I never got that message....but irrelevant now as page now shows:

Cleanup complete
No other traces of system intrusion remain.

It would seem that this was only available for 24 hours. The boat website is showing something more sensible now too.

Very Happy Yay! I found a cached screendump I took, attached.

Crying or Very sad Boo! If there was a puzzle there we didn't get to it in time then.

Might have just been up there so we'd know Baron was cheating? I was thinking maybe figuring out what the covered card was, but didn't get to play with it much.

When I login to the main boat site, before (when the Baron bit was still up), it had a table listed (324 or something like that) with what appeared to be some of you guys listed at the table and it said it was full. I think it had tesseract and redhatty at it. Now when I login, I see:
Welcome to the second feeder tournament!

Pick a table and get a-playin'! Only the two lucky souls with the most chips get to play with the big dogs for a chance at becoming Mayor of Parare!

Thanks to Vox Diaboli for their help. If you have any trouble, just pop back out here and let Conelrad know through the chat box below.

But there aren't any tables to pick or anything. Are any of you guys at tables you can play boat at? Or are you stuck tableless like me?

No tables for anyone until Tuesday, I think the site was just updated to confirm it had been tidied and evidence removed.

I think (IMHO) if there had been a puzzle there to crack they would have left it up for us longer, but maybe not.

So if that bit of code means all the chips will go to Baron, then the lucky chip doesn't matter anyway. If that's the case how do we beat the Baron?

I agree with Alisdair, it was meant to show us that there is some cheating via the software by Baron. I thought it might mean one of two things, either all the chips go to Baron, or that none of his chips go into the pot so that he can never lose chips only win.

I am not sure either how we are meant to beat that though.

Well done for the cached image!

I would guess at the first option, as on the second option there's a chance he would still lose overall. The code mentions "final pot" as well which makes me think all the winings will go to Baron...

Of course either way you would think people would notice, and either way I can't think how to beat it. I guess we have to wait until one of us is playing him and see if we can think of a way then.

Call me Capt. Obvious, but is there any reason we can't take what we've found to Ned?

I can only think of one, which is we currently know what Baron is up to, well kinda (I keep wanting to call him The Baron). If we tell Ned that may scupper his plans for now, but he'll come up with something else, and we won't know what it is.

Of course that only matters if we have a plan to stop him...

Well, we don't know of a way to thwart him with his current tactic, do we? If we turn it over, he may scramble and come up with something that we can combat? Might lead to more interaction with characters, as well.

Just a thought. Very Happy And I'm totally in support of calling him The Baron. Laughing

Conelrad is currently online over on the boat site, as well. Just FYI for anyone that might be around.

Edit:
I asked him when we could start playing and he said to refresh the page - there was an open table. Looks like we can start playing.

You did this already, right? I just talked to Conelrad about it, he was in the dark still, and suggested that you fill in Ned.

Well here's food for that thought... Ned has replied:
Quote:
Thanks for the heads-up.

I've looked through the code, and those lines don't seem to be there. If there was cheating going on, they're not doing it anymore. Still, I'll keep my eye on things. Thanks.

-Ned

FWIW I sent:
Quote:
Hello Ned

Sorry to be the bearer of some bad news, but I believe there is some fixing going on in the Tournament. The attached document shows some coding that appears to have been sneaked in the backdoor. I'm sorry I can't reveal my source just now, as a gentleman.

I reckon the cheats will have covered their traces well, still I hope you can find, and remove the relevant part of the code, and so
I'll leave it with you to deal with, as an honest man who honours the history of the event, but if I can be of any help, let me know.

Yours
Tesseract

I don't think he's in on it though, I think they have just buried the code deep so it will only come into play at the right time. In [TIAG] terms I guess we are supposed to come up with a way to beat The Baron afterall.

(oh wait now I've gone off The Baron as a name for him, as beat The Baron sounds like something else entirely.. Laughing )
