There are nine blatant misspellings and transpositions of letters in that email...I'm assuming that's the lead to the next location. (I wrote the letters as AHSCOHLN, but probably messed up on that). Tried to ROT it but that didn't bring anything recognizable. Unfortunately, gotta go AFK for a while, but thought i should put the idea out there.

I believe you might be right on the purposefull error's idea gordian.
In the interest of finding them I've copied phil's E-mail below and colour coded the error regions I've found. Tell me what I've missed afterwards.
I tried putting it in Spoiler tags incase someone does not want to see them, but because of the colouring I use that was actually worse.

Quote:

I don't know how much time I have before they come back! Yesterdaay morning the helicopter woke me up again and (I) got curious, then lucky. Or maybe unlucky, I'm not sure anymore. You see, I found the channel the internal security cams are running on the other day and have been able to shut them down wehn I write my little excape notes like this one as a part of my encryption protocol. point being that I figure if I can turn them off I can also pirate and view them right? So when I hear that heli, that's excactly what I do. I'll be damned if I didn't fiund more than I bargained for! I didn't know what to do so I posted the thing on youtube as "holiday photos" - I don't know if you can do anyting about it but I now am convinced that I"m a prisoner here too. It(')s just a matter of time before my usefullness is over and they do the same thing to me. God I hope my encryption software is working and they aren't letting me hang myself with this! Tell Alex and Foo what's goign on, they will know what to do I'm sure of it! Alex was my best friend, he won't let me sit here and rot!!! watch?v=n47iYv9qryM

Red colour in paranthesis are missing stuff added by me, blue colour indicates wrong characters.

Writing this out with all the wrongness I can find gives:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

A I EH X P U IM
or with substitutions:
A I HE S P U IM

I dunno if I've missed any, but I sure dont get the same letters as gordian (some are the same)

Time to break out the puzzle solving tools =)

A - (Yesterdaay)
I - (and XXXX got curious)
EH / HE - (shut them down wehn I)
S - (Excape)
P - (capitalization, "point being)
C - (excactly what I'll do)
U - (I'll be damned if I didn't fiund)
' - (I"m a prisoner here too)
' - (It's just a matter of time)
L - (my usefullness)
NG / GN - "Tell Alex and Foo what's goign on"

So A I EH/HE X P C U L GN/NG

I assumed ROT was a clue to try ROT-ing it, but that hasn't panned out well. I wish the spelling in general was a little better in the past, though, because now I need to question if any of these WERE honest mistakes (unless Gondviart or Sawphumdy are cities)

Sorry, I don't know how to color-code it so I just listed them out. You caught some I missed...I was in a hurry when I went through last time.

I have never heard of those cities atleast Very Happy

Maybe it's a combination of ROT and anagrams? that only give 26 x 11! (that's 26 x 11x10x9x8x7x...) possibilities (disregarding any possible self similarities).

that should be easy Shocked

At one per second, it'd take 33 years!

Well Im not good a puzzles and I never seem to figure out any code ...(I do have like 50 code breaking programs) I just suck at codes.... So I told Alex he could get saved if he sent his location to us...I told him to drink with the guys there and talk about the women close by(I was a little more graphic in my e-mail) to see if he could find out where he was... I dono If it will work... But I do know alot of guys with one sylable names they always know about women and always have beer...Phil even said in an e-mail the fridge always has beer...one of those guys knows where they are and is making beer runs. I told him how to deal with the guys too so he wouldn't get a beating... Im a redneck, I used to be a biker when I was younger. I hope he takes my advice ..If he does they will tell him anything he asks them...lol

(The first c isn't ment to be there)

This code doesn't look too obvious, not to me at first, anyway. But what the hell, I'm not too good at these code things anyway

I've been playing around a little with anagrams of the missing letters. I noticed there appears to be a missing word and another word is missing a part. I've included them in my anagram stuff. Here is the passage with my notes included:

Quote:
I don't know how much time I have before they come back! Yesterdaay (extra letter) morning the helicopter woke me up again and I (missing letter/word) got curious, then lucky. Or maybe unlucky, I'm not sure anymore. You see, I found the channel the internal security cams are running on the other day and have been able to shut them down wehn (transposed letters - include both?) I write my little excape (include s or x only or both s and x?) notes like this one as a part of my encryption protocol. The (I think this is a missing word, not a capitalization error) point being that I figure if I can turn them off I can also pirate and view them right? So when I hear that helicopter (missing part of word), thats excactly (extra letter) what I do. I'll be damned if I didn't fiund (extra letter) more than I bargained for! I didn't know what to do so I posted the thing on youtube as "holiday photos" - I don't know if you can do anything (missing letter) about it but I now am convinced that I"m (missing letter a?) a prisoner here too. Its just a matter of time before my usefullness is over and they do the same thing to me. God I hope my encryption software is working and they aren't letting me hang myself with this! Tell Alex and Foo what's goign (transposed letters, use both?) on, they will know what to do I'm sure of it! Alex was my best friend, he won't let me sit here and rot!!! watch?v=n47iYv9qryM

Now, the only reason I have done this is because we can get the words "tropic" tropical" "place" "cacti" "chile" - all words indicating a southwestern climate which is where we suspect he may be. We can also get "loch" "arc" "arctic" "route" and several more that could be used in describing a location. Not to mention we also get the word "clue." Maybe we just haven't been using ALL the letters?

Maybe you should ROT-13 it? At the end it says dont let me stand here and rot... could rot == ROT??

If we include everything in your sollution Wolf we have the following letters.

AIEHSXTHECOPTERCUHAGN

comparing to Forgery's Vignere solve this almost gives us

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ANGELOPOLIS TEXAS
The Bold Underlined letters are not present in the mentioned solution, I'll reread the Email and see if i can find them.

That Almost fits we're missing two L's and an O and there are some excess letters... These spell out:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Church

So yeah, I think we now know where he's hidden away.
Good jobs all =)

-Edit-
I found one of the missing L's. It's in "usefullness" as Notgord pointed out earlier... still need one more L and an O

The only thing that bothers me about that is...I tried to get phil to use a code when we first contacted him...He made fun of me... He thinks his encryption makes him safe.... I hope yall are right...

I can't find the last L or the O...

I contacted Alex and Foo about my "guess", they wheren't best pleased to say it mildly. They claim there's no angelopolis in texas, and want me to show them how i cameup with that. I really don't want to send them a "puzzle solve" that's missing 2 letters, so if Forgery could point out where he found the angelopolis in texas, then maybe that would help convince them.

Somehow I don't feel like just sending the attachment and the solve for it, I want that to be kept "secret" and rather find the solve in Phils E-mail alone...

Also Angelopolis seem to be another name for Los Angeles (it does basically translate to "Angel City"i guess), as well as an area in colomiba, but those seem too lose solutions to be the angelopolis we're looking for.

Yet another possibility is "Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza" Mexico as some of it's unofficial names apear to be 'Puebla de Los Angeles' and 'Angelopolis'

I'm sorry!

oh poo!! you guys are right. I was so excited with the find I didn't read the results of my search for Angelopolis. The two destinations I was given were Anglevillas, which is in Florida and Ansley Place, which is in Texas. I just saw the results and assumed they were Angelopolis.

I'm sorry everybody.

Still strange how those two places are both sides of the circle. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Your mexico linkabove is good Wang

But in this last email he says he hopes his encryption is enough. He has realized things aren't as he first thought they were. It has shaken him up.
