Out of interest...I had loads of troubles getting a capture from a DVD this time, what do people use? I've got WMP 11 and the usual tricks with turning off overlays and hardware acceleration failed. Is there some freeware around that'll do the trick?

Use VLC. Then Video -> Snapshot, which will save your screen to My Pictures.

I mentioned it upthread somewheres, but I found that Media Player Classic will do ya right - just a ctrl-prtscrn at the spot you want, and then crop and re-size to your heart's content in gimp/pshop/etc.

Rebecca

I think its "Last night I dreamed I went to Manderly again." Or something close to that. The still of him looking down into the ocean, I don't even remember, unless that is when she saves him from jumping.

Great choice. I love that movie and the book is even better.

wikipedia: "Last night I dreamt I went down to Manderley again"

But the Amazon book reader (actual image of page one) agrees with rose (except dreamt not dreamed). So phoo on wikipedia.

edit - hey google quirk! The google results page has the quote above but someone has fixed the wikipedia entry to lose the word "down".

OK and too much fixating on a favorite old book.

Well...I'm pleased you liked that one! I wanted to go a bit older in film to mix things up a bit. Thanks for the suggestions for screen shots and, for the record, the DVD has "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" Smile

For some reason I keep thinking Primer, but I know I am probably wrong.

Nope, not Primer. I did check the list before posting, so this has not been used yet, to the best of my knowledge. Wink

wow, that is such a vague, and challenging clip... is it significant and recognizable for the movie? Or more of a random clip?

IIRC, it's a significant moment in the scene it's in, but it's been a while since I've seen this movie. I just felt like being evil. Twisted Evil

Here's something with a little more info.

truly amazing, how my brain can think a particular garbage bag seems unique and familiar...

any blurring you see in this image is probably where I had to remove the title and watermark put there by the hosting site -- i don't have the technology some of you do.
