It's a shame, really.

It was interesting, nice puzzles, quick updates, then all of a sudden nothing for a few days, then WHAM, game over.

But, I'm guessing life got in the way, it was a rookie PM, who will NEVER make this mistake again. NEVER.

Oh well, more time for other stuff. Hit the books Mr(s) PM, finish your scholastic obligations, and when you have the time we'll see about taking down VT.

Hint hint. Nudge Nudge. Kick! Ah well, it really was a good intro, I hope the pm gives it another go in the future.

Just gonna take this opportunity to shill - anyone that wants to get in at the beginning, give Split Earth a shot, my mind has melted with the last puzzle and the game's only at 26 hours so far.

Aw, I was looking forward to this one. It looked like there was going to be a lot to this world. Oh well.

Yeah, this has "beast" prints all over it. That one crashed and burned in a very novel way. He had a great story and potential for something really fun, but there was just no depth to the whole thing as it unfolded...or stagnated, really.

Working on the assumption that this is from the same PM as BBR, I would certainly not write the guy off. I thought he had some great ideas, and I really liked the storyline.

Actually April if this is the same person that created The Beast of Black River, I would completely and totally write him off for the disgustingly immature way that he ended BBR.

Sorry, there are certain respects that you pay to your players and to not fess up to mistakes and actually fake your death ... unforgivable in my eyes.

Just my 2 cents
Insanitarium

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. If I was at all invested in the game, I would have been pissed. I know I'm the minority in my point of view. If I was on the outside looking in (as were most experienced ARGers who took a pass on this early on), I would have been thoroughly annoyed, because, it really did look like a situation of an unprepared PM deciding he wasn't having fun anymore. Rolling Eyes At least, that was my take on it.

However, at the point we were at with this one, there were barely a handful of us left...4 maybe?...and it was pretty clear that we were all pretty much walking away from it. So, when it all came apart, I think most of us were thankful for the clean cut. As far as faking his death, the way it was portrayed made it obvious to the few still following along that it was still part of the ARG...the last chapter basically. Not the most conventional way to ax the thing, but oh well, it ended, right? Laughing

But all that aside, I think BBR was his first and last "strike"...at least as far as I'm concerned. If this one implodes in the same way, he'll have no credibility left. Not only will that keep people away from what ever looks like his doing, he will unfortunatly cause the same trouble for any other PM who may use similar story lines, writting styles, etc...which will be the real problem, imo.

'nuff said, I guess! Rolling Eyes

Whew, Where to start?

I can tell you all that this was NOT the same PM as BBR. It was a fairly new ARG player taking the giant leap into PMing and was not prepared for the time commitment involved with PMing.

The unfortunate part is that the young PM was warned repeatedly about being prepared & chose to ignore the instruction.

Hopefully this has been a hard learning lesson to the PM and he will continue to take the time to develop this story & learn about what it takes to be a successful PM through this forum and from other PMs and maybe one day, a year from now or so, he will re-launch the game and be able to run it through to completion.

Aw Red, you can't just put that out there!! lol!! Do tell!

But anyway, I really did think it was the same person...just "felt" the same, not to mention the similarities in plot, writing style, characters, etc.

Finally Got Email From Auntie

Quote:

Hello, player. I apologize for the way this game turned out, but I don't really care very much. It wasn't my game.

I was looking around unforums and I saw this trailhead, and it reminded me an awful lot of the Beast of Black River. This infuriated me -- Clark Christian was my best friend. To see someone steal his idea for a game this soon after his death made me very angry.

So I gamejacked.

The aunt, ilovechairs, etc. was all my creation. The only things to actually come from this PM were the original email, "The VT Chronicles", the Vetinol site that never went anywhere, and the emails from Vetinol Furniture. The rest was me.

Sorry.

Huh. So.

Yeah, I don't know what to say to that.

Auntie was the game jacker. this person also created the Save VT blog in the process of the game jack. Here is my conversation with the PM regarding this incident. The game is over, please, let it die quietly!

Quote:
Red: hay are you around?
Red: did you actually send out this email? http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=305795#305795
Red: And is the information in it true?
PM: I think so
PM: let me check though
Red: please do
PM: no
PM: I didnt
Red: was this a character in your game?
Red: that sent the emial?
PM: umm
PM: it was a game jacker
PM: I told you I had one
Red: look I really need to know the truth right now, I posted to let you off the hook from all the SPEC & then this shows up & makes me look like a fool - tell me the truth
Red: How could someone guess your login & passwords for the email accts?
PM: Its a little true and a little lie
PM: They made the extra email account, and the blog.
Red: what blog?
PM: SaveVt
Red: they who?
PM: The b***h that gamejacked me
Red: Save Vt was your game?
PM: Stop VT was my stuff
Red: my bad
PM: saveVT was hers
Red: did you know or have anything to do with the beast of black River game?
PM: Nope

Wasn't it decided that the PM of BBR didn't actually die? That makes the gamejacker's excuse senseless.

I think that the gamejacker's email was from the point of view of a character in BBR that was friends with the Clark Christian.

Either that or they're really still trying to convince us that the PM died. Rolling Eyes
