Indian Lake Project Someone posted a few days ago about the Indian Lake Project blog. I don't remember who it was, but they didn't seem to know what to make of it.
I was just on that blog, and look what was posted today...
"I got an email yesterday from a gentleman who said he was from America's Research Gate (ARG). Has anyone ever heard of this before?"
The fact that "(ARG)" was mentioned has got me really curious as to what it may be all about. I put a link to the blog below. If it is not an ARG – it is really creepy if true.

Ooh, this one looks interesting enough for me to maybe dig out my old UF membership.

I've actually been reading this blog since the middle of last year, so it's really been going on that long. I used to think it was viral marketing, but it never went in that direction, so part of me thinks it might be legit.
Curious to see what all of you make of the site.
Oh, I think I may have been the one you mentioned who posted this. I brought it up on the Wyoming Incident board.

There is an update on the blog now that includes a possible connection to a band called The Cowsells.
Good stuff!

Before I got on emailing the guy, has anyone ever received any replies from his address? You mind posting those here if you have?

I just e-mailed the author about an hour ago. No rsponse as of yet -- it is a Friday night, after all.
Something about the underground pictures made me think of the "Doors To Hell" (or something like that -- doors that are portals to Hell?) sites.
If it's not an ARG, I don't know what to think. Some of the images definitely look altered (the "water damage" and the labelling of the children's pictures stick out most for me).

Cowsills Hey--
The Cowsills have a very tragic history of drug abuse, mental illness etc. etc. Barry Cowsill died in Hurricane Katrina, and Billy Cowsill died on the day of the memorial service for Barry.
The Cowsills were the inspiration for the Partridge Family.

It received a bloggy award on Valentine's Day.
One critic says this:
Quote:
Since most of the soldiers pictured are in uniform, they're wearing identifying markers to their unit origin and time period. However most are either too dark, or low quality in digital terms, whereas if you saw the pictures in hand, the markers would be alot easier to identify.
For example, in the picture with the female soldier, little kid and adult soldier- you can see the uniform markers of a medical officer and his rank on his left lapel is some lower officer. On the woman the sgt.'s chevron is on the sleeve and the pin of the WACS is on her left lapel, she's most likely his secretary, while his rank is unidentifiable because of the digital quality of the picture. With it there's the picture of her marrying some officer, which is interesting if she's a WACS sgt.
This pic is my favorite because when you look at it it's almost like you've seen it before:

looks sort of like Herman Goerring,(I thought it might have been Goerring meeting Mussolini in Munich, but there's really not enough information besides looking at their fat faces) with his driver standing to the rear. Either way these are european uniforms, they have the little belts across their chests, driver has his white color/black tie and the fatty on the right is wearing a beret.
This next picture is supposed to represent a military presence in Indian lake. These are certainly Americans, though it's likely that this picture wasn't taken in New York or North America.

Why? Because this is the symbol of the 2nd infantry division, or the 'Indian Head' division. It even has the colors of the infantry, white/silver above and red/reddish-brown below. There's absolutely no reason why this would be a sign in the town of Indian Lake.
I first thought Ft. Lewis Washington, but that's too recent; this picture was taken in either bavaria or korea. If the digital quality was better you'd make out the left arm-patch of the soldier on the right, there's a good chance it's an arrowhead with the indian head in the center.
There's a zillion pictures of soldiers from Ft. Drum units, if you had some black and white picture of some dudes with 10th mountain division patches stuff would be hitting in not only the right state, but the right continent.

Actually he addresses the indian head comments in his blog. He does a comparison and concludes they are not alike.

I found that blog in the wyoming incident thread, and was quite intrigued with it. i sent the guy an email a few days ago regarding the 8mm film reels, but no responce.i can post my email to him if you desire.
i too noticed the ARG reference, and was suspicious. the fact that this fellow who emailed about the "americas research gate" thing didn't respond is also a bit fishy.

Wow, I thought this was long gone when I last looked at it, and now there are suddenly updates!
The pictures are pretty clearly faked- it's particularly obvious with the "mugshots" of the kids, because their appearances and the film quality are anachronistic, but the damage is also inconsistent with the usual old photo damage. Still, an interesting set of stuff.

The thing that I can't figure out, though, is that I found this blog shortly after it started, which was wayyyyyy back in fall of 2005. I've been following it since then, thinking that eventually it would get to the point of being an ARG or viral marketing, and it never has! That's kind of a long time to carry on with this thing...especially when there isn't a lot of buzz about it on the internet. I've seen a thread posted about it here and there, but nothing big, and certainly no self-promotion.
So what the heck is it?

A work of internet fiction?
