Low Key
[SPEC]

Loki in the Puzzle box 1 video saids:

"I don't like talking about myself... I don't like being NOTICED!"

I've sent emails to l.kitsuneSPLATamd.com with LOW KEY as subject, and copied l.kitsuneSPLATamd.com as a BCC, and have I've sent several email to this address and they still have not bounced. which leads me to believe that there is an auto-respond function waiting for the correct keyword.

I think there might be something to the LOW KEY path. Afterall this is a PR campaign. I been thinking about the nature of the game. Yes, MS is releasing VISTA, but why would they create such an elaborate game, if not to hint around at new features, being packaged in VISTA. A curious find was in a Neowin forum with several anagrams of vanishing point. One was "VISTA PHONING IN." in the advent of VOIP growth trend. Maybe a new VOIP voice reg user interface. MS has been flaunting total connectivity peripheral devices at CES, and other News spots. Maybe Loki/lowkey is the disappearance of the keyboard and mouse.

One more thing. I remember seeing a primetime interview with Gates, just about the time that is house was finished. If I remember correctly, the name of his home voice recognition system was LOKI.

Just a few thoughts, figure I would throw them out to the wolves to digest.

Also, sent email to lowkeySPLATmicrosoft.com which bounced.

Okay this is exactly the kind of speculation that one throws out there in between puzzles simply because we are looking for something new to grasp onto, but I wondered about the little cluster of compound nouns in the middle of Loki's latest video:

dry wall
white wash
base boards
billboards
swim meets
book swaps
name plates

It was the "book swaps" and "swim meets" that really got my attention. Those seem like pretty random/strange examples (although plausible enough for a college bulletin board). I also wondered whether 'name plates' goes with 'collectionplate' somehow (again, I'm stretching here).

In any event, if Loki had four majors and graduated in two years, there is no way-no how that she took chemistry too (the lab alone wouldn't have fit into her schedule), so how could she have had a chemistry professor?

That's because she stole the story. It was a group of MIT students that did this, and it's a rather (in)famous hack (read: prank). She's changed a few details (and is kind of vague about others), but it's very clear what she's alluding to.

Now the question is, why would she claim a story as her own when it would so obviously be recognized by "the smartest people on the planet" unless we were meant to know that she stole it. What if that's not the only thing she's stolen?

What if that's actually the entire point to the Meta Game ... either catch her before she steals something, or to find her before she completes her getaway.

We don't delete except in extremely rare circumstances not present here. We will move them sometimes. Are you talking about your post on the previous page of this thread? Or another post that might have been moved to a more relevant thread?

I think guest posts may not be searchable, so I can't find your other posts, but there's definitely one there on page 7 of this thread.

Actually, the band has already been identified, and will be playing a concert at the Seattle event. I'm not sure if your post added any additional information, but this is pretty widely known at this point.

loki@mit.edu

Using the info SuperRob gleaned from the video, on a whim I e-mailed lokiSPLATmit.edu, lkitsuneSPLATmit.edu, and kitsuneSPLATmit.edu. Used those three because I figured they were the most likely choices for a student. I also thought, even if she graduated a year or two ago, her e-mail was still likely around (I graduated almost a year ago and my student account still works).

Very quickly I got a "non-delivery" bounce back from lkitsune and kitsune.

But not from lokiSPLATmit.edu...

I'll update if I do eventually get a bounce back.

Oh, and "Hi y'all!"

Before everyone starts sending off random e-mails ...

We knew that Microsoft and AMD were safe to e-mail or contact because they were known to be in-game. Is MIT? We don't know, they may or may not be. But the fact that she's not mentioning the school by name could be a hint that we're not supposed to actually contact them. Maybe it's just "flavor" (details added to enrich the experience, but otherwise meaningless), or maybe it's a different sort of clue.

That said, I think it's unlikely that MIT would have opened up their e-mail servers to the kind of abuse a game like this might put on them.

re: SuperRob

While I agree it was a longshot to send an e-mail to an MIT address and expect a response, I'd like to point out that I did it on a whim...I was expecting to recieve a "non-deliverable" bounce back on all three addresses (and still fully expect one to come from lokiSPLATmit.edu), and the fact that it didn't come screaming back just struck me as interesting enough to finally force me to register and post.

Maybe some some fellow geek in boston w/ a love of Marvel super-villains will open the e-mail, say WTF?, and then delete it w/o a response. Or it could bounce back in two days like one I sent out last week...

I was just trying to show some initiative, ya know? Wink

Blech, that isn't a hack, that is a "prank". Wink

We don't know WHEN she was in college. So we have no idea how long ago she was at any university. Interesting thinking, though.

There must be more to the Week 2 trail than just Collection Plate.

Sp Post...

So post already...no ones gonna heckle you if you have all the answers...you'd just better be able to provide evidence and a coherent explanation.

I'd love to know how this ends and where we're going...plus I'm irritated this week's Meta content seems so thin...I want to know what it is we're missing.

MIT links

I don't know if this train of thought is IG or OOG but the whole Meta-puzzle is blurring that line to hell anyway...

The following was noted on the Neowin VPG board.

This was re: follwoing up with the vanishingpoint.com website (remember that?). Anyway, according to the neowinian's research led him to this:

http://www.media.mit.edu/people/bio_dpreed.html

It is a link to one David Reed, an adjunct professor at MIT who specializes in Viral communications in the MIT Media Lab (the lab's various consortiums are sponsored by AMD and Microsoft, as well as a bevy of others from the Nasdaq).

Probably of no practical use whatsoever, but interesting. I never really thought of ARG's as glorified seven degrees of seperation games, but maybe there is something to this...
