There is a new post on Ulli's Blog; not that it ever says anything important. Perhaps we should be a bit more cryptic in the drop box; just in case someone who should not finds it.

EDIT01: This is the most awsome posting board i've seen! i can't stop playing with it! So far i've been posting in vigenery cyphers with 'honesty' as the keyword. We should swap everything to whatever keyword the characters post with though.

Tobin's Blog has updated; but nothing important.

Dead Drop 01
It's interesting because we have no proof this is from an ingame character.

Quote:
We have a plan.
The things we suspect U-Media is doing need to be brought to the public's attention. And more than that, they need to be brought to the courts.
We need your help. We need to gather as much information as possible. Ask around. Make contact with employees. Get hold of anything you can. Memos, invoices, anything. The more we know, the more powerful we are.
We are working on a place to store evidence. But for now, this will have to do.
When we have enough, we can take this higher.
We're working on other tactics. Other ways to expose them.
Await instructions. Make friends. Find out everything you can.

And so here's what we need to do. We need to take everything we can find, and back it up on the WebNote board. This includes the video we got (the one that i can't get youtube to play right... gurr; i'll delete it and someone else can have a go.) plus the orrigional file (i'll put that up real soon) and any incriminating stuff found on the forums (i don't really have time to search though the forums again, someone else should do it.) Plus this tells us to find stuff, so i bet there is new stuff to find. We should go everywhere and check everything all over again, and post any differences we find. Looks like it's back to the centre for us.

That's a really good point, and a bit of a problem. We prove our 'authenticity' by encoding messages in Vigenere using their provided key, but of course all that really proves is that whoever writes such a message was capable of decoding their message/understanding what key to use. How do they prove their 'authenticity' to us when they reply? In theory, we wouldn't necessarily even be satisfied with the standard that is being applied to us: Supposing we supplied a new key, and someone used it, all that would prove is that they could decode, not that they are the escapees from the Village. It's a bit of a pickle really now ... the escapees still need to think of some way so that we can know once they post a message at the electronic dead drop that it's really from them ...

Ehh, since I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to codes and such...what is an Honesty Key???

What's your favorite music?
Mine is Rant and Roll.

For the n00b: Many of the cyphers we've found so far are Vigenère cyphers. The only not-crazy-hard way of decoding them is to know the Key Word that was used. the keyword determines which letters are replaced by which other letters, so once you know the keyword you can easly decode it using a program. The keyword used recently is "Honesty". It's actually a pretty lame keyword because it's guessable. a much better keyword to use would be xlfhwoldkwn.

And now for the identification problem: We could always use the Vigenère cypher the way it was designed to. If we secretly tell only our friendly IG characters the keyword, then only those of us and the friendlies would be able to read what we post. The question is how to tell them. Posting it ANYWHERE (other then here and other OOG locations) would be a no no because then others could read it (because it's unrealistic to think that Kessler the computer tech can't solve puzzles that zazq the Philosopher (me) can. I don't think that anyone has has said anything about their email being watched so simply emailing the characters we want to let know may work.

I propose an easy to remember yet unguessable keyword, like...
UMUTMVC (U-Media Uses Too Many Vigenère Cyphers)
what yall think?

EDIT01: MORE RANTING!
Despite the WebNote board being totally the coolest thing I've seen in a long time, it doesn't feel secure enough for the use of compiling information to be used against U-Media. There is no password to get into it, other then simply knowing the URL, which we posted on a blog. (granted in a code, but why can we break the code and Kessler not?) (BTW, I've decided that Kessler killed Ed, and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise. He's the bad guy!!!!!!!!) Plus once you know where it is you could simply delete everything, or worse, change things here and there and nobody could tell. (there is the reload old workspace, but I'm not sure how far that goes back.) We should use a different location, something less wikiable and more secure and permanent.

Anyway, here's what i think happened.

Ed and Sally were working on something called BEF which is important. (Link)
Ed made a big breakthrough, and tried to tell the world. (Link)
Kessler knew Ed was getting close to information he was not supposed to have and refused to meet with him. (Link)
Kessler sent a goon to make Ed behave, but it didn't work. (Same Link)
Ed realized that he was in danger, and tried to get the word out, but was detected. (Link)
And they went there and killed him. (Link)

I've decided that Randell and Maxwell work for Kessler. Thus he is the bad guy. So, is this totally whack?

I got the same email. I've located that spot in Edinburgh using Google Maps. Looks like we'll need a local. Anyone know someone?

EDIT01:
The round building is called the "Old Edinburgh Medical School" and the closer building is called the "George Square Masterplan"

Here is a transcript of the message.

Quote:
This is London calling. This is London calling. This is a message to those of you who have helped us in the past.We had hoped it wouldn't come to this. We had hoped we could

keep it simple take it to the courts legal action .. but well they're ready to launch and we're still deciding exactly what to prosecute them for. So, we have to take more

serious action, we need to get word out and quickly. So we are going to use their own launch against them. They'll be broadcasting a trope to anyone who attends. If we can

control the signal, if we can input our own message, we can stop them ever getting this thing to the market. But they've got filters on the signal, if a single unauthorised stream

interrupts for more than 5 seconds it'll cut out. We need about 30 seconds of access to get our message across so we need to vary the signal. We need lots of little messages.

here's where you come in. I need you to record videos, lots of them, this same message each time - "UMEDIA IS LYING TO YOU". Post them on YouTube and leave a comment on here

with the links. We'll do the rest. We'll be back in touch when we have enough. This is London calling.

London sure does call a lot...
Bah, I was 30 seconds to slow with a transcript....

Well, this seems straight forward enough. Post videos of people saying, showing, or otherwise demonstrating that "U-Media is Lying to you" on Youtube. make sure they are less then 5 seconds. Post links to them on sally's blog, and when they get 30 seconds worth of them, we get our next step. This has to be done before sunday. I don't have any way to creating a video, but i'll try damn hard to get it. So everyone give it a go, and perhaps we'll have enough without me.

Sexy accent, btw.

EDIT01: CRAZY! under 24 hours to go and we got... 2. Come on people! we're already 1/6 the way there!

bump to remind people... Less than two hours away, if my time zone math is correct, and the event is scheduled for 8pm Scotland time. Remember, after uploading your video, you need to add the URL to Hobart's blog comments.

Unfortunately, "This blog does not allow anonymous comments," so if you are not a member of Blogger, perhaps you can post your URL here, and a fellow player can add the comment for you?

Thanks for pointing this out to me Catherwood... Smile

I've not been following this ARG (been too busy running across the country hunting cubes!) Anyway, I'll try and pop over to Bristo Square for 8pm tonight to see what's going down.

Anything that I should expect/keep an eye out for?

I'm not sure what the deal is. The quote above says, "only those on the guest list will be permitted to take part in the experience." I didn't bother requesting an invitation myself, and I haven't seen anyone post specific instructions as to how to "check in" at the event, just the photo above.

If you do go, I suppose it's the usual ARG reconnaisance: look for any activity or people standing about, looking suspicious. Just don't let yourself be brainwashed!
