Where's the Beef

I'm probably not echoing the sentiments of the masses, but thought I'd throw it out for discussion anyway.

I'm really frustrated with the story/plot of this game. We have a basic path we're following, but IMO, the plot hasn't been furthered in a while. We get more and more cryptic (possibly nonsensical) journal entries that don't really tell us a whole lot.

These latest entries read like something is contained in them that we need to find, and yet are so convoluted that I'm not even sure if we could find what we're supposed to be looking for (assuming we are) or what to do with it if we found it. And if they don't contain "clue information" how do they further the storyline?

Do we really know a whole helluva lot more than we did 2-3 weeks ago. Bad Guy Boddy is taking over the world, the good Rev is trying to battle his Evil along with the help of The Lady Selene, Mike is out of jail, it seems the Rev has found the Librarian...and, well...that's about it.

I find this stuff extremely hard to wade through without clear incentive. It's not as if I want everything handed to me in a concise format, but I do think things are moving a tad too slow, and it all seems too fragmented.

Maybe it's because of my own personality that I haven't been inclined to care about the characters as much as some players. I haven't seen the characters develop as I was expecting. They still seem so "unreal", like pieces of a chess game rather than living breathing people in the midst of a pilgrimage.

Maybe these journal entries are, indeed, part of the puzzle and/or clues...and I'm just feeling exasperated at having to read them ten thousand times to find something that may or may not be there.

I don't know...just frustrated...lol. I'm sure there are groups out there somewhere who have solved everything completely and I'm just not seeing the forest for the trees.

Every week I invest my time in a game I keep hoping will be worth all the real life task procrastination, and somehow I end up at the same answer....I should have been doing "that" instead. There was a point in the game where things were interesting (both puzzles and plot - around the time of the Moon Puzzle), but things have fallen off dramatically IMO.

But it's just my opinion and maybe my linear personality. I'll continue to be optimistic until something better comes along to pique my interest.

vegetarian game

Agreed. Games like Timehunt involve 1) learning something new and 2) different types of puzzles.

These are words games, each and every time. Count the words, fnd the initials, read them backwards. And there's a LOT of words there.

No plot development thus far. Minimal interactive experience. No short term reward for success (although Thea was kind enough to give me a code for a LiveJournal access after I figured out Selene's email).

But, I'm having a hard time wanting to work on this, and some of the others that I communicate with are saying the same.

yep yep yep yep yep

i find myself not caring if I solve the puzzle or not. I find myself ignoring journal entries unless they're directly linked to a clue. I find myself ignoring journal entries when they are linked to a clue. I find myself just in a general state of apathy when it comes to this game. The plot is boring, I have no desire to find cybercafes in Cali, I don't care that Lady Selene had leukemia, or that Ourfather's frooting out on a daily basis. Wah. Wah. Wah.

I don't care. I'm really disappointed by this. I'm still lurking around, but with growing disconcern.

me too

The problem is, solving the puzzles doesn't develop the story. We solve a puzzle and what do we get? A word (or a tenuous link to a word) Yippee!

If we don't solve a particular puzzle, then we just get more and more hints until we get given the word on a plate. What's the point?

Where's the fun in spending hours attempting to solve a puzzle if there's no incentive, no reward and a boring storyline?

I, for one, have redirected my favourites from noahboddy.com to jadedmedia.net

I agree....although i find myself interested in abednego's fate, i am having a very hard time with the lady selene storyline. NB better move this along a little quicker...give us some more interaction with other characters maybe, or something(?)...I also agree that the 'solves' are boring. I'd like a solve that had an immediate benefit...instead of just another string-a-long word. Hopefully the pace will pick up or i may just check in at the end and see what it was all about. Confused

It was kind of dumb luck alex....if you go to the four lines that can spell CELL you'll see they're pretty close together...I just caught the "word" (not the letters) out of the corner of my eye while I was reading it.

Yeah, I gave up on Noah Boddy myself...had great potential and a built in gaming audience, but as far as I'm concerned I'm not concerened...which, to me, is a sure fire indicator that I'm toatally bored with the material.

I cared about what happened with Push.

I could care less about Noah Boddy.

I still applaud their effort and desire to continue on after the Push plug was pulled, but they lost me and my interest a long time ago...

Good luck to those of you who continue on...I'll look things over and lurk around...hell, maybe I'll even chime in with thought once in a while, but I'm done actively solving for this game...

John

Build a little birdhouse 4 your soul...

well that narrows it down to two.
Mt. Sill Calif. 14,162
Mt. Shasta Calif. 14,162

One has already been mentioned in other spec.

If Birdy weren't the nick for someone else dear to me. I probably wouldn't have bothered.
Maybe I don't really anyway.

RE: Birdy's Post Above

Birdy's honey was writing them to some of us who were playing our own off board NB game (because like you we got bored) and he didn't know how to do it right so I apologize for the posts.. when she gets back from Mt. Shasta she will be a bit upset so please excuse the above the post Smile She, I and several others are pretty disgusted with NB too so we started playing "where in the world is carmen birdy" lol incorporating some NB stuff into it... so the above post is something that doesn't need to be here ... need I say that those of us playing the "off board" NB game have also decided to look elsewhere? I can't add to what all you have said about the game because you all have pretty much summed it up: It doesn't "mesh" and the puzzles are not what one would expect from a PM of an ARG game (probably the entire game is for someone's thesis on group interpersonal relationships!)... so we too are gone and simply posting whenever we have nothing better to do.... sorry for the miss-understanding....

mad as hell

OK, I am unbalanced... but

I suspect the NB game is a practical joke on ME

I DO recognize much in the cryptic posts, and they all point to friends and family of mine. I also see much of my own life alluded to... things that happened yesterday are on the boards and journals of today!

I am freaked and VERY angry

pifi8/twofar

I WILL NOT PLAY THIS GAME and don't even mention "apology"

You are ALL players, unless you R BEING played
be warned there are such things as permanently bruises
TIME makes prisoners of us all things fade
sumX no winners, everyone loses

bitter pills
cure ills

apologies? I think NOT
