[META/SPEC] Prize Speculation

Right, i've been watching for a while and thought it was about time i at least said something Smile
Firstly do we have someone available for every location yet? I know me, Ruuku and some others can make the london one.

Also came to a realization, you all probably know this anyway.

Windows Vista launch day is in 33 days

The last of the known Vanishing point events is in 31 days.

'Fewer than a thousand people have ever been there to see the ultimate vista. The grand prize winner will be one of them.'

Maybe its just being very bluntly literal.

'Fewer than a thousand people have been there to see the ultimate vista'

that is the most obvious thing ive ever heard right?

'The Grand prize winner will be one of them'

Thats a little obvious too.......

(Just posting so i'm not just sat watching all the time)

That's a pretty big speculation. We have no proof of that. Going into space is 1) expensive, and 2) requires a lot of health & other examinations to be passed.

I think I'd rather just have a new high end laptop.

Space would be cool but i highly doubt it hehe.

And about the 'Ultimate vista, ultimate view' thing, dont forget there is a version of Microsofts new operating system is called 'Vista Ultimate' which seems more of a logical prize then a trip to outer space. Like someone previously mentioned about less than a thousand people going into space, i highly doubt a thousand people own the operating system either.

Just my views Smile

Where is this line about less than 1000 people having seen vista. Is it from some part of Vanishing Point i missed, or from a vista advertisement, or what?

I guess it's not a space flight but a sub-orbital trip ... much cheaper ( 200k if you believe Virgin's estimates )

as opposed to the $20,000,000 russia is charging

My reasoned speculation ...

I'm new. Please be gentle.

I've been following the game over at Neowin, and recognize a few names here. Hello, everyone!

Here's what I've got so far, in terms of speculation.

Loki has been hired by Microsoft to give away tons of stuff to help promote Windows Vista. Some bloggers are already receiving gifts in the form of memory keys and Ferarri laptops.

Loki is going to "disappear" in at the fountains in front of the Bellagio on January 8th. That's when the game starts, the ultimate goal of which is to simply find her. The first person to do so wins the grand prize, which I believe is a trip into space, probably to the International Space Station.

So far, many of her clues, keys, and hints in the video suggest space themes and more specifically, critical theories and equations related to making space travel possible. (Most of the rest were just clues on how to decode the puzzles). The one thing that people seem to be hung up on, the chocolates, is probably just a nod to the creators of the game. There are four, and two ... 42.

The locations on the Circumambulation page refer to Windows Vista Launch Events. Prizes will probably be given away at these events, but it's highly likely that a new puzzle (I guess you guys call them trailheads?) will be unveiled (similar to how the Halo 2 trailer had one for I Love Bees).

And ... I'm spent. I think we're out of new stuff on this one until the 8th, and it's killing me. Smile

I'm not so sure about a ride up to the Space Station. The liability alone is ridiculous, but the cost, training, physical examination, etc.....

yeah, i always wondered where this spec had come from....seemed way too out there for a prize.

I warm to the spec that their name might be in a game/software/application etc though

just a guess.....

ok, don't yell at me if this is common knowledge, but, i am going to have a wild guess......

ok, so, i was reading the zenith page, and i read vista. Now, when ever i read/hear of "vista" i immediately think of windows vista. More importantly is this:

Quote:
The vanishing point is the boundary between Something and Everything; between What Is and What Can Be. Fewer than a thousand people have ever been there to see the ultimate vista. The grand prize winner will be one of them.

Familiar? Windows Vista Ultimate. After all, hast people been saying that this has something to do with Microsoft?

Now onto biography:
At then end it says:
Quote:
One of my professors didn't buy my vanishing act. He called a friend in a certain large corporation. Now I have the job of giving stuff away to the smartest people on the planet.

When the countdown hits zero, we'll find out if you're one of them.

Then what about CIRCUMAMBULATION
These are all times... countdowns, so, something will obviously happen in these cities, at those times..... but where?

Then there is that video........ A couple of places are mentioned/seen/whatever-ed, so, maybe these are the locations that somthing will happen at the time, as mentioned in CIRCUMAMBULATION?

So anyway, my grand guess is that somone will be handing out free copies of windows vista at all the places listed at CIRCUMAMBULATION, at the times specified at CIRCUMAMBULATION?

Then to further back my theory, there is biography:
At the end it says:
Quote:
One of my professors didn't buy my vanishing act. He called a friend in a certain large corporation. Now I have the job of giving stuff away to the smartest people on the planet.

When the countdown hits zero, we'll find out if you're one of them.

Note: 'He' called a friend in a large corporation, as in Microsoft.
So, The person that the bio is all about, there job is to give stuff away to people. They give free copies of Windows Vista Ultimate away to the smartest people on the planet, and, their smart because they figured out all the puzzles and such, and when the countdown hits zero, the copies will be given out, obviously to the smartest people.

Remember, its just a guess, but, if it is true, we will need to find more locations...... They might be referenced in that video, at least two have been spotted: The Japanese Hotel and that place in Las Vagas.

I have an idea, what about the refeclection in that mirror that was in the video, could that be some place, yet another location that free copies of vista will be handed out at? I dunno.......

Anyway, that is all i have to say, and i might register soon..........

Well, I have one alternate (and financially speaking, far more feasible) theory on the Grand Prize. There is one other "ultimate vista" that could pertain directly to the Windows Vista launch, and that would be a trip to see the Northern Lights ... the Aurora Borealis. Anyone who's familiar with Vista's beginnings and where things currently stand knows that Aurora was a codename for the animated Windows Vista desktop that is coming as part of the Windows Vista Ultimate Extras.

http://www.istartedsomething.com/20060906/aurora-desktop/

I don't know why it took me this long to put this together, but this is now what I'm leaning towards. Don't know if less than a thousand people have ever seen the Aurora, but I'd say this would be way easier for Microsoft to pull off.

Narrative direction speculation
speculation

I've relocated my speculation to this thread as it was unwelcome in the wrong place! I'm not only new to ARGing but new to forums and online stuff in general - so profuse apologies for such breaches in etiquette, I will learn with time (hopefully)

Circumambulation

Thought I'd look the word up myself to see how it varied from 'circumnavigation' and the first hit on Google gave me this.

http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/c/circumambulation.html

Circumambulation is the movement around a holy object, or of a holy object. The completion of a circle of protection, or of community, creates an integrity that is otherwise difficult to obtain in this world.

First thing I thought was Receda Cube! But aside from that coincidence - there could be more story attached to the choice of that particular word. Especially when I looked further down the Google search listing and found;

http://www.sacred-texts.com/mas/sof/sof23.htm

"Circumambulation" is the name given by sacred archaeologists to that religious rite in the ancient initiations which consisted in a formal procession around the altar, or other holy and consecrated object.

The prevalence of this rite among the ancients appears to have been universal, and it originally (as I shall have occasion to show) alluded to the apparent course of the sun in the firmament, which is from east to west by the way of the south.

Initiations into a secret society? Sounds like a possible event direction, also tallies with the 'chosen few that you need' comment Loki made on the phone to her employer. Could the events be recruitment drives?

And the east-west north-south thing - could that be what the circular doodle on the note book is?

All this is OBVIOUSLY just wild speculation on my part as I attempted, and failed, to look into any corrolation between the times of the events in the locations. Do the events line up in any way? will each event's progress impact upon the next - passing the baton as it were? I like the idea that people have to reassemble watches! And if it will be a race - with what shall we be racing? The sun? Is there anything ancient Roman that could be applicable?

all food for thought.

Hello, Minkette, and welcome to uF! No need to apologize for anything - I split off this thread after your spec was posted (sorry for neglecting to move it here).

Hope you have fun, and welcome here again! Smile
