Was finally able to check my mail today for the first time in about two weeks (vacation, etc.)

Received a booklet. I'll scan tonight.

Who else, if anyone, in uF lives in the other cities? Assuming there's something to that...

I live in Albuquerque, NM.

Also, sorry I haven't posted my booklet yet. Been... very... sick.

I'll do what I can tonight.

Well, sorry I didn't get to this sooner, folks... because... well... it's gotta be a clue. And since I'm in Albuquerque, I suspect it's much less than coincidental.

Ok, my envelope has an "e" on the back and the booklet says "BLUE" on the cover. The cities (in ABC order) are:

8. Deming, NM
2. Farmington, NM
1. Las Cruces, NM
3. Los Alamos, NM
6. Roswell, NM
4. Santa Fe, NM
5. Truth Or Consequences, NM
7. Tucumcari, NM

Also:
Quote:
... (yellow) closest to a (yellow plus red) forth [sic] closest to a (yellow plus blue) fifth closest to a (the most enchanting) third closest to a (and the remaining) second closest to a for a correct solution...

The state nickname of New Mexico is "The Land of Enchantment"

So far we have 4 out of 5 accounted for, Inju - what color was on the outside of your booklet & were there any letters on the envelope?

theres a 'J' on the back of the envelope.

Envelope Back
Envelop Front

Inside was a page of letters and numbers, (haven't looked at the numbers if someone thinks I'm missing something)
Code Page
Isolating the letters I got,
Quote:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
for each survey inquire:"to what city does this belong?" a collection of five volumes have been distributed. a list of five names is the solution. once every page within a tome has been placed alphabetize the new found ogdoad. repeat this for each volume, giving you five alphabetized directories. pull out the final pentad as follows: (yellow) closest to a (yellow plus red) forth [sic] closest to a (yellow plus blue) fifth closest to a (the most enchanting) third closest to a (and the remaining) second closest to a for a correct solution, submit to the Committee the name of one person who has functioned as mayor of those final five cities.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
For those of us who are color chart challenged, yellow + red = orange, yellow + blue = green

There was also a small booklet with 8 maps drawn inside,
Book Cover
Map 1
Map 2
Map 3
Map 4
Map 5
Map 6
Map 7
Map 8

There cities in alphabetical order are
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Map 2. Calgary, AB, CA
Map 5. Glace Bay, NS, CA
Map 8. Kitchener, ON, CA
Map 6. Quebec, QC, CA
Map 4. Summerside, PE, CA
Map 7. Toronto, ON, CA
Map 3. Vancouver, BC, CA
Map 1. Winnipeg, MB, CA

Not sure where I'm supposed go from here. The "closest to a" part has my head spinning, no idea what I'm supposed to do with that. I'm assuming we'll have to wait for the other four "volumes" before we can even use it though.

new to this thread
looks as though we need to identify one city from each of the eight in each volume and then submit a list of five names of mayors from these cities.

The most obvious solution is that instead of "closest to a ..." it's "closest to A," as in the letter. We did alphabetize them. That would make the other four red herrings. Not sure that it's that simple though.

I agree with negativeview that "closest to a" means literally the letter 'A'. So, assuming 'red' is our "and the remaining" since it doesnt seem to fit either 'yellow' or 'orange' our list looks like this...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
yellow (1st closest to 'A')
red (2nd closest to 'A') Glace Bay, NS, CA / Dave Wilson
blue (3rd closest to 'A') Las Cruces, NM / William Michael Mattiace
orange (4th closest to 'A')
green (5th closest to 'A') Riverside, CA (Ron Loveridge)

And, pending the color of Inju's book, that will either be
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
yellow, Albuquerque, NM / Martin Chavez
or orange, Duluth, MN / Herb Bergson

Thanks for looking up and organizing the mayors jamierobert.
Great find on "the most enchanting" Lovek

[SPEC] on envelope letters
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
They may spell "enjoy"

Edited to add more spoilers

Oh, on photobucket! It's blocked here at work.

All I saw was "I got a letter!" and no message. It was confusing. I'll look when I get home!

Not your fault work seems to block some sites at random, but not others.

Photobucket ... NO!
Flickr... OK!
YouTube... Never!
Revver... Sure!

Anyway, now I've read the letter.... Apparently it is not wise to p*ss of the Sedulous Amalgamation!

It seems too easy but the picture might mean. . .
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Grapes
Oregon
Lemon
Dice

Sponge
Icicle
Triangle
Sheep

No idea what I'm supposed to do with the +, -, x, and division signs. Confused
But, I assume we're waiting for yellow.

Although, it doesn't seem to really help us much.

Also, I pulled the other picture puzzles out of the thread (numbered in the order we received them) if anyone wants to take a look, but I couldnt see anything overly coherent in them.

Please trout me if I've missed this suggestion in the thread, but I don't think I've seen it in my couple of days of lurking this eccentric postal ARG.

As far as the little drawings go, I'm not sure what you're supposed to derive from them exactly, but the mathematical operands suggest to me that they're to read in the normal operand processing order - multiply, divide, add, subtract.

Also my reading of the last picture posted would be that the leftmost item in the second drawing is a cookie, not a sponge. Not sure where that gets you, though.

BZZT. Disregard last post, I'm obviously not on the same wavelength as the Committee.

Solve for the message in those two drawings is GOLD CITY.

Grapes
Oregon
Lemon
Die

Cookie
Icicle
Triangle
Yak

(So the order to read these things is X + / - , for some reason.)

Now, the next question is what to do with that.
