Good idea. I was thinking it was a way to make sure people are either a) adults or b) kids with permission. Also, the token payment is likely to insure the signupees (I love making up words) will actually stay around for the whole thing.

Woo! I received a letter in the mail today from Jay, the Assistant to the Mayor of Township Heights.
Scan of the letter (see any secret messages?)
I also received a resident username and password for their site.
Two of the highlights of the members' area are http://townsource.townshipheights.org/ where there's a chat applet and Ms. Kravits's township blog.
EDIT: ooo! a puzzle...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Take the first word of each sentence and you get....
I need help. Look deep at the Thmain. Contact me if you find anything.

How did they get your address? From the credit card stuff or did you include it when you signed up?
I'm just wondering if I should look for a letter because I didn't give them my home address. If they get it from PayPal then I should get a letter as well.

I don't remember if I gave my address when I signed up or not... I probably did. I know that they did get my real name from my paypal account because they used my maiden name (which I haven't gotten around to changing on my paypal account yet).

I sent an email to Jay (with secret message included)...

Jay,
I received your welcome letter today in the mail - thank you! Understand that I don't get much mail these days, so yours was a pleasant surprise. I am excited about being one of the newest Township Heights citizens. Will there be any news added to the site about Township Days - it sounds like great fun! Help is still needed for planning... what can I do?
Michelle
and got an auto response...

I am currently processing new Township Heights residents. I will be returning to the office in the next few days.
If this is an emergency, please contact the Mayor Office using the emergency contact number given to you at your Township Heights orientation.
Thank you,
Jay Blankenburg

the first words spell out "what is going on in township". And using "rridge" as a login at the T-mail page brings us his last entry ...
(not quite sure if spoiler-tags are appropriate - I'll remove if not)
[edit - added the actual entry for reference - kona]

You can access http://townsource.townshipheights.org directly - no need for a user name, you just need to know the url.

I don't know if this is considered spoiler or not, but I'll use it just in case;
[edit - took the spoiler tags off; spoilers are for solved puzzles (in case some want to solve the puzzles themselves); found information is "info" and no reason to spoiler since we all need to share it - kona]
I entered the other names from the posts in T-mail but they all returned errors "the account you are accessing does not exist."

There was a "secret" message attached. Not too difficult to decode, just enough to give me a headache trying to read it

Hmm, is this asking us to hack into someone elses account?
And, just for archival purposes (cause websites can change in ARG), here are the posting from the News page in TownSource.

Looks like the Bill Brazel Band is going to launch the new tour at the Establishment Lounge. I saw these guys play a few months ago. They are pretty good. Some of their lyrics are a little weird, but they put on a a great show. Tickets go on sale later next month.

Insider Reports has an article about a new computer operating system called ProCved - Atoo. The new OS will be virtually self serving in the capacity of trouble shooting and even correcting software and hardware problems. User will be guaranteed 100% operational status without any downtime. Beta test groups have already started using the system in a few select cities. A source close to the developer said, "So far feedback has been overwhelming, the testers are really enjoying the new OS and a worry free system".

New release date set for Galactic Enterprise III. After grossing over 236 million dollars with episodes I and II, Vintage Production Company has announced that GE III will be released early next summer. Many fans of the GE series are ready for the next installment as they are all awaiting the fate of Zan Fantu, who was drawn to the shady side of the Galactic Government in the last episode. New images and photos of the production are to be released next month on the GE web site.

Hey galactic geek. No one cares about numero III. The first one sucked, the second one sucked even more and now the third one will blow! Take your galactic geek-dom out of this board because no one is interested. As for Zan Fantu, the king of all that is all dorkafide in this world, I hear he dies. Ha Ha!

Latest events revolve around the new Net-Guard SystemŽ created by the Developmentis Corporation. Seems the new system tracks users and their net habits to further the marketing ploys of Big Brother Commercialism. TS followers are currently working on custom hacks that will reroute the Net-Guards attempt of recording and storing the data from net users. Is this legal...? According to the World Wide Net Organization, "any program that is used to protect ones own interest at the client level is perfectly legal".
Although, those in opposition of Net-Guard would leave you to believe it is not legal, users will have to decide for themselves.
