/me comes back from having bathrooms and a bedroom renovated causing her to be off line for a couple of months...

I've never been an in-game character as myself, but I did use my real life cell phone as an initial contact point for Orbital Colony. Note I said cell phone. I would never use my land line for this sort of thing, and I probably will not use my cell phone in future games as cell phone # start being searchable in a reverse look situation. I allowed my phone number to remain in the uF forum for it until the game was over, then asked that it be removed once the game had finished.

Yes, someone could have harassed me using that number (another reason for using my private cell phone - at least my family wouldn't have to hear any of those type of messages) plus - it is a pay-as-you-go account- if harassment was an issue, I could just let that number lapse.

My friends I will give my real life address to. But I will not let my address get published all over the place for an ARG. uF/IU/Deaddrop/et al. may respect my privacy, however, keep in mind that this is a PUBLIC place and ANYONE could be lurking, Good, Bad or Geeky. Take a lesson from celebrities, some have been the victims of stalkers, but more importantly they are hounded by the paparazzi; for someone to use their real life as an in-game character, they have to be willing to havetheir real life interrupted by the players, who might disrupt the in-game person at work, at a restaurant, at home, at school.

Pros to using a real life person as an in-game character - lots of rich background material, a blurring of the lines that will help the suspension of disbelief.

Cons - exposing said in-game character to risk (stalking, harassment, etc.), interfers with the person's ability to post and play other games at uF due to ethical obligations related to the uF TOS (TOS violations along these lines have been discussed in depth and repeatedly over on the META forum).

Personal Comments:
In Last Call Poker, Todd Bridges portrayed a character much like his real life self (well known child actor that as an adult was having difficulties). There was a clear separation of in-game persona and real life person, but the fact that we recognized the "actor" added to the enjoyment as he was willing to poke fun indirectly at himself, which created a fondness for the character, at least for me.

If I were going to use my life as "background" in an ARG, I would file off the serial numbers and give it a new name. Unfortunately my life isn't interesting enough to be used as background.
