Can anyone report from Seattle yet?
So what's going on - has the party started?

Ok, it's less then an hour away - has anyone gotten to the Seattle site yet who can let us know what it is like there now?

I doubt we will have anyone reporting from the live event as when these things come down to the final phases at live events, they dont allow any types of cell phones, cameras, laptops, etc.

At least this was my experience from being a treasure hunter winner and a 2 time Gold Rush winner..but who knows what they are doing this time...

Good luck everyone, I would be right there with you, however I had to be home with my precious newborn...

I guess someone there will win the Meta prize? But the whole game is based on points right? So by showing up to the finial event, you loose the ability to get points for finishing the puzzles (and thus loose chances to win the other prizes)?

Or did I read the rules wrong.

BTW - less then 30 mins (and I can't freaking stand it much longer!)

In previous games by 42, those of us at the final events were allowed (and even encouraged) to use them. Granted, they weren't competitive games.

Who knows what will and will not be allowed, but keep your minds open to whatever possibilities. Smile

I rsvp'd too, but never got a reply - I was going to cash in some miles and go, but with out that reply I was not flying 3300 miles to watch a concert.

5 mins and counting -

(BTW - anyone else try adjusting your system clock to see if you can get in earler? It makes the timer hit zero, but won't let you in Wink )

From a web report I just read, there was 5 mins of fireworks. I think I understand that there were hints in the fireworks - maybe both in the actual fireworks, and a projection in the smoke?

Just got back from the Seattle event. Gear Live missed it and thus, doesn't have independent video. Fireworks were amazing, but I'd say roughly half the people there had no idea what was going on at the time. If you weren't "in the know", Microsoft/42 would just say that it was a "Thank You, Seattle" event.

As for the party, they were expecting 500, and got about half that. In fact, they didn't even bother checking invites ... anyone that showed up at Gasworks could have gone. Actually, at the end of the fireworks show, people with flashlights just started yelling "Follow the lights" ... so lots of people did, not knowing what was going on. It was hysterical. I sat on a bus (windows covered in butcher paper so you didn't know where you were going) next to a couple who said, "We were just playing football in the park, and said, 'Hey, this looks cool'. And here we are, on this bus, going hell knows where."

Party was cool. Free food and booze, got to talk to some really cool folks, including Chris, the head of Community Relations for AMD. I interviewed him for Gear Live and that video will probably be up on Monday or so.

Anyway, just thought I'd check in.

Oh, one last thing. People were SCOURING the party for puzzles, apparently not realizing that it was JUST A PARTY. It was kind of fun being the wet blanket and explaining that what they found was just flavor and not some exclusive clue.

I just watched the video on the site, and the fireworks were very long, but it they looked awesome. Wish I could have been there.

It was sort've hard finding the clues for this one.

Party!

Now that was an amazing party. Untold billions of dollars will get you some fireworks and alcohol. I put together a little schematic of the party layout from the floor plan of Fremont Studios. Not shown on it is the FOOD EVERYWHERE. Little tiny hamburgers, burrito bars, pizza, chips, they definitely knew the crowd they were catering to. There were a large number of people who just happened to be at Gas Works, and got swept up in the whole affair. People were explaining the game on the bus ride over.

On a side note, I wore my light-up sound-reactive shirt (http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/generic/8a5b/) in anticipation of the concert. Quite a few people thought I was one of the actors along with Amelia Earhart, etc. I was tempted to start saying things like "the orange building points to the horizon".

So I crashed pretty hard when we got back to the hotel at 2am-ish and did not get around to it this morning, but here is the video I took:

http://vanishingpointwiki.com/media/MVI_4245.mp4

It includes not just the fireworks, but the video before them--although it is a little difficult to see.

Yeah, none of the videos got really good detail on the Loki video clip at the beginning. Hopefully it will get posted later so we can see the screencaps of the sites actively working the game...
