Hi guys, I'm new to the thread.

Playing around with the boot drawing's offset letters, one possible anagram of thousands is "ONLY SEEKS TO RULE OIL". It could be this type of clue we are supposed to find. Since the plume and beetle letter strings are longer they could feasibly contain 8 and 10 words, respectively.

Keldrena: No, you should go ahead!

LargeWu: Hmmmmm....an interesting anagram indeed! This is the kind of thinking we need. Boots + oil = many people, alas.

To the organization know as the Committee of the Sedulous Amalgamation,

I've heard of you through channels of which you're most likely aware. Throughout my life I've seen myself as an astute person, always looking for new things to learn and I admit, the missives you've sent to others intrigue me. I seek to know more regarding the Committee of the Sedulous Amalgamation. I hope you will send me some information, in whichever manner you desire.

What do you guys think? Good to go?

True, but as an architect of culture, I'd venture a guess and say Rockerfeller

New Snail Mail - Dec 22

I guess we were too slow with the last puzzle. This is the latest mail from tCotSA.

Quote:
Okay let's get started! I didn't think that last puzzle was going anywhere, so I'm going to move on to the next one.

This is a good one, and I hope ya'll enjoy it. There are five books going out right now, so once you have them get started!

In an effort to encourage lots of submissions I'm going to offer a prize for this one! I will draw a winner from submissions to this next challenge and send them a custom Sedulous Amalgamation sweatshirt! Trust me, it is pretty rad so be sure to send in your answers.

Also, the next challenge (not this one, but the following one) will take a lot of different minds, so now might be a good time to invite your
friends to join the Sedulous Amalgamation.

!neo htis ithw fnu vahe

On the opposite side of the paper is this;

Quote:
Oh, yeah, send in solutions for this challenge to the email so I can get them right away.

Ididn't scan this, because it's written in light green colored pencil and didn't show up very well.

Crud. I hope I'm not getting a book, because I'm going to be away from my apartment for the next three weeks. Sad

New package

I got a package in the mail today.

theres a 'J' on the back of the envelope.

Envelope Back
Envelop Front

Inside was a page of letters and numbers, (haven't looked at the numbers if someone thinks I'm missing something)
Code Page
Isolating the letters I got,
Quote:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
for each survey inquire:"to what city does this belong?" a collection of five volumes have been distributed. a list of five names is the solution. once every page within a tome has been placed alphabetize the new found ogdoad. repeat this for each volume, giving you five alphabetized directories. pull out the final pentad as follows: (yellow) closest to a (yellow plus red) forth [sic] closest to a (yellow plus blue) fifth closest to a (the most enchanting) third closest to a (and the remaining) second closest to a for a correct solution, submit to the Committee the name of one person who has functioned as mayor of those final five cities.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
For those of us who are color chart challenged, yellow + red = orange, yellow + blue = green

There was also a small booklet with 8 maps drawn inside,
Book Cover
Map 1
Map 2
Map 3
Map 4
Map 5
Map 6
Map 7
Map 8

There cities in alphabetical order are
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Map 2. Calgary, AB, CA
Map 5. Glace Bay, NS, CA
Map 8. Kitchener, ON, CA
Map 6. Quebec, QC, CA
Map 4. Summerside, PE, CA
Map 7. Toronto, ON, CA
Map 3. Vancouver, BC, CA
Map 1. Winnipeg, MB, CA

Not sure where I'm supposed go from here. The "closest to a" part has my head spinning, no idea what I'm supposed to do with that. I'm assuming we'll have to wait for the other four "volumes" before we can even use it though.

Edit: to fix links

seems pretty 'coincidental' that my home city of all canadian cities was one of the 8... keeping my eyes open

Who else, if anyone, in uF lives in the other cities? Assuming there's something to that...

Yellow & Blue make GREEN!

The most obvious solution is that instead of "closest to a ..." it's "closest to A," as in the letter. We did alphabetize them. That would make the other four red herrings. Not sure that it's that simple though.

Wouldn't have posted, but this forum keeps forgetting that I'm watching this topic. Haven't gotten emails in a while and decided to check in. The button up top says that I'm watching. Hmm.

There is truth in color

The first missive had "one one" written in red on the envelope.
solutions for one puzzle were requested to be written in ornage.
another communique was written in green pencil.
other examples extant

now we are asked pick 5 cities out of 40 based on color.

"the most enchanting"= red + blue = purple?
"the remaining"= white?
