Earth Link Infiltrated, Academy Says
By GARIMA KING
The data link with Earth has been infiltrated and subverted by an unknown party, according to Academy security experts Henrik Tanner and Garnet Reed. According to Tanner, "It is clear that some communication has been happening without authorisation, and for some time. ... We fear that this communication has been going on at least since the [executive] order [NE-3309] went into effect, and possibly even quite a bit longer."
Tanner, who is the Academy's Security Director, said that they were unable to decipher the bulk of the captured communiques. One recent message was decrypted, reading only, "Phase 3 complete. Happy birthday." "We aren't sure what this means," said Tanner, "but this is by definition suspicious activity. We simply can't let this go."

Council Leader Nathan Earlywine has been briefed on the discovery, and said that he also finds the matter "very disturbing." He said that he is planning an all-day session with his predecessor, Council Member Camryn Scott, to discuss the matter, suggesting that he may be open to a change in policy on the handling of the data link and interworld relations.
Scott declined to offer comments on the matter, though she did confirm that she is scheduled for an all-day private session with Earlywine on Monday.
Reed in particular said he would use all of his considerable government connections to get the matter investigated as soon as possible. "The fact that this was able to happen right under our noses, it's just unthinkable," Reed said. He is a commander in the Perplex City Defence Forces, on top of his position on the Cube Retrieval Team and the Academy Oversight Committee. "I shudder to think about what this could mean for the Cube, and for our city."
The data link between Perplex City and Earth was locked down in October of last year by Executive Order NE-3309, spurred by Earlywine's concerns that the people of Perplex City had developed an unhealthy relationship with Earth culture.

Kiteway Implicated in PCAG Drug Fraud Investigation
By CORWIN JONES
Sources in the PCAG say that Academy Master Sente Kiteway may soon be facing charges of fraud for allegedly aiding PCAG champion Ryan Cahill in avoiding drug testing shortly before his 267 win, and possibly again last year.
The source says that information turned over by Kiteway from his personal key data to the Academy Oversight Committee late last week includes tracking information and correspondence. This previously-unavailable data 'heavily suggests' Kiteway was feeding Cahill information on when and how drug testing would take place. "Of course the committee saw what had dropped into its lap and turned this information over to be investigated by the proper authorities," said the source.

Kiteway has always had a close relationship with Cahill. Kiteway awarded the PCAG star with the Beaumont Scholarship for Excellence, and personally oversaw Cahill's academic career, even going to the unusual length of listing himself as Cahill's academic advisor. Shortly after Cahill's win of the 267 championship, Kiteway remarked, "I couldn't be prouder of Ryan if he were my own son."
Kiteway was unavailable for comment, though his assistant, Patrick Azadian, said that he is confident a vehement denial will soon be issued.
Paula Ching, the PCAG's Director of Substance Compliance, said that she could neither confirm nor deny the allegations. "You'll know if you're right when you see somebody thrown in prison, and not a moment before," she said. "Justice isn't done by rumour and fourth-hand gossip."

Futures
By Madame Bianca, for the fortnight of Jan. 5

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
I watch the ripples change their size, but never leave the stream of warm impermanence, and so the days float through my eyes, but still the days seem the same.

The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
You had a nice long break, didn't you? Time to stop enjoying yourself and all of that free time, though, because the stars mean for you to turn over a brand new leaf with the whole meeting-your-responsibilities bit. And about time.

The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
Your vapid holiday antics leave everyone around you cold, and not just from the weather, dearie. You should perk up and put some sweat in toward the common good before you're written off as a freeloader.

The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
You might be smug now, thinking you've got it all under control, but be careful how you let it show, because sweet, sweet comeuppance is headed your way, pumpkin. You'll get more sympathy

The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
Please, for the love of Gyvann, don't wear that beaded number out in public. It may make you feel like a billion lecks, but even a billion lecks can't buy you good taste. Though if you ask very nicely, there's a Baby in your life who'd be more than willing to dispense some good fashion advice.

The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
Bad luck dogs your steps in the coming weeks. It could take any form, from becoming allergic to your pet chinchoa to pernicious key malfunction. You do have one hope, though, if you empty your mind with a few days of solid meditation. I hear the Brotherhood in the Old Town put on a sensational spiritual retreat for people like you.

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
Saddle up and ride hard, cupcake. I can't put my finger on it, but something big and bad is thinking about you, and running means you'll live to fight another day. You'd be in a better place right now if you'd just hone those avoidance skills of yours.

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
As the song goes, love won't keep your lights on, so stop with the lovey-dovey stuff and start attending to more mundane affairs. And stop with the PDA, that's so Aurora Belle, and I expect better of you.

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
A thoughtless comment comes back to haunt you late next week, when you discover that no, in fact they didn't forget all about it. Time to start with the back-pedaling, love, while you still have it all.

The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
Just looking at what the stars have planned for you this month makes me yawn, I can't imagine having to live through all of that. It may feel like you're stuck in a rut now, but at least you'll get a lovely change of pace in a few weeks.

The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
That ridiculous sense of urgency may be driving you mad, but if anything, you're still dawdling too much, sweet pea. Tick tock, tick tock, better start running to beat the clock!

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
Go ahead and dream big, sunshine, but it's going to be a while before any of it reaches splendid reality. It's OK, though, you should be used to delayed gratification by now, right?
And remember, it's the journey, not the destination.

Cahill, Duncan Resume Battle for PCAG Lead
By CORWIN JONES
PCAG star Serena Duncan has retaken the lead in the championship tournament after weeks of trailing arch-rival Ryan Cahill and top competitor Alma Finnegan. Cahill now stands in second place and Finnegan in third, with most analysts predicting either Cahill or Duncan will retake the championship. It would be the third win for either player.
"I'm feeling pretty good now," Duncan said in interviews. "I feel like I've been performing below my own expectations, but last night against Klaus [Johnson], I finally hit my zone again." Pundits generally speculate that Duncan's resurgence is linked to her reconciliation with music mogul Helix Hesh. Duncan herself has disagreed, though, insisting that "when I'm in a match, nothing else even exists for me."
Cahill took his drop from the lead with equanimity. "It's a long month until the finals," he said. "Anything could happen before then." He also pointed out that statistically, only 28% of PCAG champions have held the lead at the end of the fourth knockout round.

Meanwhile, Paula Ching, director of the Substance Compliance program at the PCAG, is rumoured to be on the verge of filing charges in a drug investigation that has been running since August. PCAG chairman Robert Zhi-Hui admitted to reporters that a "very serious investigation" is in progress, but declined to offer specifics regarding the charges at stake, nor whom is likely to be targeted by them.
"We take failure to comply to our drug testing program very seriously," Zhi-Hui said, "but we also take seriously our responsibility to avoid tarnishing the reputations of innocent players. When we are confident we have a case, then we'll reveal the details to the public. Until then, we don't want to undermine the public's trust in the games in progress."

Onyx Takes Stage
As the spring lines go on sale, prepare to see more and more onyx, faux sable and patent leather. "Usually these sombre touches are too heavy for the warmer months," said Penny Howser of Mystify, "but designers now are tapping into the very serious mood of the city for inspiration right now."

Champaign Effervescent
PCAG prodigy Myra Champaign has made tremendous strides in this year's one-on-one matches, and her brilliant performance thus far in this week's multiplayer games leads some sporting enthusiasts to speculate that she may yet dethrone reigning champion Ryan Cahill.

Nipper Released
Alleged crime lord Juniper "Nipper" Onego has been released from prison, police say. According to sources working on the case, Onego was sprung based on "irregularities and improprieties" with the evidence gathered against him. Onego has issued a statement through his lawyer restating his innocence.

This comment also looks like she trying to say something, particularly as we have recently been working on Pathways...... maybe she knows something we don't.......

I'm thinking "Changes (turn and face the strain...)", journeys, and "every turn had a meaning" are all significant. I tried ROTting each layer by the number of turns (i.e. numbers in a path that follow a different number), but still get gibberish. Maybe a variation on a theme? Not sure how modding stuff fits in with that.

Anyway, off for the weekend. Good luck Smile

"Phase 3 Complete, Happy Birthday" is obviously a reference to our (non-existent) mate Cyrus Quinton...him being an Apple-Thief. I'm taking this as the strongest proof so far that V is on Earth (assuming Cyrus is V). Anyone scared?

The Kiteway/Cahill doping scandal seems to me to be contrived to get Sente out the way...I would suspect that particular path would lead to Earlywine, but that's pure slanderous speculation Wink Isn't it funny that Myra is now being championed to topple Ryan "Nandrolone" Cahill despite being Cognivia's doped up puppet poppet.

Juniper Onego has also had a suspicious change of circumstances, mirroring the change in status quo. Though he's still most wanted at the police department site.

I hate newspapers.

Onego's been released? That's a surprise, considering he was on the Most Wanted for ages

I'm not sure I follow that trail of logic, though I do admit that I haven't focussed my attention on V whenever I read the backstories. Maybe I'll get to that tomorrow.

As for being scared...well, if V is on Earth, then there are dozens of Cube Hunters (probably thousands) who qualify as a more significant threat to his motives than I. The only real danger is if I'm the first one to get close to the cube (HA!) I could easily see V lying in wait to ambush whoever gets to the Cube first.

I mean, they want to kidnap one of us, after all. The person who goes after the Cube will probably have the mentality that they're looking for in a kidnapping victim.

I think that the Happy Birthday is probably to V. It follows with his story. The wiki has some good references on V and Cyrus Quintus which I think you would find very helpful. Basically, V as the ringleader of the original Cube theft attempt is still relentlessly after the Cube. V is a killer and I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him.

I must have missed something here. Where does this idea come from?

It seems like all the Futures have hints for us. To me, it seems we must something incorrect in the letter string as we seem to be stymied on that completely.

I'm not sure where to go with it though.

I think the kidnap idea came from here

I don't think, however, that V is on Earth; it is more likely that the message came from one of the 3P operators on Earth to V in PXC, don't you think?

The opening of Changes - David Bowie:

"I still don't know what I was waiting for
And my time was running wild
A million dead-end streets
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet"

On one hand It feels like they are taunting us with this, and on the other I have to wonder if there is some hidden meaning to having picked this song.
