Lars Von Trier turns latest film into interactive game

So I just read about the latest Lars Von Trier film, "The Boss Of It All," in Variety today. Apparently, he's inserted a little game into it, called "Lookey," which are basically visual red herrings he's inserted into this film, and anybody that can spot all the specific Lookeys he's inserted into the film will be awarded 30,000 DKR (a little over US$5000) and the opportunity to be cast in his next English-language feature.

I think this is exclusive to Danish moviegoers, sad to say. Yeah, first those cartoons, now this, right?

And while we're on the subject, I suppose I can't help but think about the latest Fincher film as well, "Zodiac," about the infamous Zodiac Killer. If the trailer is to believed, Fincher has played up the cryptography/puzzle elements of the case quite a bit in his movie, illustrating how the Zodiac may have been the first, best and most terrifying PM of them all.

I was just going to say the same... It can hardly be called an ARG though - it's more like an easter egg thing. Being Danish I am although going to watch the movie, and look into it more intensely.

The direct link to the web site, where you can actually test if you found the easter eggs (lookeys) in the right order in which you they are presented in the movie, is:

http://www.direktorenfordethele.dk/index_dk.html

1) Press: "Til receptionen" (to the reception)

2) Press: The second drawer in the file cabinet - it reads "konkurrence" (competition)

3) Press: "Fortsæt til konkurrencen" (continue to the competition)

This is true, granted, but there have been a few things posted on the forums that have also not been ARGs, but interactive all the same - the Halloween M&Ms horror movie portrait comes immediately to mind, as does the pre-OpAphid LG15. So I'm sure there's an interest in such a thing on these boards regardless.

All the same, I appreciate the link to the site, even though I don't speak Danish.

Sorry - I wasn't trying to argue against your post. I was just specifying that it hardly can be categorized as an ARG.

I agree with you, that non-ARG elements are also welcome on this board - the more the merrier!

This could be fun though even for the non-Danish... it's a great visual hunt

It was released (limited, film festivals) first in Denmark on Sept 21, then South Korea and Canada in October, but it apparently won't be shown in the US until May... at least according to IMDB

Lookey
Movie on Youtube

Just discovered a small film with Lars von Trier on Youtube that describes the concept. Check www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWl1HG9fMnY

Could be fun.

Lars von Trier... Isn't he the guy that did the original Kingdom Hospital (Riget, aka: The Kingdom)? Which is to say, unless it's a coincidental name, it is the guy. Meaning, if Stephen King's adaptation of that show is indicative of the quality of the original (I liked King's version, despite and/or due to the silly moments like 'where's your head at', etc), and the original is indicative of the quality of his other works, then the movie should be pretty good. I'd definitely watch it if I could find it anywhere, I don't even care about the prize (though I'd love to be the winner, if it was open to all viewers rather than just Danish), but I'd definitely keep an eye out for the 'lookeys', too.

Yes OmegaX, it is the same guy, who made Riget. In my opinion the Danish version is far better than Stephen Kings version. The comedy is in my opinion primarily based on a special Danish sense of humor, that Stephen Kings version doesn't possess.

Funny story about Riget: I once spoke with Lars von Triers partner in crime Peter Ålbæk, who told me, that when they had just started their production company (Zentropa), they badly needed a job of some sort. They where willing to do anything. So they contacted different TV stations, although they never really believed, that they would come and meet them, but the biggest TV station in Denmark (DR) agreed upon a meeting. At that time the two didn't have any material ready, so they needed to act fast. They look out the window of their small apartment based company and spotted Riget (a large hospital in Copenhagen). Lars then got the idea that they should make a horror/comedy story about Riget. And then DR bought the idea.
