weird email [random spam]
im not sure how to go about this

i always get weird emails and i check them out then delete them but this one stuck out because when i opened it, there was text in the box that changed into a picture before i could read it, and i cant figure out what it says.
i actually doubt this is an ARG but its possible, but more likely just random spam i guess. but does anyone know how to capture the text so i can see what it says?

(catherwood added a descriptive tag, so people won't keep looking here for a trailhead)

Hi, and welcome!

If you're on a PC, hit Ctrl + Prt Scrn quickly for a screenshot you can then paste into any graphic editor. If the text you're seeing is actually an image rather than plain text, anyway...

Hope that helps, or that someone else has a more sophisticated idea. Smile

I had a similar email - but I could make out one word in the picture:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Cialis.

So into the bin it went.

Ofcourse - I can't guarantee this is the same as yours.

(a) This could be the image tag property, just a description that is a placeholder until the image loads. If you ever went to a webpage with broken images, you might have seen this sort of thing. Right click on the image and select 'properties', or view the page source and look for the 'alt=' string inside the image tag.

(b) Another way to catch it is to disable image display in your email client. This is also recommended for preventing some forms of malicious software from running, and to prevent the spammer from knowing that you've actually opened their email. Some spam includes an invisible image which is there only as a tracking mechanism.

hey, its xxshunnedxx, i forgot i really had an account

but normally i just delete all the spam that gets past my filter and into my inbox but for some reason this one stuck out to me, so heres the details if anyone cares, just on the offchance that it DOES turn into something hehe

sender: Augustin Alsobrook
subject: Re: pustul = abridg

Now that i look back over it though I'm wondering if its more suspicious than im giving it credit for? the reason i didnt just delete it in the first place was because in the body it says something about $3.33 and i've been reading lately about synchronicity and the pole shifts and repeating digits and stuff so now i notice things like that. not that it matters. Razz

but if anyone wants me to forward it to them i will cuz i dont know how to otherwise show anyone what it is, heh

ahh this is really weird
i dont care if it is just spam i still wanna know whats going on >.<

i figured out how to use my print screen button thingy and i caught the top half of the text before it changed, which is a halfsecond thing..

well here, this is what the email says in its entirety once it loads:

"resisted the temptation to say ouch and stood steady so it could read"

then theres a big fat arrow pointing down that says "BEST PRICE" in it..
and the arrow is pointing to something that looks like either a pill or a bar of soap, since i cant tell what the size is relatively. its blue though. and then it says $3.33

but yeah, that picture, before its a picture, the top part that i caught says:

spear moved to indicate a spot behind me. A ruse? Who knew, who cared.
Who do you think Iron John is? In the story I mean, not the one
turned on the TV, checked that the faucets worked in the bathroom,
debarkation station. Remain seated until you are ordered to rise.

And that's all I got.. I have school in like 6 hours but this is freaking me out and I wanna know first. o.O

It's considered sort of "increasing the noise ratio". One of the values of being logged in as a registered member is that you can "edit" your own post and just add a comment to it rather than a new post answering yourself.

Also, we do have a thread for "Is this an ARG or just SPAM". Use the "search" function for "SPAM" and I think that will find it.
Yup, here is the thread.

Bottom line, I think we're all trying to tell you that this is SPAM.

Anything like this? http://phlog.net/entry/477176

I'm going with spam. Allthough, for some reason, i like how it's written. "[The] spear moved to indicate a spot behind me. A ruse? Who knew, who cared."

Oh, Ehsan, now i understand your avatar. Lol!
