[META] Things are really heating up & a tip of the cap

I tell ya, I have to give some serious props to the creaters of this game.

I can't comment on the quality of this particular ARG with respect to other similar things that have taken place because I didn't even know this kind of thing existed until this one.

However, it's becoming clear the lenghths the creators are going through to make this a serious game, and they have a lot of time and money invested in this thing. Here's just some of the stuff that goes above and beyond a basic "online mystery":

Original photos and artwork

Despite the use of some stock photography and images, the PMs of the game have gone through a lot of work to bring orignal imagery to the game. Photos lke the drowning guy at the Aquapolis, several recently discovered photos of a guy we think is the missing James Avery, as well as countless other photos of unexplained phenomena, web page art, etc.

Music/Audio

They've created a slew of original music, as well as using some non-original music and/or audio files to advance the story. (I'm hooked on the song "The_Picture" by Dina Embarassed ... the more I hear it the more I like it Very Happy -- It's very enigmatic).

Phone calls

Players who gave their phone numbers were actually called with a recording of various sound bites of in-game stuff.

Interactivity - prizes

We're not sure if they'll receive them (but I'm assuming they will), but some players have won Wongmo tee-shirts or mugs for their participation in the "Wongmo Artist Search".

Real world clues / scavanger hunt stuff

There have been actual real world clues hidden across the country... One has been found already - a CD at a Chicago cafe containing photos that advance the story.

==============================

So, I'd just like to take the time to thank the game creators, in the hopes that they may reading this. You guys/gals have really put together something that's fun and interesting, and I'm not usually into this kind of thing. Yes, the fact that it is somewhat Matrix related probably helped to get the ball rolling so to speak, but all of the "extras" I mentioned above make this thing all the more interesting.

Much better than playing a "regular" PC game, IMHO.

I'm not sure what they're motivation is (fame, money, fun...) but either way the brains behind this thing deserve a round of applause, and I'm hoping there's much more to come! Cool

Yeah, right on, bakntime, it's like they designed it with something for everyone. There's an amazingly diverse amount of knowledge and creativity in it. Here on this forum too...

(wipes away a tear)...aww, you guys are the greatest...

Here's to the PMs! Hip hip...

I'm waiting for someone to show up at one of these IRL clues and get chased off by an agent!

THAT would be entertaining.

I'm waiting for someone to TURN INTO an agent! Now THAT would be entertaining. In a really scary way. On second though, maybe that would be too much excitement.

Oh...wow. I could just picture that happening. That would be absolutely hilarious. "Guys, you won't believe what just happened....!!!" Hee! However, what would the "agent" do if the person didn't run? Heh...

"Mr. (Ms.) Aaaarg Player...surpriiised to seeee meee?"

*laughing hysterically because I'm very high on coffee and sleep deprivation and mate tea at the moment*

I hope maybe now things are in a better prespective than before for everyone who's new to the world of ARG...

Remember when people were trying to figure out out who the PM's are and complained about censorship and things like that.. I hope more people understand now why we should respect the PM's.. just think about how much time and effor went into this, just for someone to come along and ruin a puzzle by brute forcing or cracking or looking for security holes in FTP sites...

You know what's really cool? When this thing is finally over, THAT's when you really get to say all that stuff and thank the PM's.. I believe this game is just starting and we have a long way to go.. But when it's over, we'll get to chat with the PM's, we can thank them, and we can finally find out what that horrible first picture at paintover means!

I didn't mean to open a can of worms here, I think my general point was for all of us to take a step back and realize how cool this is.

I just remember reading threads here and there criticizing certain aspects of the game, and I remember one post in particular literally shouting at how we were dealing with a bunch of amateur game creators.

So, all I was really trying to do was express my appreciation for what's gone on so far....

It's like watching the first movie of a trilogy, loving it, and telling the filmmakers how much you liked it. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Even though there's still 2/3 of the story left to tell, a little bit of praise can help motivate and feedback is helpful, in my opinion.

None of this comes as any surprise to us former Cloudmakers. It's my firm belief that this game is from the same crew that did the "A.I." game. All the same earmarks are there. In other words, hang on for the ride of your lives... Shocked

...wasn't the A.I. game that one with the horrible, horrible Tearoom and those ENIGMA CODES?!

Oh god.

Re: Pleasantly not surprised...

I think it is also done by the same group that gave us the AI game (AKA the beast).
You can see it in the design of the flash webpages and the use of sound.
The puzzle design is a complex as the AI game also.
I wish I had caught this at the beginning I only found out about the game a week ago.

may the trout be with you.
