Yeah, I figured this was the jewels in UV ink on 156 - someone somewhere noted they were in different boldnesses, but what's the proper name for this? "Bold"? "Font weight"?

Maybe Google will know?

Edit: Actually, I'm less sure now. "Phenomenon" in the original text definitely hints at the card's puzzle itself...

Had a look at the puzzle on the new website!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I think the word 'Knight' or even 'night' might give some people a bit of a clue!

Can't wait till March 1st!!

I also had another look at card 156 again. I used to be a printer until teaching grabbed me! There are a few different processes that can be applied to the card:

Trapping - Thats one layer of ink over another.

Mechanical Seperation - Thats a mechanical art overlay for every colour to be printed.

Ghosting - To be honest, this refers mostly to a faint image thats not really supposed to be there but in light of the U.V. text (U.V! 'in light of! HA! I crack myself up!) I thought it might be relevant.

4 Colour Process - This is an industry standard for full colour printing.

What that could do with the clue is beyond me I'm afraid but I hope it helps someone!!

Misregistration - causes gaps between colors in the printing process.

I thought the issue with card #156 is that the dots of colors were not oriented properly? They had to be re-oriented so you could read the answer.

Misregistration is avoided by a process called trapping.

As has been suggested, I think it's a reference to the UV overlay of the six precious stones mentioned on card 30 "End of the Line".

The solution to the "swordsmen..." puzzle made me think of
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
casle castle on card 94

And since a castle is a type of fortress maybe this relates to "follow the fortress's example". Also the diamond on that card seems to link it to 156. Not sure what this could mean (if anything). Any ideas?

Then, follow the fortress's example, and that should take you quite some way.)

If you take a look at the sequence given to us for the number strings by Combed Thunderclap, 156 seems to stand out - its number strings are used much later in the sequence than you might expect (most, but not all, of the cards are used in something fairly close to numerical order). Odd.

I was thinking of moire effects where when two different sets of dots are overlayed an interference pattern emerges. How Moire would relate I have no idea.

I am sure this is wrong and I hope it is as it would be very corny but my only thought is

Whereas spam is a message you don't want , ham is one that you do. We therefore have "rocks in ham"

Rockingham having a castle and a forest. Great wakerley wood is part of Rockingham Forest.

Will someone please come up with a better answer cos this one is stuck in my head and I "can no longer see the wood for the trees"! Mad

Without giving too much away, I'm guessing the "fortress' example" is along the same lines as the puzzle listed on the PXC page. Think about "Casle" vs "Castle".

How that relates to card 156 I have no idea yet. A lot of terms are being thrown about, but I don't see how any of them in particular would help in terms of the same puzzle format. Regarding the gemstones... (spoilered in case you're working on the PXC page puzzle...)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the only gemstone I can see with a silent letter is "diamonds" (for the A)

but that's nothing to do with typography.

Another possible term is "stochastic screening", which also has a silent 'H' in it...

In the meantime, here's a puzzle for you. Email your answer to otherSPLATperplexcity.com and we'll select a random winner to receive a totally
fun PicoZ Micro Helicopter, Perplex City goodies, and Guy will write a song about how awesome you are. FACT.

Ready? Here you go:

Swordsmen, honorable, jeopardous. Viscounts soften leopard's fate. Castle's heir hates science; builds doubt counterfeitly.
Aesthetic hymns? Wednesday's answer rhymes "leopard", "djinni"; guaranteeing alignment. Plaid thistles guarantee psychosis.

I was informed today that I won this puzzle prize.
For those who never figured it out,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
it's based on the silent letters in the words
.
A song, hmm.
