Calling all those numbers, is there a cost?

This is probably a stupid question, but I just picked up Cathy's Book tonight and I'm anxious to gather the clues and call all the numbers, but my parents are saying that they're long-distance, and that we'll be charged... is this true, I mean why would they have people being charged to call these fictional people?... I don't know, but if anyone does, do you know apprx. how much it is to call these numbers, I so don't want to end up with an outrageous phone bill Laughing

"they" don't charge you - your phone company charges you - since your parents say they are long distance, then i am going to assume they are indeed just that. What you would get charged depends on distance, amount of time, and your phone company.

What pixie said is true - that calling on a landline or a cellphone may incure long distance charges based upon your carriers, however there is a free way in which you can call the numbers if you have a web connection.

If you go to the Double Talk Wireless website, and click on 'Check Messages', you'll be taken to a page where you can input the numbers from the book. If the number is 'valid', you'll get the same recording that you hear if you call with your regular phone, and you'll be able to input the voicemail passwords so that you can hear the messages as well. You can listen to the messages here as many time as you want for free (providing that you don't pay for the internet by the hour - then you might be limited as to how many times you can listen to them).

You don't need to call the telephone numbers to participate. If you read the interaction section of the game forum, people will post what they heard. Yep. Telephone bills, just like in real life. Think about it, how many people do you know that have their own personal 800 (toll free) number? I could understand that for a corporate site, but for an individual it comes close to breaking the "this is not a game" mantra.

Maybe you can purchase a phone card with your allowance or money from mowing lawns/babysitting or part time job, so your parents can see that you are willing to pay for the calls yourself. Most calls to characters average less than 2 minutes each.

Chippy called me when I was doing the survey at the beginning of Orbital Colony. I wish he had stayed on long enough to talk to me!]
