i think that we are part, but not all of subject180287. Could it be something that was put in motion at the time of Eva's birth, and has been growing and building itself, finally using and learning from us in order to become aware of itself. But thats just my opinion.

Curtain, what curtain? Spoiler.

Of course not. That's far too obvious. This is an ARG, man, think triangularly!

Hehe, still not convinced. Still telling you, its Eva. Her birthdate would have no other buissness as the codename of the subject.

Besides, if we were the subject - that world mean that we are the ones holding her prisoner.

[META/SPOILER] What's it all about?

There are several references to Patrick McGoohan's, "The Prisoner"; ranging from Eva's, "be seeing you" to wondering why (if?) Professor Wilson resigned.

Just as The Prisoner can be treated as an allegory - so can Meigeist. On one level, subject180287 can be seen as the Internet; the Military Legacy as the Arpanet from which the internet developed; KenKon as representing large multinationals with big financial backing (note the reference to its Keiretsu structure on its front page); with SRI, formerly a department of University of Life Studies West of England (UWE are an OOG partner), as academia with Psivolution as a spin-off company trying to fight KenKon for funding.

Where the over-riding theme for The Prisoner is about becoming a free-thinking individual; for Meigeist, it is about becoming something which is more than the sum of its parts. To misquote The Prisoner:

Quote:

Who is number One?

You are subject 180287.

One of the reasons The Prisoner is still discussed today is the ending. Number One wasn't revealed as an evil Leo McKern with his beard shaved off. In fact, as a spy story, the PM (Patrick McGoohan) revealed very little - which forced people to go back over the series and look at it on other levels. So, be prepared to never find out who or what Eva really is...

    What's that?
    It ended last week?
It wasn't like that at all...
    Oh, knickers.

I hate to admit this; I've never seen The Prisoner. I've heard about it a lot but never caught it anywhere. Guess I'm going to see if I can rent it somewhere.

Yeah! Great catch Tarim. In addition I'd like to nominate Keir as the IT support everyman and Pat and Dave the conspiracy mythologists (I kinda see P+D as the living embodiment of Usenet now)

All those groups benefitted directly from the growth of the net and all made some contribution to defining the types of uses that we have for it. And then of course there is us... the users, changing the structure as we add to it, creating new patterns as we go.

And the heart of the story, Eva, her growing but unpredictable power, the individual who can make the difference (so many arrows pointing to it now I'm thinking like this) Big Business, Government, Academia all competing to harness that power, make it work for them.

And at the other end of the spectrum, ordinary people with their own ideas about what the web could be, using it to spread bizarre theories and wild ideas, new communities taking their place in the e-consciousness, joining the dots, setting the internet free.

So according to Hazel and Jon, we're gonna win! Hurray!

Maybe in the ARGNetcast they'll own up to it all being a giant promo for Net Neutrality or something Razz
