Welcome moshefromsinai

Well with Kona MIA until the event I'll play welcome wagon.

moshefromsinai (Frank is it?) Anyways the following is a very good link for info as to what the whole ARG (Alternate Reality Games) are.

http://www.unfiction.com/welcome/gs/

The quick answer is that their is no quick answer.

The funny answer is that we're all a bunch of people of various background, ages, and whatnot who just couldn't stop playing pretend and like solving puzzles.

I invite you to register for the forum, you can have neato features like post counts, an avatar, a sig, Private Messages. And it is rather painless, we don't ask for you're firstborn (we've found the second kid comes with a lot less baggage)

BTW, Whats all this about AVg's and 42? What is an AVG?

I can tell you this much. 42 Entertainment is an ARG production company. They've created on eof the most popular ARGS ever, i love bees, which was a promotion for Halo 2. They also did stuff for Gun (Last Call Poker) and created the EDOC Laundry ARG/clothing line Very Happy

Welcome to the family, hope you'll stay!

Timepieces

I don't know if anyone active on Unfiction received one of those gray envelopes with the note and USB key (sans puzzle box), but I did notice something interesting about the photo of the envelope that someone posted here: http://www.oreillynet.com/windows/blog/2007/01/microsoft_vanishing_point_game.html

There are three stamps of different styles on the envelope. To me, this seems a little odd. Typically, you'd have one metered stamp (printed by the post office) or several stamps from the same book/roll that all look the same. Additionally, the center stamp looks to have a pocketwatch or stopwatch. Since such timepieces look like they may play a role in things ("Loki" putting several in a box during the first video), I wonder if this means anything.

If anyone here at UF received such an envelope with such a stamp, can you please take a closer look at the stamp(s) and let us know if you notice anything interesting or unusual.

It appears that it's no longer speculation. Microsoft "announced" the grand prize during the keynote, but only if you were quick enough to catch it. It is indeed a trip into space.

Was it an intentional announcement? It sort of spoils the whole thing to find out that the surprise is a big version of Vista on the Bellagio fountains and a game with a prize of "a trip to space and your name on a chip." Surely there was a boob somewhere.......

possible intel tie in
this is unconformed

(de-lurk)
I was telling a friend of mine about this game and he was reminded of something he had read that Intel was working on.

Appearently Intel is redesining thier processors to be clock free. My friend tried to explain what this means to the future of computer design but my eyes started to glaze over with the tecno babble.

but, missing/removing clock.....

here's an article that I found that kind of points to this idea and it does mention Vista.

http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/cpu/core.ars/1

Is this game a team up with Microsoft and Intel?
Does anyone have any info on this?

(re-lurk)

Well, for the hardcore ARG'ers out there, it looks like the "Meta Prize" is the one to be looking for, since that will probably be closer to what you're all used to. And it's possible hints might already be out there. Looking at that clock stamp, it looks like it's set to the same time as the "broken" watch in the original video by Loki, which you can see again at the game website.

Any thoughts? Perhaps that's the time she'll be vanishing?
