[UPDATE]Perplex City Sentinel 16 Jan 2007 - Kiteway Arrested
Quote:
Kiteway Arrested at PCAG Victor's Ball
By CORWIN JONES
Academy Master Sente Kiteway was arrested during the Victor's Ball late last night, witnesses say. Speculation on the scene ran rampant, with many believing that Kiteway was being arrested for playing some part in the theft of the Receda Cube three years ago, or for war crimes related to the Lancewood revelations last fall. However, police have insisted the true charges are significantly more mundane -- assisting former two-time PCAG champion Ryan Cahill in breaking the tournament's cognitive enhancer ban. Cahill was also arrested at the event.
Kiteway's two daughters, Violet and Scarlett Kiteway, were both present at the ball, and police say Violet came within a hair's breadth of being arrested herself for obstruction of justice before being restrained from interfering with police by others. Violet refused to give a comment to press, but an emotional Scarlett told reporters, "This is all my fault, isn't it? Everything is my fault."
Also in tears was newly-crowned PCAG champion Myra Champaign, whose win was being celebrated at the ball. PCAG officials tried to calm her and revive the festivities, but reports from partygoers say that a significant number of attendees left after the arrest, and the ball had a "very subdued" feeling for the rest of the night. "It was a relief when the thing was over," said last year's PCAG champion, Serena Duncan.

Sente Kiteway, in police custody, chose not to issue any statements to the press.
The arrest comes as little surprise to news-watchers. Last week, a leak from within the PCAG's Substance Compliance division indicated that Kiteway's personal key files held incriminating information. Those personal files had been turned over to the Academy Oversight Committee as part of the comprehensive investigation into Kiteway's administration of the educational institution. Committee member and Academy Senior Fellow Inari Ekeba said that the committee had "no choice" but to turn over the evidence. "It was the only ethical move to make, despite the deep loyalty many of us hold for Master Kiteway," she said.
Kiteway and Cahill have had a close relationship going back several years.. Kiteway awarded the PCAG star with the Beaumont Scholarship for Excellence, and personally oversaw Cahill's academic career, even going to the unusual length of listing himself as Cahill's academic advisor. Shortly after Cahill's now-contested win of the 267 championship, Kiteway remarked, "I couldn't be prouder of Ryan if he were my own son."

Hmmmmm........... When I was saying that I thought something would happen at the Ball, I didn't have that in mind. But as it says, shouldn't really be a surprise. I think I was pondering about whether the Cube would magically find it's way back. Oh well.

Good point about the police thing.
My brain has been mulling this over during lunch, and there are things niggling me now. It's all a bit too soap opera - big arrest during major event (usually a diversion while something else important happens elsewhere. Maybe murder, robbery, speedy getaway for someone, something not overly great anyway). Although I guess it could just be a "doesn't matter who you are or what you do, we'll catch up with you eventually" type show.
Not to mention quotes and stuff that look suspiciously like a "missing offspring returns to cause havoc" storyline looming. Maybe I need to stop watching Neighbours and Eastenders, but these events at the Ball look like classic soap opera to me.

I bet MC had it planned all along. To arrest Kiteway at the Ball. They had it scripted. It's all part of the master plan.
Oh - that isn't what you meant...
Sorry - back to the game

thought about it again, if Sente is CT, well, then we'll surly know this time! (how?) well, glad you asked, me! If we don't get any updates(LoB), then S=CT, 100%, (well, 99.9%) unless it's all like when MJ finds spiderman's costume in Peter's closet, and then the robotic spiderman shows up and thanks PP for doing his laundry. just sayin'!

If Sente is CT why would he steal the cube, bury it and then head up an investigation to find it and risk losing his job ?
If he is, then why did he want it removed in the first place?
If he did it, why didn't he just go and dig it up and then have acclaim from the poeple of PXC?
I don't buy it - but I'm usually wrong lol

And now for the spiel I always give when something like this comes up:
I think Sente knew the 3P would try and steal the cube to use for their own nefarious purposes. So he took it, or got someone else to, and stashed it somewhere where it would be safe and undetectable. I also think the cube is needed for whatever was going on at Viendenbourg, so it would need to be found at some point. Plus, not like PXC would let the cube theft go.
So, the whole cube hunt thing was probably cooked up to throw people off the scent, interfere with the 3P's attempts to get the cube back, and get extra manpower to actually get the cube back.
Or something like that.
I imagine that if this is true, Sente's motive would either be:
1) Taking it upon himself to keep the cube out of evil's hands and be willing to sacrifice his way of life for it
2) Keeping the cube away from the 3P so it can be used for the secret Viendenbourg project, and getting Earth and all sorts of other people to do the dirty work of getting it back.
And now I'll go back to figuring out if it was Sente on the grassy knoll...

I have returned! Well, well, well...
And what happened at the academy ball a few years ago? The Cube was stolen!
They really should stop holding these things...

Oh, it was definitely Sente in the Ballroom with the Candlestick. The incident in the Top Secret Lab with the Revolver was completely unrelated
