In terms of Characters they all center on Derek. Matt Wheeler is Derek's roommate at NYU and Sun-Yi is one of his good friends. Amie Adams is an old friend of Derek and is going to get into contact with him during the last few days. Jon Paine is Amie best friend.

Thanks for that, very cool. One small fix though: Amie is Derek's ex-girlfriend (currently his suspect in stealing the monster figures) and Jon Paine is her boyfriend.

EDIT: Random observation, in the video he posted at http://www.rainbowofdeath.com/whativelearned/index.php?uid=a9e83a721be1 The bus passes vehicles coming at it on the left. As far as I know, Thailand doesn't use British driving standards, so is the image flipped?

I don't know if they really do or not, but John Wheeler mentions driving on the left in his 3rd journal entry. So he seems to think they do, at least. Or maybe they did in the 60s, but not anymore?

Okay, an idea about the puzzles being sent. A logical progression may be: The letter square is a clue for the empty spaces; the circled letters of a completed answer will spell out something when put in order; yes?

So! The numbers in the wordsquares are probably stand ins for certain letters that need figuring out; more importantly common letters. As noted, the one puzzle seemed to have "ountains" but no first letter. So the number 6 is probably the letter needed. I happened to go with M. I did this also for 1 (a) and 4 (o).

Doing so started to yield words that seemed related to each other. Thus far I've gotten the attached picture. (the 1's, 4's, and 6's have been filled with the letters I believe them to represent).

The puzzle in the bottom left corner has the most "clues" and I would like to note that the empty spaces below it have just enough spaces to accomodate "lochnessmonster" which also relates to the "clues."

I believe that each of the answers is probably going to be a cryptid and will be related to the clues in the puzzles. Perhaps the top right one is "bigfoot"? And since theres already a circle with a 9 beneath it, the final answer has at least 9 letters and thus means that 9 packages have been sent? Which is all well and good...I just hope that everyone who gets the packages posts their puzzles or game over before it begins.

EDIT: Top right puzzle. Does indeed suggest "bigfoot"

I dunno, that seems a little random. If the words were all horizontal/vertical/diagonal that would make more sense then curving around .
In the top right one there's "old time" BTW.

One thing that worries me about the top-right being "bigfoot", there aren't any F's in the square (unless that's a number-replacement). Of course, another alternative for that top right might be "Dracula" since I think that one came with the Dracula doll? Hmm... there aren't any D's either.

Do you have any ideas how we might go from puzzle-square to fill-in-the-blanks even if we can identify letters to replace each number with (unless you've already explained that and I didn't follow)?

I have a semi possibility.

There are words and phrases between some of the numbers. I can't figure out what the pattern is though.
Example (bear with me here):
Top Left puzzle
2d row, 2d column is the number 2. Diagonally up and to the right is the letter B.
3d row 7th column is the number 3. Immediately left of the 3 is the letter E.
Starting with the B and ending with the E you can spell out BY LAKE.

1st row, 6th column is the number 5. Directly below is the letter T.
2d row, 8th column is the number 6. Directly above is the letter N
Starting with the T and ending with the N you can spell out TOWN.

We've already noted OUNTAINS in the 9th col. The O is to the right of the 6.
There is an F in the second row by the 2 from the first example.
There is also an M in the 6th row, 4th col. which is by both a 1 and a 4.

That same 4, 7th row 5th col., has two Cs by it. From either of those Cs we can trace COOPER ending at the 7 in the 5th row, 1st col.
Starting with the 5 in the 8th row 2d col. we can trace the letters ATE and ATED both ending by the same 5 (or the 2 next to it).
Also, starting with the 5 in the top row 6th col. we can trace the letters ATE anding by both a 3 and a 1. Could be the word COOPERATE OR COOPERATED?

There are several more in all 4 puzzle boxes. I don't know if I'm picking out part of the solve with no clue how to get to it, or if I'm just seeing coincidences.

My brain hurts.

I really want the number pairs to mean something. Why bother with duplicates of each number? They could have just continued counting past 7 otherwise.
Just to throw my minesweeper idea out there: maybe every number indicates how many letters in the vicinity are duds. Or: Look at the 3x3 grid surrounding each number and its duplicate, then keep only the letters that can be found in both. Doesn't result in much useful information though.

Obviously, I'm just guessing, but I think the puzzle squares are just clues to figure out what the answer to the blanks are below it. So since the word wouldn't be in the square, it wouldn't matter if letters from the answer are not in the square itself.

Once all the puzzles have been found and solved, then the letters in the circles are ordered by the numbers beneath them and a single word clue is given?

Sasquatch doesn't fit in the spaces, but I definitely like Dracula. And I'd suggest LOCHNESSMONSTER for the fourth one.

Thanks for pointing that out Cross_. I edited my post above. Redhatty's acutually has 10 spaces, but my tired eyes counted only 9.

And LOCHNESSMONSTER dose fit nicely.

I know it doesn't really matter, but konashark found the source for the Bigfoot toy here: http://www.accoutrements.com/products/11366.html

I wonder how many other of these toys are on their way (or have been received) by other uF members....and which ones got these?

What do we four have in common? I have a thought but need to see if more are delivered first.

And is someone going to tell Derek we have his collection?

I was wondering about that also, but I thought maybe we should wait, like you said, to see if we get any more or at least solve the ones we have first. But personaly, i'm still trying to catch up on all that reading. What do you suggest?

I told Derek about the one I received today & offered to return it to him, he said to keep it Smile He also asked if there was anying else in the package so I gve him the link to my flickr with a pic of the puzzle.

I see a link too. What are we saving this time?
