Reliving The Horror - early, February 7th

I sat in front of my computer screen, playing random games. Fifteen minutes earlier, I'd heard the sounds of a beast attack next door. I knew someone else had died, another soul had been lost to the terrifying monster who stalked my town. I tried not to think about what that meant. I tried not to think about the pain and suffering another family would have to endure. But I couldn't help myself.

Before long I heard snuffling noises outside my window. I turned to look, and to my utter shock I saw two glowing red eyes staring back at me. The Beast! Startled, I reached for the phone and called Ben, the first number that popped into my head. "Ben, it's Jared," I said.

"I don't have too much time," he told me. I was confused for a minute, not sure what he meant. I didn't have too much time, not him.

"The Beast is outside my house..." I managed. The thing outside paced back and forth in front of the window. I saw its long, forked tail swishing back and forth, snapping in the cold night air. Instantly, Ben's demeanor changed.

"Are your parents home?" he asked, worried about me.

"They're upstairs," I said. I'm sure I sounded like a terrified little baby, but I don't care.

"Go upstairs with them," Ben suggested. Suddenly, there was a loud crash, and I whirled around to see the Beast standing in the living room. It growled as it stared at me with those dark red, glowing eyes.

"Oh my god," I said. "The Beast is in the house."

"Go upstairs!" Ben yelled.

The Beast leapt over my head and bounded up the stairs. The phone clattered to the floor and I think it shut off, but I wasn't paying any attention. I heard a shriek from my parents' room, and I ran up the stairs as fast as I could go, not thinking about what would happen if I met the Beast coming back down. There was another loud crash just before I reached the bedroom.

I entered and found my father, lying on the ground, torn and bloody. The window had been shattered, obviously the Beast's exit point. My father. He gasped several times, and then lay still. Mom lay in bed, shrieking her head off.

Shadows danced around the room. Fears, horrors, untold secrets, swirling around me until it became too much, and I collapsed.
My father is dead. He was the last one to be killed last night. I suppose it's good that the killing has stopped, for now, but this makes me angrier than I've ever been. If and when they give us the next task, we need to come at it with more force than before. We need to beat these people at their own game. We allowed them their killing spree, and it MUST not happen again.

I don't think I'll be on much today. There's a lot to do here in Black River at the moment. We have to clean up after the horrors of yesterday.

Well, damn, now I feel bad that I didn't run right out and drop a few hundred on a video camera that I neither want nor need, especially when the folks of Black River worked so hard themselves to save their ow....wait a minute, how many did they do?? LOL!

Ok, naive question, I'm sure, but how the hell do we beat them at their own game by working harder to jump through their hoops?? Confused

I've burnt myself out on this game by trying to dig deeper in order to dig up more on the Org, only to reach dead ends, and be told by Jared that he's not an "information machine". And we are supposed to "beat" this thing how exactly? Bang Head

lol! Yep, I need to step...away...from...the...computer....

He's so cavalier about all the "deaths" around him. Even his own father. "Oh this killing machine animal is butchering my neighbors and I'll just sit and play computer games.." I saw a complete stranger on a motorcycle get creamed by a car a couple of weeks agao and it still makes me sick to my stomach. If it was a family member that died painfully right in front of me I don't think I could possibly even speak to anyone for weeks.

That website is being horribly slow and I had trouble getting it to load for awhile, so here's what it says in case anyone else is having similar problems:

Clark Christian, Dead At 18

By justliloldme2 on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 04:12 PM

He was only 18, having just had a birthday last Thursday. Last night, at about 5:30 EST, a fire ripped through his house. He perished in the flames.

Clark Christian, my boyfriend, died in the fire that completely destroyed his house. He was loved by all who knew him.

I set up this blog so I can chronicle my own healing process as I try to get over this...ÂÂ

Also, this blog is going to be about Remembering Clark, through his life with Alternate Reality Gaming. He was running an ARG when he died, called THE BEAST OF BLACK RIVER. UnForums.com had the game in its ARGS WITH POTENTIAL forum. The game was still running at the time of his death.

Clark spoke about the game all of the time. He was a long-time player of ARGs, what he called a "lurker." He lurked as theives stole cars. He made it his mission to find out just who Benjamin Stove was. He bought Perplex City puzzle cards to find the Receda cube, and as far as I know the last thing he read online was the news of rand0m's success. Clark lurked as Spoocheeeee ruled the world, and as Lucy Middleton snuck into the PhoenixFire building to stop Miss Corinn. He spoke Lanti around the house, and Clark loved bees.ÂÂ

Finally, about three months ago, he decided he was going to run his own game.  He developed a storyline of conspiracy, terrifying monsters, and tragic deaths, and intertwined it with plans for mysterious phonecalls and a variety of websites. When the game launched, Clark was euphoric. He updated Jared's FictionPress during free period at school, he made phone calls from his cell phone at night, and checked the unforums constantly.

And now he's gone. And with him went all of his plans for the game. Clark was terrified of "implosion," so he frequently reminded me that were he to die, I was to tell everyone why the game had died out. And that's what I'm doing.

So please, leave memories of the Beast of Black River as comments on this blog. I'm creating a memorial to Clark and his ARG obsession, and I would appreciate your comments.

Also, I'm not really sure how these things work. If you want, I can tell you the secrets of Black River. Clark told me the main story arc of the game, so I do know most of the stuff that was going to happen. But I don't know how he planned to tell everyone.

Anyway, I have to go. I stayed home from school today because of the fire, and I think I'm going to go take a nap.

EDIT: Send me emails at justliloldme2SPLATgmail.com

Also, please ignore any strange characters. This blog is being strange

Ok folks...for those of you who just need a little more BBR, I might have something for ya.. Laughing

For what it's worth, BK2k7 contacted me again, and he actually had something to say for a change. He is saying that there is more to the story, that Jared is actually involved on some level, and that there is something about Jared that he (BK) knows that Jared wants desperately to keep secret. Oh yeah, BK also said that if anyone can "uncover" the mystery, they get $1,000 from him... Confused I don't see this happening in a million years, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

I still don't have much of a feel for whether BK is IG (or even if there is a game to be "in" anymore) or not, it could really go either way as far as I'm concerned. But, for me at least, he was the most interesting part of this ARG anyway, so that's a plus, right? Laughing

I'm not going to post his IMs here. This game has kind of fizzled out, there was a general consensus that BK was a jack, and, I'm the only one he seems to want to talk to. However, I will save them, and if anyone still wants to play along, just let me know, and I'll keep you updated.

Personally, I'm a little curious to see where this goes. As long as there are no stuffed toys and YouTube performances involved, that is...LOL!
