two routes to 57, one route to 59

57:

1. Key Square - Cheverly - Magine Corner - Grand Frederik's - Feyman Point
2. key Square - Milamont - Domus Plaza - Ascendancy - Auger Park - Polygon north - Shrodinger's Junction

59:

1. Key Square - Milamont - Domus Plaza - Polygon North - Auger Park - Amandier

(Just to show I wasnt kidding about the brute force)

You know what I think this project might need? A good old PXC fashioned wrench. I was re-re-reading the rules of engagement when it comes to server bouncing, and I found this.

Quote:
A complication is that messages can loop between servers in any fashion, possibly visiting servers more than once. However, as with normal routing, once a message reaches the destination server, it stops (i.e. it would not have bounced away from the destination server).

So, that's why I was wondering, how do we know which server to NOT bounce the message though so it does not continue to bounce?

About bouncebacks, I assume the messages would be able to bounce back except at the end of the string, because once the message reached its destination it would stop. So Key Square to Cheverly to Key Square to Milamont would work, but Key Square to Cheverly to Magine to Cheverly would not.

My working file, plus last thoughts

Apparently, Im a more stupid ass than I realize. I now realize I dont know how to post my working excel file here. Smile). Can someone just message how to do it? So I can pass this along. :p

My file has all possible combinations of the message travel times from key square, that are mostly under 60ms.

The only debatable assumption (yes, I admit) is that I have assumed that the message cannot "bounce back" (i.e. Key Square - Cheverly - Magine Corner - Cheverly).

The results are:
1) No SINGLE destination server fits all five sample time lengths. At most, we can only fit two sample time lengths to ONE destination.

2) If the most we can do is two sample lengths, then there are TWO possibilities:
a) End at Ascendancy
Message 46ms (K.Square - Milamont - Domus - Polygon - Auger - Ascendancy)
Message 48ms (K.Square - G.Frederik's - Cheverly - Varenne - Ascendancy)
b) End at Azad Park
Message 46ms (K.Square - Cheverly - Varenne - Lyttleton - Azad Park)
Message 60ms (K.Square - Milamont - Domus - Ascendancy - Varenne - Lyttleton - Azad Park)

I realize I may have made mistakes in either writing down the combinations in the excel file (did it brute force. Sad( ), or in my assumption about not able to "bounce back."

Can someone make a program to compute all permutations, assuming we allow "bouncing back", and check if we can fit all 5 (or more than 2) of the sample time lengths?

finally figured out how

D'Oh.

I wasn't registered yet, that's why i couldn't post an attachment.
Here's my brute force file.

To those who will continue the work with the "bounce back" options... goodluck. Me going to sleep now. Shocked

Perplexorum guys seem to have found a more complete answer.

Quote:

46: Key->Milamont->Domus->Polygon North->Auger->Ascendancy
48: Key->Grand Frederik's->Cheverly->Varenne->Ascendancy
57: Key->Milamont->Key->Milamont->Second Archway->Milamont->Domus->Ascendancy
59: Key->Milamont->Second Arch->Milamont->Second Arch->Milamont->Domus->Ascendancy
60: Key->Milamont->Domus->Polygon North->Auger->Polygon North->Auger->Ascendancy

With a (probable) list of all possibilities here

Regardless, I think Ascendancy is almost certainly the correct answer...

final solve
yes, it's Ascendancy Point

Yes. Considering the possibility of "bounce backs"

Ascendancy Point it is.
I've just came up with the same combinations for all 5 sample times. Perplexorum people beat me to it. Laughing

Someone tell Kurt it's Ascendancy Point, plus the location of the infected servers.

P.S. that was a quick 3 hour puzzle. haha.

Appologies for having to leave in the middle, I had a screaming toddler to deal with. Evil or Very Mad

It was fun though.
I hope they find scarlett soon.

Additional routes to Ascendancy

I agree that it's Ascendancy although think that there are 8 routes. The 5 from Estel, above, and these additional 3...

57: Key->Milamont->Second Archway->Milamont->Key->Milamont->Domus->Ascendancy
59: Key->Cheverly->Key->Cheverly->Varenne->Ascendancy
60: Key->Milamont->Key->Milamont->Domus->Polygon North->Auger->Ascendancy

...could someone check?

For the record, my solve was:

Thanks ixalon - after a couple of hours of crunching, it's nice to have someone agree with the results.

For completeness I think that your ascendancy-auger link is a millisecond out. Although it makes no difference to the end result.

Thanks again.

brainmash

I've only had a quick look at this. I assumed that messages could bounce back, but I haven't given any weight to the "most possible stages to avoid detection". I've given up after only exploring the first three next steps after cheverley, i.e. less than a third of all the possibles. That's given me a way of getting to Grand Fred by all but 48ms, and above you've said that's not possible (I can't spot a way myself). However if I did continue I might find Magine could be reached in all 5 times (3 of them so far). I think the computer solution will be the more secure as it's easy to lose track, or at least it is for me at this time of night.

EDIT So glad it was sorted overnight. I also wondered if it was a clue and scanned the London Underground map. It would have been nice if it led to a little station in Epping Forest. The most promising starting point was Finchley Road or Finchely Road and Frognal on the overground. FR leads to Baker Street, but that's it. FR&R is near Belsize or Brondersbury Park but nothing else, unless you want to have underground line or link, but then you can guess anything. I'd partly been drawn there by the repeated mentions of Camden in Helen's log. Anyone like to meet at "The Camden Drop Club"? - I did check.

No such thing as a coincidence
key square

In response to AtionSong and Dark human's train of thought, I also think that it seems too strange to be a coincidence, at this point in the game, for two such important parts of the story to deal with Key Square without them relating in some way. Any ideas how they could connect?

The text about submission of the solution to Kurt's e-mail has disappeared from the Operation Bayonet website. I assume that means that they have received the solution and have decided to act upon it.

Good work all around.

Can't wait to see what happens on the 30th.
