Beth is back in Washington, but is camping.

Maybe we should pick someone to talk to her that way we can get some straight answers in a hurry

She met with her friend at the lake, and they had a talk about human perceptions and feelings...he was very curious, it seems. And now she wants to go make lunch, but just went online for a sec to check her e-mail...

She is actually quite chatty. She says that she is camping near Mt. Rainier in Washington and the weather is horrible. According to weather.com, she's actually quite right.

She says that she and her friend are communicating verbally now (voice) and they are trying to work out a problem "elsewhere."

I will post the log when I am finished.

I was talking to her a minute ago but her reply speed has dropped.

Quote:

insomniac uf (20:01:58): Beth are you around?
bethlmcconnell (20:02:43): I am, but I was just getting ready to leave
bethlmcconnell (20:02:54): to try and get warm, eat some lunch, and run a few tests.
insomniac uf (20:03:06): Do you have time to answer a few questions?
bethlmcconnell (20:03:06): watch my log and I'll be back later this afternoon.
bethlmcconnell (20:03:15): i can try to answer a few, sure.
insomniac uf (20:03:57): Do you know anyone called: Stone Jeffreys, Ryan Emerson or Todd Rogan?
bethlmcconnell (20:04:34): Stone Jeffreys sounds familiar. The others don't. Ryan maybe.
bethlmcconnell (20:04:43): But know them, no.
insomniac uf (20:04:57): Where are you now? Redland?
insomniac uf (20:08:09): What's it like?
bethlmcconnell (20:08:43): I'm a ways outside of Redland camping.
bethlmcconnell (20:08:50): and it's cold and miserable outside.
bethlmcconnell (20:09:02): I'm going to go get warm by the fire. I'll be back this afternoon.
insomniac uf (20:09:11): I have test ideas for your friend
insomniac uf (20:14:22): Are you near Mt. Rainier?
insomniac uf (20:19:24): Another thing, why have you been online for 23hrs 8 mins?
insomniac uf (20:23:56): Beth are you still there?
bethlmcconnell (20:39:36): I'm near mt. rainier, yes.
insomniac uf (20:39:54): Have you heard from your friend?
bethlmcconnell (20:39:55): but I'm leaving now to get some lunch.
bethlmcconnell (20:39:57): i'll be back
bethlmcconnell (20:40:02): yes, he's here.
bethlmcconnell (20:40:10): I'll be back this afternoon.
insomniac uf (20:40:21): Can you describe his appearence quickly?

SemioclastJJB: hello, beth?
bethlmcconnell: Hello.
SemioclastJJB: Are you the Beth McConnell from little-boxes?
SemioclastJJB: Man, I am getting swamped with IMs. I hope that you are doing a bit better
bethlmcconnell: I am that beth.
bethlmcconnell: and I'm doing better.
SemioclastJJB: great. I am happy to hear that.
SemioclastJJB: so how are things where you are? Where are you again?
bethlmcconnell: I'm in Washington State
bethlmcconnell: And the weather is not the best and I'm camping.
bethlmcconnell: It's quite crummy actually.
SemioclastJJB: Good! Camping? There must be some great wireless service out there. What is the weather like?
SemioclastJJB: where is WA are you?
SemioclastJJB: sorry, where IN WA are you?
bethlmcconnell: It's cold and miserable
SemioclastJJB: blah. I'm in *REDACTED*, so I can sympathize
bethlmcconnell: Just below freezing and it's wanting to snow
bethlmcconnell: Do you know where Mt Rainier is? I'm not far from the nat'l park there
SemioclastJJB: Ick...the weather report for WA looks terrible
bethlmcconnell: yes. it's miserable.
bethlmcconnell: but it's wonderful to be here.
SemioclastJJB: so are you going to attempt the summit?
bethlmcconnell: but i'm freezing and needing to get to the fire soon.
SemioclastJJB: what is going on at Rainier?
bethlmcconnell: oh no. i'm here with a "friend".
bethlmcconnell: hoping to determine more about him.
SemioclastJJB: A little retreat to improve your "communication" skills?
bethlmcconnell: Actually his communication system is working properly.
SemioclastJJB: are you communicating by voice?
bethlmcconnell: He seems to believe that there is a problem elsewhere, so we are trying to determine his purpose.
bethlmcconnell: yes, by voice.
SemioclastJJB: excellent
SemioclastJJB: wha kind of problem?
bethlmcconnell: he doesn't seem to know. so we are trying to narrow that down.
bethlmcconnell: do you have any ideas on how I could do that?
SemioclastJJB: hmmm. Maybe I could help. Do you have any specific info?
SemioclastJJB: And, as I said, I am near *REDACTED*. Is there anything that I can investigate locally?
bethlmcconnell: have you seen my log? that's all the information that I have so far.
SemioclastJJB: I have seen it. It really peaked my interest.
SemioclastJJB: is the problem somehow related to these paranormal events?
SemioclastJJB: what effect could his funtionality have on the world? do you think that he is safe?
SemioclastJJB: hmmm. Are you there? I am talking to someone named "Katgirl" in another window. Do you know who that could be?
bethlmcconnell: Kat? She's not near a computer today.
bethlmcconnell: At least I don't believe that she is.
SemioclastJJB: that's strange. Do you know why she wouldn't be near a computer?
bethlmcconnell: It's a rather common nick though.
bethlmcconnell: She's on a business trip.
SemioclastJJB: where?
bethlmcconnell: Europe. Greece and a couple other places I believe.
SemioclastJJB: Sounds like fun
bethlmcconnell: I forget where all she was headed
SemioclastJJB: does she know about your friend?
SemioclastJJB: are you still there?

Yeah, I think she went to have lunch/get warm. Very Happy She hasn't answered in quite a while. Here's my transcript:

OmniEmp: Hello.
bethlmcconnell: hi.
OmniEmp: how's everything going?
bethlmcconnell: It's going well, considering.
bethlmcconnell: It's so overwhelming.
OmniEmp: Heh, yeah, I can only imagine...still at the campsite?
bethlmcconnell: Yes, I actually just returned from a long walk down by the lake
bethlmcconnell: I'm going to make lunch in a few minutes. Just wanted to check my email quickly.
OmniEmp: Oh, ok. Smile I guess your friend hasn't come back?
bethlmcconnell: No, he did!
bethlmcconnell: He met us at the lake.
OmniEmp: oh! Great. Did you talk about anything interesting?
bethlmcconnell: We had a long talk on human perception which was frustrating. I'm much more interested in his perception.
bethlmcconnell: Have you seen the log that I've posted on my site?
OmniEmp: Yep, I've been reading through it
OmniEmp: What did he have to say about human perception? Maybe his ideas could give some clues about his purpose...
bethlmcconnell: He was curious about how I saw things, felt things.
bethlmcconnell: All very difficult to express.
[snip me babbling]
OmniEmp: ...Have you tried any new tests?
bethlmcconnell: I've just tried to see about his ability to effect the future.
OmniEmp: Cool, what happened?
bethlmcconnell: it worked. he caused a change 10 minutes in the future.
OmniEmp: Whoa...what kind of change?
bethlmcconnell: it was a test of the wind again.
bethlmcconnell: I figured that it would be best to test it with something that had happened in the past.
bethlmcconnell: That way I knew that it was something that he was capable of.
bethlmcconnell: I'm going to go to the fire and get warm, eat some lunch.
bethlmcconnell: I'll be back this afternoon and post any results to my log.
OmniEmp: Ok, great. I'll be looking forward to it.
OmniEmp: Enjoy your lunch.

So, the dude's back, he can effect the future, and Beth's log will have all the data on that in a little while. Very Happy

Cleaned this up a little to include only "relevant" stuff:

Quote:

me: Hey, Beth... I'm still trying to grasp all that went on last night Shocked ... Anyway, have you tried having your friend affect your sense of sight/touch? Because I'm thinking that perhaps you never even really travelled around the world... I mean, your computer stayed connected to the internet, maybe your freind "lied" about your location, and you really just stayed in Washington, but he made you *think* you were travelling the world...

bethlmcconnell: I was thinking about that last night.
bethlmcconnell: but it was more than just the sights.
bethlmcconnell: there were sounds an differences in temperature.
bethlmcconnell: he would have had control over all my senses. is that possible? something that i should probably find out.

me: Hmmm... Perhaps you should see if he can affect those things in a test? Have him change the smells in the air, the temp, etc, one at a time at your location...

bethlmcconnell: yes, that would be a good thing to do.
bethlmcconnell: I was curious about time this morning because of the travel.

me: Either way, it's clear he's capable of some things we would have thought "impossible", even with technology... especially if he can modify time (like the wind thing you mentioned in your log) I find it interesting that he is questioning your perceptions... It would seem that he's fascinated in finding more about human perception. It would suggest that he does not perceive things the way people do. And clearly, if he can actually change the way you percieve things, he must "see" things much differently than you...

bethlmcconnell: yes, I think that he does.
bethlmcconnell: I'm very curious as to how he percieves things.

me: Has he told you anything about his perceptions?

bethlmcconnell: no, he hasn't really
bethlmcconnell: everytime that I ask, he turns it around.
bethlmcconnell: I'm going to run now. I've got to get warm.
bethlmcconnell: I'll be back later this afternoon, I'm sure.

Screw the game.. I think Beth likes me...

I want a date!

Quote:
Session Start (AIM - MonkiBrand:bethlmcconnell): Sun Nov 16 14:12:34 2003
MonkiBrand: hey there Beth, how are you this fine afternoon?
bethlmcconnell: Hi. I'm good. How are you?
bethlmcconnell: actually, I lied. I'm cold and hungry.
MonkiBrand: i'm rather well... at work though
bethlmcconnell: work? that's no fun!
MonkiBrand: yeah...
MonkiBrand: why are you cold? is your A/C up too much?
bethlmcconnell: I'm going to go grab a bite to eat. Get some work done and I'll be back this afternoon and we can chat.
MonkiBrand: ha! but i try to keep myself occupied at work by talking to people
bethlmcconnell: I'm camping outside and apparently it's close to winter.
MonkiBrand: aparently? i thought it was november? heh...
MonkiBrand: you are still in washington, right? i would assume it is pretty cold
MonkiBrand: i do have a quick question or three for you, whenever you get the chance
bethlmcconnell: I'm still in washington yes.
bethlmcconnell: toss me the questions. I'll see if I can answer before i freeze to death Smile
MonkiBrand: eek! alright, quick question #1
MonkiBrand: what does it take to get myself an account in your research area on your site?
MonkiBrand: I'm really interested in some of the stuff you've documented... and maybe even share a little
bethlmcconnell: I closed it off because of some malicious activity. I'll probably open it back up soon.
bethlmcconnell: there's so much I want to share.
MonkiBrand: no kidding
MonkiBrand: i wish i could get away from work and go on a "trip" with you and your friend
MonkiBrand: albeit, the weather is pretty nice here right now
bethlmcconnell: well rub it in why don't you.
MonkiBrand: Smile
MonkiBrand: i'm just saying, if you ever make it down to Texas, we'd love to have you
MonkiBrand: have you thought of any new ideas to test out what your friends "abilities" are meant for?
bethlmcconnell: texas, eh.
bethlmcconnell: the place where everything is larger than life.
MonkiBrand: everything is bigger here
bethlmcconnell: I'm very curious as to the time issue
bethlmcconnell: and what his limits are.
MonkiBrand: like freezing time and speeding it up?
bethlmcconnell: yes, exactly.
MonkiBrand: i heard something about a building being erected in a matter of minutes/seconds?
MonkiBrand: you think perhaps that was time sped up?
MonkiBrand: (you know, an ability to speed up time would be incredibly valueable to me right now... work is booooring!)
MonkiBrand: i'll assume you are off grabbing a bite to eat, i hope you packed something good!
bethlmcconnell: I'm just getting there. trying to wrap up everything here
bethlmcconnell: I'll be back later though.
MonkiBrand: okay
MonkiBrand: have something delicious
MonkiBrand: (i forgot that you are two hours back.... thought it was odd you were eating lunch at 2:30
MonkiBrand: but then again, so much odd stuff has been happening lately... Smile lunch at 2:30 is nothing!!

Things ARE bigger in Texas...

Anyways.. I asked about Little-Boxes... sounds like it might open up "public" again soon....

Anyways... I get dibs on the first date!

I dunno, as much as I enjoy talking to her, (i'm having a hard time keeping myself convinced she's not a real person which is why it's so easy for me not to bring up anything I shouldn't know... mostly because I don't know that much besides everything she's given us about this or in her emails, which gives me benefit I think), I'm starting to get a little annoyed.

I am wondering if there is any point to us talking to her at all. It looks like suggestions really go nowhere, the points are already plotted and she's just slowly going there and taking us for the ride, while we're just wasting breath trying to "figure out" the AI man for no reason. Beh, oh well, might as well have fun with it.

Quote:
Session Start (AIM - Amiantos:Beth): Sun Nov 16 12:03:33 2003
Brad: Hey Beth, hows your day so far? Don't have much to add, just wanted to see how you're doing.
Beth: I'm doing good
Beth: But I'm cold and hungry
Brad: Do anything else with your friend? Any memory tricks yet, or no time for that?
Beth: I've been thinking about all that you mentioned last night. You gave me a lot of things to think about.
Beth: I've just tested the time. I'm going to run a few more tests after lunch and I'll be back after that. Do you have any suggestions?
Brad: You should see if he can create you a pizza or a bowl of sphagetti or something.... you'd have to eat it pretty quick before it disappeared, though Wink
Beth: no memory tricks yet. I think I'll do that later or maybe tomorrow. I want to narrow in on the the how/why bit
Beth: as well as the time.
Brad: Not right now... Just woke up, brain is pretty frozen...
Beth: heh. and would it leave me feeling like i've eaten or would it be like chinese food?
Brad: haha, that would depend on whether it would disappear even after it's inside your stomach.... i didn't even think of that... haha
Brad: Has he said the short period of time is from his limitations? He keeps talking about perception, maybe there is a chance it's your perception of the way he works that is causing the effects to leave so soon... It's a bit of a stretch, but you should see if he can do something that you can keep into being by just thinking that it should be that way, and not just as a temporary effect. Just an odd thought that came to me.
Brad: Gonna go get something to eat myself, bbl. Take care!
Beth: I don't think he understands the short time period
Beth: though he doesn't seem too troubled by it.
Beth: I'll be back in a couple hours.
Brad: Alright, have a good one!

She already made a pass at me by complimenting how thoughtful and intelligent I am! It's too late for you!

(That means if you have big muscles, I'm screwed).

There's no way she's a bot. She often says different things. The reason why she says similar things to people asking the same questions? Easy.

Have 40 people ask you the same question. Now, _you_ try and answer every single one of them with a different response. Beyond that, be a little nervous you're gonna screw up and give away too much info to players of the game you're running.

No way. You write an answer that works, and you give the same response when the question comes up again. Heck, if I have five people on ICQ ask me how I'm doing, I frickin' copy and paste the first answer I write down to the other four people.

Cut her some slack, it's daunting having your screen filled with message boxes. From what I remember in trying to login to AIM on two different lab computers, once you log into the second computer, the first AIM that I logged into cuts me off. I think you can only have one person named bethlmcconnell on AIM at a time. That's a real person slogging through those messages boxes, folks.

It could be Mr. MsStockPhoto, you know. It could be a team of them working in shifts. Don't be a sucker for a nice ascii.
