I got Cathy's Book for Christmas, and read the entire thing already. It was excellent. Now, a few questions for people who've been working on this for a while. I looked around DoubleTalk Wireless but couldn't figure this out... (spoilering because I'm not too sure what, exactly, is a spoiler for those who haven't read it yet.)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Is the website for the Musee Mechanique, which Cathy told us to Google, in-game? If it is, then that opens up a WHOLE lot of other websites and phone numbers and email addresses... I tend to think maybe it is in-game, because the NEWS only goes up to the time when things were happening in the book, right? That has two email addresses and two phone numbers, and that also links to http://www.mazzera.com as a possible in-game site, which has a phone number and an email address. A lot of the pictures on the photography site look connected... (probably being stereotypical, but a lot of Asians.)

Thanks for any help... I'm completely loving this ARG-in-a-book thing. ((Everyone keeps annoying me when I say it's an Alternate Reality Game in a book... like 20 people have said, "you mean like Dungeons and Dragons?"))

Edited because I'm an idiot and forgot to spoiler the stuff I said I would.

I actually have been saving Cathy's Book ARG stuff to play with a group of people? Anyone interested in forming up a group to explore the ARG story in this book? I think it has been out long enough that maybe we could post here, either with or without spoilers so everyone can play along? What do you think?

PS. I haven't officially announced anything about ARGFest but Sean Stewart will definitely be there and will participate in part of the conference. I'm thinking that a discussion relating to some of the aspects of Cathy's Book is in order along the lines of the topic "The Future of ARGs."

Now I'm doubly sad that I can't go to ARGFest. So, yeah... Let's start talking!

I'd be up for it... I've had mine some time now and haven't read it yet. So like, what kind of reading schedule? a chapter a day or two or something?

Well, the book isn't exactly broken down into chapters... more like sections... so we'd probably have to do something like 20 pages per day. It's really not that hard... I read the entire thing in probably four hours, total, spread out over two days, so it's very possible to say, everyone, have your books read in a week, and everyone can easily do it with an hour a night.

Anyway, I think what they meant by a group to talk about the book was, everyone's had a chance to read it now, so let's start discussing the ARG elements of the book. Am I right?

You won't regret it... the only thing I'm a bit confused about is what, exactly, the ARG for this book is supposed to be doing.

The story in the book wrapped itself up very nicely, but the back cover pretty much says that after all of these events (the ones in the book) happened, something ELSE happened that made Cathy run away (again). Are we supposed to be finding Cathy? If that's the case... then, why does she still log onto myspace once every day, and leave messages on Victor's AIM page (which I still don't get how people found.)

I have a question for anyone who played LAST CALL POKER. The character of Lucky... when was he supposed to have lived? Cause there was a character in Cathy's Book called Lucky... I was just wondering if the two were supposed to be the same person.

Thanks!

He was in WWII, around 20-25 years old at the time. 1922 - 2005 according to the brochure at Graveyard Games.

Seriously? Then... then... it was most likely supposed to be the same person. Cause... this person's parents were married in the very early 1900s... they were together for a while... and the kid was born after they split up. That's cool, then. Wonder if it means anything more than just an easter egg?

No more than Google is in-game. The Musee Mechanique is a real place that you can go and visit. Besides the fact that are numerous articles that have been published before Cathy's Book, the fact that you can't use the contact numbers for the Musee on the doubletalk wireless site is another huge indication that this is a real life place that has a cameo in the book.

Lucky from LCP is not the same person as Lucky from Cathy's Book. LCP Lucky's real name was Lionel Brown and, besides the fact that he's not Chinese, none of his other bits of history match up with what we know about Lucas from the 'New Finds' section of Doubletalkwireless. However, considering that there is at least one other game character that shows up in Cathy's Book, I certainly wouldn't bet against the name Lucky being an Easter Egg for LCP.

OK, thanks Rowan. I didn't really think about the Chinese aspect of things... Razz I guess that would make a difference. But, Lucky (Cathy's Book)'s mother bet him and lost in a poker game... so I thought maybe... anyway, what was the other easter egg? I must've missed it...

Voice Mail Access Code

Okay, I know some people must have figured this one out by now, but in case anyone wants to know, I'll tell ya. When you call the number on the cover, you'll get her voicemail. After that, it'll ask if you are calling to check your voice messages and and then it'll ask for the four-digit code.

The code is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1234

Wasn't that easy? I figured it out on the first try. Very Happy

One of the other names on Victor Chan's family tree is Evan.
