Story So Far

Feelbelieve.com is the website for U-Media, which is developing a new media form, "Tropes".
One of U-Media's employees, Edward Emerson(entangleded) put together a rudimentary puzzle trail on the front page of the site.
The clues, which were just bolded words, spelt out a sentence. first advance to the centre.
One advanced to the centre, by changing the id name in the link window. Once there, one would find a puzzle.
catherwood solved the puzzle.
The main page updated for a link to the southern pole.

The Emersons will be deeply missed. catherwood reports that Ed and Holly Emerson died in an explosion.

After the weekend, James emailed Jetamo to say that the interview would be on Tuesday, between 7 and 8PM gmt. Here's a transcript of the interview

However, in the middle of the interview - the feelbelieve.com site was hacked.

The binary in the error decoded down to a link to a blog by a S. Hubart

viviandarkbloom then decoded the atbash cipher that was sent to haffastrider.

Then mongo decoded the atbash cipher in the error inbetween the binary.

Nothing else except the site going into Safety Audit has happened.

(that was current up to Dec.19th)
(further notes added by catherwood below)

After the "safety audit" was complete, the website and forum returned on Dec.20 -- but most of the action is occuring on various blogs and hidden directories. (Refer to the first post in this thread for links.)

Instructions for plans to break into the Village and stage a rescue are hidden at http://www.i2n.org/stuff/Image(566).txt (you need to copy-paste the URL or type directly) -- two dates have passed without action, and the next window of opportunity comes in January.

A source of oddness

Looking at the source code of the error page (attached to this post) I see a few weird tags just after Call Trace:

Code:
[<c0214d1f>] sys_hardware_hotplug
[<c026ce7d>] sys_shutdown+0x36/0x47
[<c026d429>] sys_socketcall+0x185/0x1dd
[<c02c7377>] syscall_call+0x7/0xb

and they get closed again at the end after PANIC:

Code:
PANIC</c02c7377></c026d429></c026ce7d></c0214d1f></pre>

Do these look familiar/mean anything to anyone?

So, based on the interview, hopefully, once the site is put back up, there will be a flash on the front page.

That is, IF the site gets put back up.

Also, as far as whether the book is important, perhaps we should consider popular Science Fiction books currently in the media, due to the Douglas Adams reference.

Seeking gainful employment

Maxwell was good at his word, and I've heard from Rick Mohnburg:

Rick Mohnburg wrote:
Thank you for your interest in our Research and Development department. U-Media is a cutting edge company with many exciting prospects. In R&D you will be at the forefront of developing a new entertainment medium that will soon sweep through the globe.

We are looking for creative, experienced and above all able individuals who can give bring their perspective to the table and contribute to the growth of our product.

Your credentials are certainly impressive; it seems that you would be a valuable asset to our project. As I'm sure you understand, we are based in two main areas. Our offices are in Edinburgh but most of our actual research takes place in a base we know as 'The Village'. Needless to say that work at The Village is given highest secrecy. We do not allow anybody in or out of it; it is a self-contained facility. As such you will not be working at The Village, you will be working at our smaller ground floor 'Baby R&D' facility located in the Edinburgh offices.

The Baby R&D is responsible for making sure that when tropes go live, they are safe and secure for public use. A lot of fine tuning is required and deadlines can seem daunting. However, we hope that other advantages of our employment make up for any discomfort. We even have new vending machines!

All of our applicants are required to write a few short paragraphs on a particular subject that we attach to their dossier. Please send me a minimum of 250 words on the following title:

""Given your understanding of Trope technology, estimate its impact on any of the following areas: philosophy, diplomacy, commerce or psychological treatment."

Finally I must ask an administrative matter. I appreciate that our online application form is down (I am looking into it); please send me the information listed in the form by e-mail (you can find it at www.feelbelieve.com). I will not need your cv as it has been forwarded to me already. I apologise for the inconvenience, my main concern is that all of our candidates must be independently assessed. I will also need the other details listed to prevent headaches later on.

My thanks for your interest and co-operation, I hope that this is the start of a fruitful career for you with U-Media,

Yours faithfully;

Rick Mohnburg

Truthiness

No, I didn't feel that I needed to do so. I am currently working as a research scientist (although not on technology that allows one to experience things that one has never actually done as I imagine Tropes do). I did imply that my real life skillset would be useful to their work; I'm not sure that it really would be, but hey ... they know what they are doing a lot better than I do at this point Very Happy .
