U-Media trail continued
progress!

I found Alex Winterson in the memberlist. I'm glad i registered for their forums! A PM to his inbox got me an answer to the question in the riddle, and with that reply*, I had the 4 quotations necessary. The next step is described in this post, which is on the visible public forum:
http://www.feelbelieve.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17&p=89

After sending the 4 quotations to Ed, i got a reply** which sent me back to the homepage. It looks different for me now -- does it to the rest of you? The content seems to be the same -- wish i had saved a cached copy -- but there are different bolded words now, indicating yet another hidden URL.

If this final step is available to everyone, then solving the trail as individuals isn't crucial. Either way, I'll go ahead and post the rest of the trail solution in the morning.

Right now, I would like to:
a) create a spreadsheet with ALL of the employee information, gleaned from their forum profiles and posts,
b) register the IRC channel #umedia for our brainstorming and spec'ing pleasure,
c) advocate moving this thread out of Timewasters.

*(later posts in this thread have reproduced the answer.)

**(returned to add the text of what Ed replied to me when I sent him the 4 quotations, after Alex gave me the last one)

i fear for my wife, my life, my meaning?

I didn't rereply, and haven't tried to communicate with him since then.

Just one more thing

Does anyone know what that mysterious writing in the UMedia logo means?

And here we go!!! The page says:

Quote:
Dear Holly,
I don't have much time for this, or I'd hide it better. I need to know that you'll read this. I've had to break back in to get this up here - I couldn't log in to the server from outside the village. Yeah. I left the village. It's a long story that I don't have time to tell - someone has snitched me out to Maxwell and they'll be onto me soon. If it's not already too late. Jesus, Holly I hope you're safe.

They've been keeping us in the dark. Keeping us burrowed away like some sweatshop while the real business goes on out there. They were never waiting for us to perfect a synthetic trope. They've been preparing for launch for months. They are going to use our research to present their real, human tropes as synthetics. They're ready to launch now. BB's played us for fools. And now that he knows what I've seen, it won't be long before - well. I've seen where they keep them. Do you remember our first set up, Hol? The way it stung when we took samples? Imagine a room full. A hangar.

I need you to get safe. I'm coming to look for you again as soon as I finish this, maybe you're in the lab. Working late. I'll find you bent over Cecil's controls like nothing's wrong. If anyone else reads this, back everything up. Get everything off base, get it hidden and keep it safe. People need to know what they are doing.

I think I hear a car outside.

I PM'd Holly and sent her the link

Yes, it is just the Japanese way of writing out the pronunciation of "U-Media".

ASked Alex for the Umedia password

Quote:
Haffastrider,

In the light of current events, I suggest you keep your head down. I saw Ed's message in the moderation queue, I'm leaving it up for as long as possible, but it's not going to last.

For what it's worth, the employee password is "umedia" (any fool could guess it). If you can do anything right now, read up on as much as you can before Randall finds out about this and the shit hits the fan.

The data is safe for now.

I swear I had tried that yesterday. So far, not much is different in the employee lounge, but I am still reading.

[edit - email communication is good to /quote, no need to spoiler. save the /spoiler tag for puzzle solves. thanks - kona]

{quoted body of email)

So this was from Alex? (ah yes, you said that in the post subject line, but not in the post body.) How/where did you get his email address? I saw the name mentioned in a personal email to you, but didn't see the address anywhere.

(I'll also assume that one way to derive any character email address is to look at Nathan_Awesome's sig line, where he gives his address as "n.dickinson -at- feelbelieve.com". Any employee should also be accessible via firstinitial.dot.lastname.at. -- is that how you got it?)

Anyway, now it looks like I could go back and see if the puzzle trail is completely described. I had omitted the final step in one of my earlier posts...

I just did the whole a.wintersonSPLATfeelbelieve.com and hoped for luck, and it worked. Also, just PM'd him for the password.

Not much help though, there isn't that much different in the forum.

is there ANYTHING different in the forum? The password really just gives you access to the index of forums under the Employee Lounge heading, but we were already able to access all of the forums and posts under that.

Very nice work, cath. Have a Pony?!

From the three references to them, they sound like some sort of specialized testing environment rather than subjects.

They sound pretty badass, whatever they are.

Our Engineering and Security departments are working in close tandem with local police to discover the cause of the explosion. We are unable to release any more information until these investigations are completed, but our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased.
