Organization-ness With New Games

OK, here's what I think should happen with new games:

From now on, I think any game with over eight pages should be moved to the ARGs With Potential, automatically. Then, when the game gets 10 different threads in ARGWP, all with a relatively high degree of activity, it should get its own section. If it implodes, then it goes to the archive. If not, we wait 'til it finishes, and then move it to the archive. Once a game ends, a week after posting has finished, it should be archived. If the game seems to have ground to a halt, then there should be a poll or something to see if people are still playing and then, if people say no, it should be archived.

Agree? Disagree? Don't care either way?

You didn't give us the option to vote for "Don't care either way" in the poll. Wink

There is no automatic. Otherwise it would be....automatic. Wink

Uh, this is exactly the sort of thing for which the admins' discretion is suited.

Why should we have official rules for it when every game is different?

Hmm, sorry if this post made people angry, or something... I was just wondering how it's decided that an ARG has potential and when it's considered NOW PLAYING... cause I noticed a lot of news&rumors atm seems to be actual games that are being played... three or four of them, actually. And I thought that they had enough potential to be termed "with potential"... I don't know. Sorry if I've overstepped my boundaries or something...

Yikes.

I'm Eric, by the way...

I think that suggestion needs to be in flow chart form. I got lost half way.

Disagree. Your opinion is yours, but your idea fails to pass the mustard with me.

OK, here's a better explanation for defining what's got potential and what's actively playing.

If a NEWS&RUMORS thread gets over 8 pages of posts, then it's got potential.
----> Admins move it to ARGs With Potential.

If an ARG With Potential gets 10 active threads, it's NOW PLAYING
----> Admins give it its own section.

If a NOW PLAYING ARG ends successfully
----> One week of inactivity, and it gets archived.

If a NOW PLAYING ARG trails off and dies (two or three weeks of no new posts)
----> A vote is taken, and if people think the game imploded, then it gets archived.

Flow Chart Form does make things easier to understand...

But anyway, if you don't like my idea that's fine. I'm just wondering, how do you decide when an ARG has potential versus just a rumor? Cause it seems to me that, E_V_A for example, is more than a rumor. Same with Enoch of Gatewood... it seems to be a pretty established ARG at this point. I know these things have gotten big and then just ended abruptly, but, I mean, it should be given a chance...

I don't know. This isn't my site, and you guys can run things however you want. That was just my humble suggestion.

This depends greatly on how many days or weeks it took to generate those 8-10 pages of replies. A thread might linger, fall down in the sorted list, get bumped a month later, etc., or be a sudden rush of "Me too!" posts, or it could be a flaming pile of vertigo-inducing nested quotes of quotes. Size doesn't matter, it's all about the meat, baby.

ugh, why couldn't i resist that metaphor?

Also, some threads might not ever move to "Games with Potential" -- whether they are a proto-ARG or contest or whatever -- if the thread logically belongs elsewhere, such as Timewasters or Various&Sundry.

If you're suggesting an automated system, it's just too rigid for the wide range of scenarios. Plus, modifying the board software is touchy enough as it is, with a current wish list of practical functionality still waiting to be implemented. If you were suggesting policy changes, I think the current method of human intervention works best: ask an admin to move stuff, and justify it on a case-by-case basis.

I wouldn't concern yourself with the title of each section, it's more of an organisational thing than an ARG being good, or having the stamp of approval from uf.

Ah, now that's why I was getting confused... thanks. I figured it was done so that the better ARGS get their own sections, the ones that look like they might get good are called potential, and ones people think will probably die are left as rumors... but if it's nothing like that, then I guess it doesn't much matter Razz

Basically, games get moved to "potentials" when they need more than one thread for people to effectively play them.
