How do you DO all these things????!!!!! What does "stegged" mean? Is there a website or something to explain how to "decompile a flash" or determine what is or is not a "valid IP address"? And why is an "Apache HTTP server" interesting? They are everywhere! What in the world is a "traceroute IP"??? Or a "index.html" file.

I've played a couple ARGs now, or at least am playing, but I've never seen this kind of stuff. It sounds like Rocket Surgery (and yes that is intentional)!!!

In addition to what Phaedra said - here are a few answers to the questions you asked:
- to decompile a flash, you would need a program that can do it. You can google for "flash decompiler" and chose the one you like
- here, "valid IP" simply refers to the last four digits of the IP address. First, there can't be four digits (limit is three); second, they cannot be higher than 255 - so, this is what renders this IP invalid.
- I am not sure where the tracerouting bit came from (I guess it's from the video, but I don't remember it), but what it usually refers to is finding out where a certain file/stream/website/etc. resides - i.e. what IP address it's coming from, and via what route it's getting to you. Once you have the IP address, you can do all sorts of interesting things with it, such as see what kind of server it resides on, where that server is located, do reverse look-ups to see what other domain names share that IP address, etc.

Do not get frustrated if this sounds too complicated - you don't have to know this stuff if you don't want to, or if learning this doesn't appeal to you. There will always be plenty of people that can and will dig all of that up for you; and, if the information they find looks interesting to you, most of them will be happy to explain how they got it and what it means. If you do want to learn "this kind of stuff", don't be discouraged by it sounding like rocket surgery Smile I didn't know anything when I played my first game, and am still largely a moron in those areas (in fact, feel free to correct anything I said above!), but whatever I did pick up was from reading posts by people who knew what they were doing, asking them to explain things to me, and googling for stuff that I wanted to read up on a little further.

Got it! Thank you Phaedra and yanka! At least now I understand what they are trying to do and why! I am interested in learning and know it would be something I have to spend time with - I truly appreciate the "quick and dirty" explanations you gave me!

just addin' to Phaedra's post

The "index.html" page is a little unusual, since it's usually the "home" page for a site or directory. So, when you go to www.killermongolianspamhordes.com, usually what you're actually seeing is www.killermongolianspamhordes.com/index.html.

and if there is an index is hard to seen the directory structure: going to www.killermongolianspamhordes.com/special/ will show you ...special/index.html instead of the contents of the folder "special".

But most webmasters block directory browsing, so you can never get to see directly inside folders. this is the case with s7 - http://www.sectorseven.org/classified/ produces a 403 - you don't have permission.

edit: interesting number pattern in the error codes for the commands along the bottom. starting at 34:34 we go up by 55 each time
34:34
89:34
...
364:34
mmm - 55 is a very interesting number. eg. its a fibonacci number and its a semiprime - that makes it heaps cool for cryptography (in theory, 55 ain't actually good cause its too small).

don't know it means anything or helps but ....

oh, and 55 divided by 34 rounds to 1.618; which is very close to the golden ratio.

now if only these things meant something to the transformers Smile

I can add a tidbit to that, Markzpot...

Takara Holdings and Takara Bio Inc. are both registered "Pink Sheets" ticker symbols according to Yahoo finance: http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=TKBIF.PK & http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=TKHIF.PK Since I think the SEC would take a dim view to ARGs registering ticker symbols for non-existent companies, I'm betting that this particular Takara Bio Inc. has no in-game significance. ^_^

remote-terminal-5?

I find it somewhat interesting that when you load the Remote Access Client, remote-terminal-5 fails to go online.

PDF is in wrong reading order
PDF is in wrong reading order

Hiya guys,

love the stuff and thanks for everyone throwing out ideas - this is great!!!
After reading the whole thread i went back to the site to see what i'd missed.... nothing Sad so i decided to read the pdf doco and pass a summery on....

First of all, the pdf is in the wrong order. Page 2 should actualy be between page 4 and 5. move it (and with the help of thebruce - can you please also add the pdf again in the correct order possibly side by side?) and then it will make more sense.

Basically in summary.... its an agreement between S7 Industries and Takara stating that S7 wants Takara to develop a movie and pretty much buy all rights to the transformers from them. S7 goes on a big rant about how S7 must own all rights in the unviverse for anything Takara researches and develops and S7 must be at all meetings regarding the "Project".

INTERESTING - the doco, under property section, also states that Takara can't use any characters from Beast Wars, Generation 2, Transformers: The Movie (names etc.) and also informs Takara that S7 is also making a game.
So here's what's quirkey about that. Transformers the movie came out around 1986 cos the 20th aniversary dvd came out last year (2006) right? Gen 2 and Beast wars were obviously released later... especially beast wars.... but the date on the very first page is 1983. how could they know about beast wars that long ago? I'm clutching at straws and somone correct me if i'm wrong with this, but is this a bit odd?

Also, anyone know is 11-3-83, or 3-11-83(depending on where in the world u r) have any significance to transformers?

I also agree with someone else who posted that i reckon there's another password somewhere to change the "login" to the remote terminal. i've tried every number in the video on the S7 site- velocity, bearing the zebra, his user id... nothing.

just my 2 cents and something to think abuot. maybe someone will see what i've missed.

Audio Sound from trailer analysed sorta
Audio Sound from trailer analysed sorta

also forgot to add.... i downloaded the mp3 that someone posted of the "transformer" sound played in the trailer in the briefing room. Reversed it, inverted it, slowed it down filtered and boost frequencies... nothing Sad

Also ran thru the trailer again... on the briefing screen just before the sound clip if u pause it (0:36) there is a sign on the table that says "Peserved" i'm guessing spelling mistake and its meant to be "reserved" but maybe something done on purpose? I tried the number 55 theory and tried logging on as "preserved55" instead on takara83 but also no go. but the word may help somewhere else? I'm new to this ARG stuff so i'm just tried to find as much unusual info/discrepancies as i can in the hope that some may make sense of it all.

further on 55 - m55 is an object in an area close to a massive black hole - does this mean anything to the transformers??

Found some more stuff

This thing is gonna drive me insane :S

the japanese trailer wouldn't play in the thread so i found it on youtube. about 3 extra bits at the end.... nothing useful Sad and they also took some things out of it that were in the US trailer.

While googling that, i decided to google "japanese transformers trailer sectorseven.org" and found another site www.seibertron.com (dunno if i'm allowed to post url's but its for the benefit of all) that is doing/done the same sort of thing as us just they haven't progressed as far.

Few things they did notice there... the pic of the harpoon launcher at the bottom it says "project lead: R. Howard"...... Ron howard maybe?
AND
Notice how the max range for it is 55? hmmm..... what is the signifcance of 55. thats twice now.

Also, someone on another site made an excellent point. Beagle 2.... google images it and find a pic... it doesn't have wheels. Interesting? of course.... the original trailer had a probe that was moving on wheels... the army dude mentioned "beagle 2 incidet". We haven't seen any beagle 2 incident... we saw something else in that trailer... either bad research or another clue/discrepency..... i need food
