Rand0m, this is the story everyone WANTS TO HEAR take your time, it's like totaly badass that we get to hear a player tell us the endgame from the ingame clues.

I agree totally, keep going and don't miss anything out. We're all on the edge of our seats!!

This is great - take your time (although I don't actually want you to)!

Take as much time as you like... this is compelling reading and you're doing a great job telling your tale. Seeing the Flickr photos and following the story step by step is almost as good as being there!

I think finding the Cube is a bit like catching The Golden Snitch isn't it, don't think Rand0m needs to worry about 50 extra points now!

<pedantry>I don't think that's the right analogy - you can catch the golden snitch and still lose the match</pedantry>

Also the Snitch is small and light - the Cube weighs as much as a couple of house bricks. You'd certainly know about it if you dropped it on your foot. But I like the Quidditch analogy a lot Smile

Thanks, my comment wasn't really open to such analysis, just the idea that being the guy who found The Cube is worth more than being top of the leaderboard for season 1. IMO.

By the way, don't think anyone has congratulated you yet on finding it, so well done. Smile

This is thrilling reading - keep going!
I'm actually pretty shocked that my only real contributions to this first season was that it was me all those years (!) ago who first found Kurt and Violet's websites (...they turned out to be the culprits! Shocked ) plus working out how to read the message across the cards by Combed Thunderclap (which was the first step on a long path to working out what was going on!).

Personally, though the prize, cube, glory, etc. is quite a bit in and of itself, I think it would be appropriate in-game for bonus points to be awarded as well for finding the cube, but it doesn't appear that's happened, though perhaps it will at the party.

I actually like the not-getting-points bit. It wouldn't take an unreasonable amount to zoom us to the top of the leaderboard, considering how many have been given for winning competitions or doing well at live events. But doing that really would focus a disproportionate amount of attention on us at the expense of the rest of the community. Look at the names in the top 10 at the moment - people like Tally, Guin, Ixalon and the crew that set up the Perplexorum, all huge names in the game (and yes, I very emphatically stayed here when the Perplexorum was founded, but that doesn't mean I don't recognise the achievement involved in setting it up from whole cloth so quickly, effectively and successfully). I'm happy to be so close behind them, sharing 19th - and would have been whoever found the Cube.

At first I thought, "Yeah, if nothing else, for in game reasons he should get a butt load of points," but then I realized that the leaderboard is more of a MC thing than a find The Cube thing. The puzzles on the cards that are solved for points didn't end up having anything to do with finding The Cube. View From Earth articles and Letters to The Sentinel didn't either. The video competition, the Extreme Puzzling competition - all MC things. Then there's the live events. The live events that didn't forward the story rewarded points (PCAG) and the ones that did (re-establishing the link, all the online events) got nothing. Funny, this is the first time I realized any of this.

Still, even if he doesn't think so, I think Ramd0m should get a cool 333 points. The more I read from this guy, the more I think he DESERVED to find The Cube. I mean, my "fear" was it would be found by some no-one-anybody-ever-heard-of who stood on the backs of others while claiming to have solved everything on their own who in reality just got lucky. Rand0m is a UF regular, gave props to those who deserved it, and used superior methods to find The Cube. I love it when things work out the way they should.

My sentiments exactly. Well said.

Rand0m: I'm enjoying reading about your journey. At least you put the effort in and didn't just happen upon it by accident.
*waiting eagerly for Part 4 Smile

I think that's a good sentiment, but really, getting points for rushing around madly shouting at people (erm...me) and getting more for writing the odd letter of indignation to the Sentinel (that's me again) is incomparable to cube finderage and I don't think anyone would object that youd've earnt them, had they been given! Plus for all those card-solving leaderboard-climbing fiends, there's always the Season 2 leaderboard to climb to the top of Smile

How great is it that you find the Cube while in the middle of house hunting? What a perfect time to come up with some extra cash! And that your sister just had a baby? (Tell me they didn't give the baby "Violet" as a middle name.) All kinds of good things happening at once.

Also, so impressed that you didn't give up after not finding the Cube right away. I think many of the players here managed to get discouraged at one time or another about finding the Cube, so we can all relate.

I'm really enjoying reading this story.

Hey Rand0m just wanted to add my congratulations to all the others you've been getting. I am glad you're sharing your story with everyone here, and what a superb tale you're telling too, can hardly wait for the next installment.
My card solving has slowed down in recent days, I have been following the hunt for and finding of the cube so closely! So puh-lease can we have the next installment soon and some more details on those agonising hints you have been dropping about puzzle solves! Very Happy
