Obviously the .wav name in /chasm is decimal for "notes".

There's also a fodder.gif. Not sure what's important about it, but in the text at the end there's "LAME3.97" which appears to be a mp3 encoder?

Edit: I am unfortunately not very familiar with Tool.

Before we pine away...

Just for the record:

Email from Mike:

Quote:
Sometimes, you have to look for the notes in the Reflection.

and Forum post:

Quote:
I see. Grin I also like the song Reflection too. "And you'll come to find, that we are all of one mind. Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable."

Now I've listened to Reflection in my car for I don't know how long, it's as good as "Summertime Rolls" or "3 Days" from Jane's Addiction IMHO - but I still can't:

"connect the goddam dots" - Al Jourgansen

(sigh)

Here's some food:

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/t/tool/reflection_20139402.html

Hey, at the very least I'm revisiting my Tool collection. I'm beginning to wish I would've bought 10,000 days, but I'm getting old and moldy Wink -- (and quite drunk at the moment due to a hard days night)

May I make a suggestion?

I like them too, but my love will always be for Tool. The song that comes after Parabol on the CD is another favorite. It means the world to me.

The tunguska picture has the word "cartesian" written on the bottom half of it. In fact, the picture is of a parabola. Anyone know what song comes after Parabol? I think that might be significant to our puzzle.

Nice, thanks - I was using a lower case c... oh well.

Googled some disassembler/analyzer type freeware and all I could find is that it's not an exe (according to it's headers), and mapping it spits out a bunch of ASM that I don't have the faintest clue how to deal with.

So stuck on thefinaltest, the wav files, the pretty bold assertion that tool song names/notes will come into play, and the mention of descartes and parabalas.

That and the last forum entry:

Quote:
I think you're all overlooking the single most important thing on the site. It may seem totally irrelevant, and out of place... but it's not what you see from it that's important.

I assume that's the poem on the main site? I'm just not in a very analytical mode this fine, hungover saturday morning...

While looking for images of the Tunguska Event, I found an image that was similar to the top half of the tunguska-1.jpg.

A bit further down the page, a book called the Kolbrin Bible (a collection of ancient manuscripts said to have been salvaged from the Glastonbury Abbey arson in 1184. The first part was written by Egyptian scholars shortly after the Hebrew exodus from Egypt, the second part was written by Celtic priests in Britian after the death of Jesus).

And then this blurb:

Quote:
Could We See Two Suns in Five Years?

Is it possible we live in a binary solar system with two suns? According to NASA, over 80% of all solar systems have multiple suns and the historical accounts contained in The Kolbrin Bible, suggest it could be Sol's unborn twin. A destructive brown dwarf larger than the planet Jupiter, and known to the ancients as the Destroyer.

There are some audio links on the page...
Brown dwarves, Planet X, Nibiru, NASA, a twin sun, Mayan Prophecy and 2012... although the guy sounds a bit like Mister Rogers, this was an interesting listen.

EDITED: to correct the first audio link.

I'm a pretty avid tool fan and I agree with EW here about the musical references. 'quaint.wav' is 'The Patient', and 'p.wav' is either 'Parabol' or the chorus of 'Parabola'. The reference to the song 'Reflection' on the forum tells me that there are clues hidden in the songs.
It seems to me that the game is closely tied to the album Lateralus (my fav, BTW) and the literal interpretation of it's lyrics.

thefinaltest.exe is at a whole new level of enigmatic. I've tried everything I can think of on it's contents and got nothing. Looking at it in wordpad shows two distinct blocks of characters, which tells me that it was probably never meant to be run.

thefinaltest.exe is not an application of any type: it's a code. I can't quite get it yet, but it's clearly been run through some hex/dec/ascii converters. There's one character that stands out as a space, because it's repeated every few characters. The first stage isn't an ASCII shift, so I'm not sure what it is, but we may be able to bypass it by simply matching up patterns. Unfortunately, there are more than ten other characters, so it doesn't seem numeric...

Edit: By the way, it's not hex, either. I *think* the method of decoding is something like: shift->convert->convert.

After I re-read your post about it, AI, I took a closer look at 'fodder.gif'. It turns out that it IS an mp3. But after spending about 20 minutes fighting with it in audacity, I can't make the voice clear enough to be understood. The PMs usual tricks with his audio hints didn't work too well for me, though the last few words might have been 'ages ago'. Maybe a true audiophile will have better luck.

Poem on the front page changed from this morning. Added stanza.

Anyone know where the center of this map is?

Edit:
I may be going the totally wrong way, but thought I'd throw this up:

Loading Google Earth right now to see if I can find what's around here.[/img]

That about the area of Big Bend national park, but I don't think it really matters. That looks like a stock photo to me.

Here's my best guess as to the fodder.mp3, but please don't look until you've done your best yourself. We don't want to contaminate each others' minds with preconceived notions. So I put it in hex.

AI, I believe that's as right as we'll get until we see it in text. I think I was trying too many things at once earlier, because now I can more or less make it out. Still sounds a little garbled though.

PS: Kinda scary to see your RL name online, even if its attached to all of my outgoing email from work...

Probably more like: keep beating a dead horse. Smile
