon. Although I think it's funny that most if not all people heard about this through Matrix related websites. ... W-well, with the exception of "statik" finding it on google. Oh, but I will stop, seriously. This looks like a good place to be.

How about "Pixel Chasers?" I think it is rather appropriate after all the attempts to analyze every image pixel-by-pixel...the coded message in the Oct 1 PaintOver, the "@" in the policeman image, every last frame in the Aquapolis webcam, the sky on The Nekodas, etc. Or "The Stegers" for much the same reason.

we interrupt this broadcast...

We dont want logos or sites... just simple name suggestions and then we can move on.. something that follows "cloudmakers" which magazines might then pick up and use if this game becomes famous..

It might help to clearly define a goal here. Are you trying to give a name to a subset of the people who use unfiction and the unforums? Remember that this site is used for other games and other purposes. Unfiction was around long before Metacortex began, and will continue to serve people who wish to play Acheron and other games that come along later. Heck, some people using this site don't play along with metacortechs at all!

I've seen things said in this thread, such as:
Quote:
We'd be able to call this place the Cascade...

Quote:
If the intention is to have this organization live on after this is finished,

Quote:
I kinda like that idea, that we are starting the group centered around MetaCortex, but will evolve into a general ARG-solving group.

which makes me think some people are not clear on just what the goal of all this brainstorming will be.

We call this place the unforums at unfiction. The intention is to have this site -- as well as the other sites in the ARGN network -- live on past the end of many games.

Indeed there is a core group of players focused on the Metacortechs ARG. I hope you all feel welcome to stick around and play the other games. You are *already* part of a general ARG-solving group, even if we don't have a catchy name to give to the media.

Yes, we know. Mr. Green Well, I guess I can't speak for anyone else, but most people are probably aware that this isn't a Metacortex-exclusive site. I was referring to nicknaming this Metacortex-specific part of the forum, in response to people wanting to call it Dead Cafe. Very Happy But, yeah, this does seem to be getting a bit off-track...
