[META] Mailing lists and notifications

Just curious if there is a way to be put on the ARG trailheads mailing list without putting my address out there for the bots to mine. This game looked like it would have been fun. If the PMs are going to be doing a game in the future and will have me, I'd love to be included.

I'm still wondering where they got the initial address/name list.

I've only given mine out to a couple of PMs. So I'm thinking either the list came from Sammeeeees or Catching the Wish.

In my case, I sent my address in for Derek's "win a bigfoot" drawing. I got mine a little after the first wave, so they must have had everyone else's first.

Yeah, how is it that certain people get targeted for trailheads? Or do you just hand around enough that PM's eventually pick up on the fact that you're the one's to contact.

And, Rogi, there's nothing that says you still can't join!

The Sameeeees launch seemed pretty obvious that it was come-one, come-all with the boxes being sent just to SpaceBass. Looking back, it seems like the intent was to do the same thing with this, only on a larger scale. But it ended up (at least for me) coming off as an invite-only type of thing.

Ah. Well I don't believe so. The puzzle solving started before people got packages and people are still getting packages even now. Besides, I don't think the trailhead would have been posted in a movie trailer if it was by invitation only.

Edit: Or at least it's wishful thinking on my part since I'm obsessed with this ARG

Yeah, there is. You actively play the games run by the PMs and give them your address at some point during the game. That way, the next time that specific PM group launches a game, your name will be on their list of 'core players' and you might just get rewarded for that. Alternatively, you could start an influential ARG site and/or become a driving force in the ARG scene, giving you lots of exposure, thus making it more likely that any items sent to you would be known throughout the community.

Even if there was an universal mailing list that PMs could access, it's more than likely that they would choose names that were known to them, either through personal experience or reputation. If a PM has to bribe people to play their game, then there is a fundamental problem somewhere. You garner more loyalty and a better reputation through rewards rather than bribes.

Well, being a fairly active (and I feel, responsible) poster on uF and registering on dozens of game sites doesn't seem to have been super effective. Probably due to the aforementioned taciturnity regarding my personal information and an inability for the PMs to connect RL info to my ARG persona. I try to carefully consider which games I get involved in as I don't have the time to devote to watching a bunch at once. So, typically, I either wait too long and the game has moved along too far to feel good about joining or I pick a dog.
I've wasted a lot of time creating puzzles for half a dozen games that ended up not launching because the story got too be too much work for the PMs. So if I stop doing that, I guess I'll have some more time to devote to watch burgeoning games.
The writing thing is never going to happen and I really haven't the time or charisma to be a driving force, so I'll just keep trying to develop my sense of smell.
I agree about rewards vs: bribes (ACWE), in general, but defining when something is or isn't a bribe can be pretty subjective.

ETA: This got a whole lot more META than I intended. To put a bow on it, it was just a note to the PMs in case they were listening. And I realize that my having spoken my mind on previous games may be a factor in whether they decide to do anything with it or not.
