Sadly it seems that this is only for US and Canadian residents, I went to GameTap to find out more, only to get blocked (I think that it checked my IP). Have fun those of you who are able to get in.

If anyone is able to find a way in that doesn't involve GameTap I would absolutely love to hear about it. Myst was my beginning point for games on the computer. (Oooh that makes me feel old!).

I've never done this - but aren't there services/sites out there that can anonymize you - perhaps giving you an acceptable-looking proxy? I searched a little in the forums and found this one: http://www.kaxy.com/ You have to pay, though.

According to various sources, Gametap is your only legal source for Uru Live, for ever and ever (and ever!).

But hey, if you're just being a cheapie and you're in an area that Gametap supplies, there's more than just Uru. The new Sam and Max is up there, as well as a ton of other adventure games if that's your flavor (including some by Cyan, creators of Myst). There's also Prince of Persia, Beyond Good and Evil, and a bunch of other cool games that pretty much make the subscription pay for itself.

EDIT: Disregard this info, I didn't do my research.

I wish I was just being a cheapie - I live in the UK.

This may be true for the United States and Canada today. Other sources led me to believe that there will be other ways to play for people outside of the Gametap service area. (Actually, i think that the closed beta was going on before the game was hosted by Gametap. Thus, international users WERE playing the game, but this access ends after beta closes and the game launches on Gametap.) Yes, Europe and Australia will be able to access Uru Live eventually. I am trying to find links to this information now...

One would think that urulive.com would be the definitive source, but their emphasis currently appears to still be for the beta participants.

Other sources say that Gametap will be rolling out to UK and international access in early 2007 http://www.gametap.com/home/jsps/pressRelease/2006/200610171.jsp

I only know what I read on various fan message boards. I'll keep an eye out, but I have no insider knowledge. (And I still recommend Until Uru for free access to the online experience while it lasts, just for exploring the static cavern world and interacting with other players. Scroll up for link and instructions.)

My bad!

Quote:
"Persons who do not live in a country where GameTap is available will be able to subscribe directly to Uru Live outside of GameTap, but players who enter this way will not receive any of the extra benefits offered by GameTap."

Also, subscriptions to Uru Live cost 10$ a month, the same as a month of Gametap subscription.

This info is all available on www.urulive.com.

Sorry for the double post, but are there any Unfiction URU testers out there, and what are your KI numbers? I'd love to hook up with some ARGers on Myst and play some online adventures with a group of people I know.

Also, may I nominate this thread for a move to the Video Game Discussion subforum?

oh sure, like anyone is going to notice it in there Wink

btw, Leftbrained and I are both in GameTap now, but of course I didn't write down our KI numbers. Tomorrow night, I'll grab those and edit this post.

Also, I had considered whether or not to create a public neighborhood for us, something like "ARGN-Unfiction" or "Unfiction-ARGN" depending on how quickly you can find it with a sort. Currently there are very few public 'hoods. The catch is that a few of us need to make it our default Bevin to keep it permanently open, not just visit it.

(edit as promised)
catherwood = 00397513
Leftbrained = 00265348
These are our KI numbers in MO:UL not the D'mala shard (if you wanted those too)
and i did not yet create a neighborhood...

Here's my info

Name: Chewy
ID: 00410807

I'm definitely up for an unfiction Neighbourhood, though I should think we should be able to collectively find a better name for it than "ARGN-Unfiction", but then again I don't suppose it matters. Smile

Looking forward to seeing you guys out in URU.

just letting you know that I did create a neighborhood* named "Unfiction-ARGN" but the game has a bug which makes it hard to keep a 'hood Public versus Private.

I haven't seen Chewy or Puck online when I'm there, but if you can rendezvous with either me or krystyn, we can get your 'hood membership switched over.

oh, and I moved this topic to the video game section. I'll still debate whether or not it will become an ARG or just an RPG.

Happy New Year! Our 'hood has fireworks and a banner now!

(edit to add a photo, and to clarify *this isn't the D'mala shard anymore, but on GameTap)

Woo woo!

(I'll go ahead and add a tag to the topic to indicate the platform this game is played on!)
