I've been insanely busy with school, so i havent been on the boards in nigh on weeks now, so I was shocked when my roommate told me this morning that the cube had been found! But I am certainly glad to hear, echoing previous sentiment, that it was indeed found by someone very deserving of it. Many congratulations!!!!!

I look forward to hopefully being of some actual use in S2 Cool

Grats!

I know it's been said, but thank you Rand0m, for not only being the one to finally find the cube, but to write about it so eloquently! I live in the US; my "other half" and I have solved many cards, but there was no way we were going to be able to go to the UK to dig up the 100,000 quid of metalwork.

Congratulations! Spend it wisely!

...and someone make the suggestion to MC that at least one of the next "endings" be in the US...PLEASE!

Imagine that: having multiple ending spots in different countries, and it's a necessity to be a part of the community to connect them. How cool would that be?

Are Newbies welcome?

I happened accross Perplex City a couple of months ago and was...perplexed. I find this very intriguing and I am a big fan (my kids would say addict) of puzzle solving.

The idea of a whole new game about to beginning is exciting to me. I must say that I am hesitant though. I feel as though I may be too much "out of the loop". Do you think I would be left in the dust with the new season since I am basically totally unfamiliar with the story and characters. I'd love to try this, but I'm afraid it might be impossible to catch up.

I'd love to get some feedback on this. If this community is already pretty tight, are there any other things like this that youmight suggest?

P.S. I loved reading the story written here by the recent winner. Congratulations!

Season 2 will start from afresh with new puzzles and a new aim so it will be easy for you to play, the main gist of any backlog that may occur will be brought up here in the forums anyway, I started playing 2 years in on season 1 and made sense of most of the main story although there are always some bits you miss. The forums are a great way to find out what's happening though.

If you like puzzles you'll love PXC but one bit of advice, think about registering as some people don't like guest commentators (although I don't see the problem), apart from that, join in, have fun and the community is ever increasing so don't be scared to join in !

Ta very much Smile

Like any community, it has its good moments and its not-so-good moments but on the whole it's inclusive and welcoming, and there will certainly be a corner for you to slot into, whether on unFiction or in another one of its offshoots.

There is a certain amount of backstory from the first season, obviously, but the core of it is pretty simple to tell and either it will be rapidly overtaken by new stuff and rendered unimportant or the new game will be so different that the backstory isn't important.

But basically it goes like this:

There's a city in an alternative world where puzzles are as important to them as sport is to us. Their quasi-religious mystical Cube got pinched and hidden on Earth, so the head of their Academy, Sente Kiteway, assembled a team of experts to design puzzle cards that would intrigue us into wanting to help them recover it.

The team were a mixed bunch. Its head was the likeable mother-figure Anna Heath. Aiko was a spiky artist, Caine a brooding musician, and Garnet a straight-laced soldier. Tippy was a ditsy socialite, Kurt a likeable geek (and our main point of contact) while Von was the wide-eyed kid thrilled to be included in the team with the grown-ups. Sente's daughters also got involved - the snarky, poker-playing librarian Violet and the naive young journalism student Scarlett.

In the end it turned out that Violet, with Kurt as back-up, accidentally stole the Cube when trying to save it from the sinister Third Power. It unexpectedly teleported her to Earth, where she buried it, and since then she and Kurt have been trying to give us just enough hints so that we could find it without the Third Power getting there first. In the meantime Caine turned out to be 3P and therefore evil, murdering Anna and torturing Scarlett.

And I think that's about it. PXC season one for beginners.

Does anybody know if "perplex city" will reveal the solutions of all the puzzles?

And what was the procedures to find the cube?

Those of us who have been crunching numbers on The 13th Labour card for the best part of a year will be extremely cheesed off if they do that Evil or Very Mad
(especially given the hint from Mind Candy that it will be solved if we stay on track...)

They're all probably still nursing off the grandmother of all hangovers. Wink

(Yes, I realize that it's been almost a week. My point still stands.)

1) I just want to hear the official solution about some intriging puzzle and the way we should have solved them. I know that lots of people found some solutions by "brute force" or guess but still don't know what is the correct path to get the solution.

2) do you really think that the 13th labor can be brute force cracked? From what I read, it could take a *very* long CPU time.
Same thing for Riemann... I am not hoping to get the solution from perlpex city Wink

3) the fact that perplex city reveals the solution does not compel you to read them! Wink

So, was the cube found in blob 188 or blob 191?

The whole point of 13th Labor is a brute force attack.
And yes, it IS taking a lot of CPU time. Very Happy
