Meta Backsolves
or how we *should* have found the cube.

Mind Candy have stated that we had everything we needed to find the cube once the Wave 4 cards were on sale (ie before all the Library of Babel stuff), and it seems from the bottom of the current www.perplexcity.com page that they're planning on giving us hints towards how we should have done this. I thought I'd start this topic to keep track of all this.

So, from the Beale cipher on card #223, Secret location, we get the "Five Fingers Point" message, which suggest that there are five meta puzzles on the cards to solve to find the location:
  • Half the world
  • Realm
  • Region
  • Feature
  • Last Mystery

Last mystery seems to me to be Gyvann's quote on end of the line. This make sense once you're in Wakerley Great Wood and is therefore solved.
Feature I would guess is the Duke of Burgundy butterflies which we should have eventually got from the number strings. See below for more on this.
Region would be the Jurassic Strata, which we can get from putting the amorphous blobs together. How we go from Jurassic Strata to Jurassic Way, I'm not sure.
Realm and Half the World, I don't know yet.

So the un(back)solved wave 4 meta puzzles are:

  • otpaaworldtdnia 1.56.29 on #237 Roaming Identity
  • The Risk pieces on cards #40 #58 #60 and #90
  • The hidden text (a list of jewels) on #156 Going Dotty
Anyone think of any others?

I also don't get how we were meant to solve the number strings puzzle. I don't see how we could have put them in the correct order without the list of co-ordinates and +/- symbols from the LoB site.
I can (just about) see that once we'd got the order, Sightseeing/Translation Approach on the last number string card was a clue to use the map of perplex city, and I suppose key square is a good a place as any to start, but I've no idea how we were supposed to know that was the correct approach even if we tried it.
Next, I've no idea how we're meant to go from the resultant letter string (FRB...) to RNA transcription. The RNA link gives us FEMARLEMSSGQQD, which we're meant to read as FEARLESS, BOLD, GOOD, (EM = emphasis = bold) which when put into google should give us the Dukes of Burgundy, leading to the butterflies in Wakerley Great Wood. Well, ok, although I think the em = bold thing is a bit dodgy.

So can anyone help with any of this? Have I missed out any unsolved metapuzzles?

Mind Candy has provided the following clue for #156:
Quote:
How to find a Cube, part one of many: 156 - Consider the correct typographic term for this phenomenon. Then, follow the fortress's example, and that should take you quite some way.

Any ideas?
