establishing a chat room

Some of us thought that Beth might prefer meeting with her fans in a chat room, rather than opening up 40 individual PM windows.

To that end, we created an AOL chat room, accessible via AIM, as well as holding a room open in IRC. We have not yet (as of this moment) asked Beth where *she* might prefer to meet, or whether she wants to do a group chat at all.

aim:gochat?roomname=FansOfLittleBoxes
If you have AIM installed and paste the above line into the address bar of your IE browser, it will connect you with the chat room. Otherwise, use AIM to find the chat room named "Fans of Little Boxes", or send a PM to catwood76 and I can invite you.

On IRC.chat-solutions.org the room is #fansoflittleboxes

The rule of thumb is to STAY IN CHARACTER, meaning think of yourself as being an innocent subscriber to the little-boxes web site and simply in conversation with Beth as someone who sent you an email about her "Strange Friend". Ask her questions but do not SPEC out loud in the room or refer to the Matrix or the ARG in any way.

And if Beth does stop in, try to go easy - if there's too many people shouting things, she'll probably have to leave.

I like the idea of electing a representative (more for normal IM purposes), so that we can get some quick answers, instead of having Beth answer the same ones over and over again, never getting to the new ones...

Perhaps one of the moderators, or the heavier posters (those that are 'unfettered') could put forward their name's if they are willing to do so; I feel that if we open it to everybody, we'll end up getting every Tom(!), Dick and Harry vying for the opportunity to be the only one who communicates with Beth. I definitely know if I had chat I'd be the one going for goal!

Newbie645 (9:42:01 PM): I was wondering, have you ever used IRC?
bethlmcconnell (9:42:22 PM): IRC? Years ago.
Newbie645 (9:42:47 PM): Ah, it might be easier if we all set up an IRC chatroom to talk in, rather then bombarding you with messages Smile
Newbie645 (9:43:00 PM): I set one up for you if you want it
Newbie645 (9:43:10 PM): Well, catherwood actualy set it up Smile
bethlmcconnell (9:43:54 PM): I don't even know if I have an irc client on this computer.
bethlmcconnell (9:44:03 PM): I'll stick with this.
Newbie645 (9:44:06 PM): Ah, ok!
Newbie645 (9:44:17 PM): perhaps you would rather have an AIM chatroom?
Newbie645 (9:45:00 PM): A few of us have been taken to hanging out in aim:gochat?roomname=fansoflittleboxes
bethlmcconnell (9:45:30 PM): but what about all my other friends and such.
bethlmcconnell (9:45:36 PM): this is just easier.
Newbie645 (9:45:38 PM): Ok
