Letter from Sente

Sente wrote:
Dear Friends,

Perplex City owes the people of Earth a tremendous debt of gratitude. In January 2004, a priceless artefact was stolen from our people and hidden on Earth; we asked for your help. Tens of thousands answered our call, and in February 2007, the Receda Cube was found and returned to us. There are no words to express how profoundly we appreciate all of you for taking on this task. Your loyalty and perseverance have been nothing short of legendary.

As a token of our thanks, the Academy of Perplex City would like to present this puzzle community to you. We have assembled it with the help of the fine men and women of Mind Candy. We hope you enjoy of it, as we have enjoyed creating it for you; here, you will find a collection of the finest mind-stretching riddles and games the Academy could devise. Though the Cube has been retrieved, be on the lookout for your old friends on the Cube Retrieval Team - Tippy, Kurt, Garnet, and others - you may find signs of them in the most curious places.

In days to come, we will also be allowing you to present your own puzzles here, for we have learned in Perplex City that creating a puzzle is just as enlightening and entertaining as solving one - if not more so. And the community even then will be far from complete - there are more surprises yet to unfold. We look forward to continuing our journey together.

Play on, and stay sharp.

Sente Kiteway

Perplex City Stories
The Alternate Reality Game

Perplex City is full of puzzles - but it's also full of people. And those people have problems that need to be solved.

Solving real problems takes more than a bit of mental arithmetic. It takes people skills, intuition, a keen eye and a quick wit. It takes a detective. It takes you.

In Perplex City Stories, you'll get the chance to investigate real problems in the real world in real time. Solve murders. Find thieves. Claim rewards. You won't be able to do it all from the comfort of your desk, though - you'll need to get out there and make calls, talk to City residents and look for clues wherever they might lead you.

Start your story. Visit perplexcitystories.com.

From here. I know the url points to the same site as in this thread but interesting hints at the format for Season 2, no?

That is actually pretty damn funny.

WELOVEPUZZLES.COM, now runs off of PUZZLE POWER. If you don't each log in and keep a steady flow of solves coming in, the site will crash and you will go through withdraws!

Kinda like keeping a fresh log on the fire to keep it going Wink

Just some things i've told MC about so they don't get too many repeat responses.

When solving card #030 it asks for a phone number.

On the Competitions page they missed out a C on the word Competition at the end.

On the Fansites list they did not use full stops in all the right places.

I had several of the images and links on one page copy twice. Sent them a pic.

Add anything you have e-mailed them about so we can keep their workload down. Cool

edit adding: On the FAQ under what do the wave numbers mean, there is a typo.

edit adding: On the Eye candy puzzle, Rings, The question, How many moves does it take? is not actually stated. Only other facts.

edit adding: On the Eye Candy puzzle "Shopping List" there is a typo.

: On the Eye candy puzzle "Colourmaze" There are no dots to click to enter your answer.

edit adding: On the FAQ page about leaserboards there is a typo on the word Acquire.

edit adding: On the Terms and Conditions page there is an extra space like this. Mind Candy 's. It should be Mind Candy's.

I've just been solving Hitori puzzles for the past half hour Smile

Yay for free Japanese puzzle fun.

You think we'll get points for free games this time? Maybe I won't have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on cards this season.

I still will. but it's nice to have the option.

Just when you think

Just when you think Perplex City has been there, done that... then they surprise with a whole new approach to the game.

Before PXC, most mainstream puzzle websites were very similar - some set of same-old puzzles, a coupld of crosswords, and some sudoku. If you wanted to go "puzzling" on the web, you would either be switching from website to website, or you would rather buy one of those puzzle PC games from the store. (Either that, or you went to one of those point-and-click sites / puzzle-level sites where you try to solve a series of puzzles involving mostly knowledge to dissect html tags and codes).

PXC Season 1 came -- rocked us with a good ARG, and kick-ass puzzle cards that really redefined PUZZLE for all the lame-ass puzzles that came before. One big storyline, and collectible cards.

PXC Season 1 went done, and we expected the same thing for PXC Season 2 - another big storyline, and more cards.

But oh, MC is more sneaky than that. They went back and brought us the traditional puzzles, but this time, with EVERY VARIETY imaginable, and with already a 50,000+ puzzling community drooling over their work (sorry for the drool MC.).

Not only that, they still had the ARG - PXC Stories - but now, from the way it sounds, its going to appear as smaller chunks of puzzling work (think CSI / Monk / whatever detective / crime solving thing you watch on TV). Of course, I'm expecting there'll be "stories" which start out innocently separate, but end up as one big conspiracy for season 2.

I expected another season 1 type of approach to puzzling, but instead, MC gave us that and so much more for season 2. Thanks!!! Very Happy

I'm in for the long haul, MC!
