The NinWiki site is down due to all the traffic it was getting. Should be back up in the morning from the latest info I have. The signal to noise ratio in that thread is bad between pg 40 and 60, and not that good overall, but there are a few good points being discussed if they don't get lost... Give it a few days, my guess is that they are going to wrap things up around the release of the album in April so they are pacing themselves at this point. A whole lot of speculation and not a lot of hard info. I bet this weekend things get REALLY crazy when people have more time to devote to it. Keep the info coming!

"Dates"

Just want to make sure people on this end are aware that the 24.X.X have been equated to Halo (album number), track, letter in the Echoing forums. This could lend a hand to cracking into things further.

Hey, guys. I'm Merzbau, the guy organizing the thread over at ETS. I'm really shocked with how big this has become. I wasn't the least familiar with ARGs before this came about, my only experience having been with Majestic back in 2001.

Having said that, I'll be keeping tabs on you guys over here (I've been lurking, of course). I know I'm probably not doing the best job of this, but I'm nothing more than a simple Nine Inch Nails fan having some fun. Smile

Oh, and the thread turns to crap every now and then. I blame in the influx of excited NIN fans and the fact that ETS was linked to Digg. :\ It really puts a damper on things, making it all much worse than it normally is, but alas, here we are. We're just trying to deal with it as best as we can, I suppose.

Yeah man, it's been nuts trying to keep up with all the posts over at your site! I feel like I can't get caught up enough to even try and solve anything to help out! Still, it's fun nonetheless. And I've never done any ARG's nor am I big NIN fan.

It's definitely gotten quite crazy over there. Most of the posts are mindless speculation in which people don't really think before they hit 'submit.' I guess I'll stick up for 'em, though. After all, they're simply excited. A new NIN album is a rare thing. Wink

I apologize to anyone trying to read that thread. Great info is few and far between, but people are sending me PMs by the minute with decent info, and I pretty much only update my original post when there's a good reason to. Only some of it is based on speculation. I won't lie and say that it's a great post—it's definitely raw, loosely organized, and I probably missed a ton of things. Even still, it sure does help!

I hope to have a lot of fun with this. Smile

Merzbau! Welcome! You are doing a great job on the other forum. I think we can all understand the problems with a new forum for a new and popular arg (cough ilovebees cough). Around here, they tend to get broken up to make them more manageable. You might want to look at the perplexcity forums here to get an idea of how the mods here like to separate things out.

Not that everyone follows the guidelines, but it is a start, and might help you out.

what exactly would make this an ARG and separate it from being a complicated promotion(which it basically is either way Razz )?

I think that would mostly lie in interaction.
If they included any between you and a character I would say it is an ARG in the true sense.
But that's really just how I think of ARGs.

yeah - some form of interaction, even just one of the characters asking us to find something out would elevate this to 'game' status for me, rather than just 'complicated reading' Smile

Holy crap! LOL
Wow...

OK, so this'll probably be the only thing I say out here.

I managed to dig up a copy of "My Violent Heart." I was watching my scrolling voiceprint visualzation on Winamp and laughed. REALLY HARD.

The static at the end on the song is set up in such a way that it creates the image of "The Presence" on the voiceprint.

Morethanshapes from ETS found this hidden in the images on various sites.

It's a passage from The Hobbit.

Huh?

Found "what" and "where"? Some of us are not in the ETS site or can't access it from work. It would be nice if the relative points were also posted in uF if we are going to continue to follow this trail.

I'm starting to get a little lost now. Do we have any summary post yet? Do we have a story? Have we figured out who some of our characters are?

Sorry, i posted a link to the post on the other forums but it's kinda hard to see.

There are "broken" images on the sites, these contain words but it's hard to piece together. A couple of folks at ETS did it and came up with that quote.

If that's the case, below is the list of all the 24.x.x that we've gathered thus far, followed by the corresponding letter from the appropriate Year Zero (presuming Survivalism doesn't prove to be Halo 24... if so, we're all f*cked) song title. I decoded the morse myself, so if you have something different than I do for one of these sources, feel free to call me out on it. I'm fairly confident in these though, as I viewed the waveforms/patterns in a sound editor on one monitor while referencing the morse code on the other monitor. I'm a visual kinda guy...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ballgameover.mp3 - 24.10.5 - G
opalo.mp3 - 24.10.3 - d
nohurry.mp3 - 24.10.1 - G
anotherversionofthetruth.com - 24.10.8 - e
consolidatedmailsystems.com/nooneimportant - 24.10.4 - " "
105thairbornecrusaders.com - 24.10.6 - i
bethehammer.net - 24.10.7 - v
churchofplano.com - 24.10.2 - o
phone message.mp3 - 24.15.2 - n
opalscenthaze.com - 24.12.9 - t

Altogether, that gives us the following letters: GdGe ivont

I ran all that through an anagram generator, but nothing seemed to stand out as making any sense - of course it wouldn't know proper nouns involved in this story, either. And I'm not sure I have all the 24.x.x's either. Holler if you have one that I don't.

PS: Hi everybody. This is my first post and first ARG, but I've been listening to NIN for about 12 years now. Nothing against ETS, but I'm not going to try to sift through all the nonsense in that forum for this ARG - I'll just work on it here with you guys (and gals, I presume), if that's alright. =)
