five weeks after this warning, the sun set. the settlers settled in for the night. the place of the gathering waters was quiet. not a creature was stirring. not even a mouse. bedford and mary were sound asleep when a rock crashed open a window. this was the rock heard around the world. a great war raged that night. the war raged for the next five nights. bedford and mary did not survive. the tongva had nearly won back their sacred land. it seemed as if the settlers were going back to live by the sea. when the tongva saw the settlers were packing their belongings into their wagons, they felt the sadness lifting from the land. the tongva began to celebrate. they offered gifts to the many spirits that had come to guide them to this victory. and just as the tongva gathered at the code of life to give thanks, they were ambushed by the spanish military who came to the aid of the settlers. the tongva ran for their lives! it seemed there was no place safe to run! the men and women fought to keep the military from harming the children who had gathered. at that moment, quaoar appeared at the end of the road for the weary and called to the children, "follow me to the safe place!" the tongva children ran with quaoar until they reached this place. the children hid among these tall weeds. the military road by without ever noticing them. without the safe place their would be no tongva today. this is the safe place and will remain the safe place forever and ever. it is written on walls of the caves of beverly hills that the ancients left the tongva's a treasure. this treasure is hidden somewhere in the safe place. it has been told to me that if you walk 40 steps from where you are now and then 6 steps east, you will be close to the treasure. if you can find this treasure, this world will again be ours." kah-hur'-ahang smiled and then disappeared back into the safe place.
